Good food and good service from Holly. Will be back again

Service was really bad. Staff member didn't crack a smile when taking our order, have they forgotten customer service?. We then waited over an hour for our food. No-one asked if we wanted another drink, just kept rushing by obviously under-stafffed. We saw food piling up on the counter, without being taken over to customers. Food finally arrived, the chicken was very dry and the chips hard, not a good start! Again, no-one asked if everything was okay. We ordered the two course meal, so then waited for our plates to be cleared to order the second course. No-one came!! I then alerted a member of staff waking past who ignored me twice! Finally ordered our desserts, which were actually nice!!
Not a good experience at all, would not recommend.

Lunched in Lytham St Annes on Tuesday. Felt they were understaffed for the number of customers, but very disappointed with the food. The three of us ordered the rump steak. The medium rare was medium and the medium too cooked. The onion rings and fries were somewhat overcooked too. Not what we expect from a place we frequent regularly.

Ego Gravesend (The Copperfield) - Saturday 29/08/2026
Booked a table for 4 people 8:30pm. Arrived the person behind the bar rang a bell (presumably to let the waiting staff know someone was waiting to be booked in) waited about 10 mins for someone to turn up, shown to our table. There was a table of 10 people there but other than that quite a few empty tables. A waitress came over and asked what we wanted to drink, we ordered a Guinness, a Lime Soda & a jug of Sangria Rose - first issue, the pumps weren't working so we couldn't have the Guinness and no Soda or Lemonade for our Sangria! The waitress said they had 7 Up which we said we would have for the Sangria, had a beer instead of the Guinness and a tonic to go with the lime. Chose our food, 3 starters arrived, ah the waitress (who we think was either a shift leader or manager as she wasn't in uniform) had cancelled one of the starters so we had to wait for that to arrive. It arrived and she said she would take the cost off the bill. Main courses arrived, Chicken Kebabs with Greek Salad, really nice, pizza good, Mixta Paella, ok but looked as though it might have been warmed up as it seemed to have lumpy bits that were quite dry. Ordered 1 dessert, 1 floater coffee, 1 Americano & 1 liqueur coffee with the mini dessert - Americano arrived, dessert arrived, floater coffee arrived, min dessert arrived, after about 15 mins one of our party went and asked about liqueur coffee - oh, they forgot, our party member actually brought it back! Waitress came over when she saw we had finished our coffee's starter clearing the cups etc., then came back with the bill, we said we have a voucher she then said 'we don't take vouchers on Saturday!' which we thought her tone was a bit rude, we explained that the voucher we have can be used every day except Christmas day, she seemed to reluctantly take the voucher and came back with a new bill except the starter hadn't been taken off, eventually the bill was correct. It was now about 10:15 but staff seemed rushed and just wanted people out and definitely not a good dining experience. I've been to Ego a few times, food ok and usually most of the staff ok but this time forget it!!

Do not visit this restaurant. We visited ego kingsclere on Friday, a party of 6. The service was extremely slow as they told us they were short of chefs. Turned out only 1 of 3 chefs and an untrained deputy manager where cooking. One of the party was ill from the meal. 3 meals over cooked and I was offered lamb that they had taken out of the freezer the night before. I won’t be visiting again.

I went for a meal on Saturday with my friend where we took advantage of the 3 course meal. We asked about what choices would suit our appetite. Dominic was very helpful and informative. He gave some great recommendations. We had lovely food and thought it was really good value for money. I could highly recommend. Service was really good as we took our time as we booked later on but didn’t feel rushed at all.

Huge fan of Ego here! Very shocked to read all of these negative reviews, as our local Ego (Hollybush at Stockton Brook) is absolutely amazing! My partner and I had our first date here 4 years ago, and we've become firm regulars, visiting every 1-2 months for a 'date night'. The food is gorgeous, the cocktails are to die for, the staff are so lovely and welcoming, the service is impeccable!! Current favourites are the Lemon Drop Martini, and the Baked Feta starter. Would give our local Ego 10 stars for every visit! The decor and setting is perfect, giving Mediterranean holiday vibes, especially sat outside in the courtyard on a Summer's Day! Great value for money, as there's usually an offer to take advantage of! A massive thank you to our local Ego for being such an amazing restaurant, all the staff there work so hard! Thank you to our lovely waitress last night, Charlotte, for being so attentive, where we enjoyed yet another fabulous date night!

Lichfield.
Waited an hour before starter order taken, cursory apology.
Calamari ok, kebabs overcooked.
Main Cod supreme, mussels were slimy and grey, hardly any sauce, potatoes also grey and tasteless.
Duo of pork, belly pork just about edible unlike the rest of the main.
No sweet because the excessive wait for our meal meant there wasn't time because of a prior engagement.
I asked but the birthday voucher could not be used even though another table had booked the wrong food and their voucher was honoured.
Will not be returning.
If I develop botulism from this meal I will update my review.
Botulism Risk
The bacteria: Clostridium botulinum thrives in oxygen-free environments.The risk: While rare for raw or fresh fish/shellfish, the toxin can form if cooked mussels are stored improperly.

Booked dinner with ten friends at the Ego (It used to be the Copperfield pub) restaurant in Gravesend. The service was appalling due to the lack of staff. We waited an hour for our meals and only nine starters arrived. The tenth starter was eventually served after another twenty minutes. The food was OK 3/4,stars and we were given a free bootle of wine but the service really was appalling.

The food and visit were fine, but the checkout process felt a bit uncomfortable. The server manually added a 15% tip to the card machine before handing it over, whilst also informing me I didnt need to pay it which created an awkward and high-pressure situation. Tipping should feel entirely optional rather than put on the spot by staff. I hope management can look into this practice, as it put a bit of a dampener on the end of the meal. I let it go but will not feel obliged in the future. I take responsibility for that part.

Visited the Deben Seal in Woodbridge, lovely outside space, fantastic menu options, really good price, food was delicious and service was outstanding, especially from Michael. I really recommend this restaurant.

Very disappointed on this visit to the Fox Cub at Little Hoole near Preston. We prebooked for 6.30pm and the restaurant was quite and there seemed to be ample staff. Our order was taken and arrived in a reasonable time. Our waitress was very polite. The starter for my wife, a vegetarian, tomato soup was good. Mine was garlic mushrooms which did not taste much of garlic but more some kind of herb which was not very nice. The dish presentation was poor and uninviting. Our main course was the gnocchi for my wife. It was too hot on the spice and to be quite honest looked very stodgy. I had the king prawn linguine which was served with a clump of rocket leaves over the top. Would have been far better with a sprinkle of parmesan. Again the dish was over spiced .
Madri Lager nearly £6 a pint and a large Cabernet Sauvignon New Zealand nearly £13
Service was a bit slow and others in the restaurant seemed to be of the same opinion. A lady on the adjoining table sent her meal back and declined an alternative.
Not the usual standard I have recently had at Ego.

The food was good, but the service provided by the staff was the highlight of our visit. The two young ladies who were assigned to our table were excellent,
They were polite, attentive and very personable, one of whom was only her second shift. It makes such a difference, continue your good work girls, you will go far!

As a frequent customer of Ego, I feel the need to write this review after attending today. I have bigged this place up to my two friends who were keen to give it a try so we booked today for 11am. We were the only ones in there for at least an hour. The waitress put us in a dark corner and we asked politely to move to a sunnier spot, she said we would need to be ‘told’ where to sit as there were reservations already in place. Still, there were no more customers until at least 12.30 on the other 6 surrounding tables. Our order took ages to arrive, the starters were nice as usual then there was approx a 30 minute gap whilst we waited on our medium rare steak and two mixed kebab mains.. (still no other customers at this point). My friends steak arrived and was overcooked, she sent it straight back. Our kebabs came and were lukewarm, the wrap was rock hard, toasted too long and would only ‘snap’ rather than roll when wanting to put your chunks of very overdone meat in there. Our friend steak came back around 10 minutes after returning it, again, overdone ! This time she didn’t bother sending it back but instead ate a small piece and asked for the rest to be put in a box to take home for the dog. Her fries were also just warm. She didnt eat the onion rings so all in all, her meal was a total waste of money. She had ordered a chocolate brownie dessert which didnt arrive after another 30 minutes, we asked twice for it.. it eventually arrived. I was so embarrassed by the entire experience and had to apologise to my friends for bringing them here for our very rare get together. As I say, I come to Ego often with work colleagues and friends but never have I experienced such poor food as we did today. One of the staff members apologised profusely as we asked to speak to a manager. Our bill was reduced after us complaining but the attitude of the manager was non apologetic and we left feeling quite disgruntled and not wanting to return. All in all not great experience so Im giving it 2 star rating as the coffee was nice (even though they were out of sweetener and brown sugar!)… not good Ego.

We booked Ego at Wyke Lion for a family birthday meal. After reading some reviews we were a bit apprehensive. So glad we ignored the negatives. We all had fantastic meals. Plenty of choice for all. The service was great and we will definitely return in the future.

Nice food but the mini dessert with liqueur coffee was terrible. Weak coffee, tiny amount of liqueur couldn’t taste, mini crumble no ice cream or custard.

Ego Kingsclere. Waiters were lovely and helpful, service was fairly quick. The food was atrocious. I had a rump steak that was really stringy and constantly getting stuck in my teeth. I would have had a sirloin but they were sold out. My onion rings were soggy and tasted raw, chips were nice though. My fiancé had a cod supreme and mussels which were most likely undercooked as she has spent the whole evening since getting home on the toilet with a burning ring of fire and very upset stomach. Never returning.

This was a disappointing experience, particularly given how much advance planning was required.

We booked a table for 15 for a Sunday birthday lunch and were required to pre-order all meals via the app.

One guest is pescetarian with a hazelnut allergy, but the only vegetarian/vegan Sunday option was a nut roast containing hazelnuts. No alternative vegetarian roast or substitution was available. We were advised to order from the main menu instead, which was fine, but it meant paying significantly more than everyone else having the roast offer. The app also repeatedly applied the Sunday set price incorrectly, charging £22.95 for a dessert.

Between phone calls, emails and app issues, over an hour was spent trying to order this one meal, and the organiser (the birthday guest) spent over three hours finalising the group booking. In the end, the restaurant agreed the guest could bring their own pre-cooked vegetarian sausages, while still paying the full set price.

On the day, despite all meals being pre-ordered, main courses were served around an hour after arrival.

A menu change (with no notification) meant another guest with a garlic allergy had to change their order at the table, and was unable to have the roast potatoes due to garlic seasoning. We acknowledge that a garlic allergy is rare but despite it being noted on the booking, the garlic seasoning on the roast potatoes hadn’t been mentioned previously.

After lunch, we were told the coffee order would be taken after dessert, but were then asked to vacate the table before this could happen. The table had originally been booked from 12–3pm, but less than 24 hours before the booking an email changed this to 12–2:30pm.

I spoke to the manager on the day, who listened and apologised, acknowledging that several aspects of the experience fell short and could have been handled differently. However, given the impact on what should have felt like a special occasion, we were surprised that no gesture or adjustment was offered to reflect the experience.

Staff were friendly and polite, the atmosphere was lovely, and the sparklers on my sister's dessert were a thoughtful touch – thank you. But the experience felt unnecessarily time-consuming and disorganised. We had expected clearer communication and a smoother experience on the day.

We’ve had excellent meals at Ego Penhow in the past, which made this visit particularly disappointing. I hope this feedback helps improve the experience for future group bookings.

Staff were nice, food was not very good. Prices too high and I was annoyed that the company had put a £20 tip on the bill! I would not go there again.
