Guide to Faroe Islands Reviews 

The Faroe Islands is an astounding place to visit. The Lake Sørvágsvatn hike is one of the best hikes in the world, for sure... do not miss it. The fee to do the hike is high - but just pay it and don't get mad. For us, it was muddy and near the end quite challenging. But I was struggling with a foot problem and was still able to do it.

This is a self-drive tour, so you are responsible to set your itinerary. Just driving around to the different villages is completely entertaining. The tunnels are an experience not to be missed. Remember that the weather is changeable. We went in late September and knew we could have bad weather. We added an extra day to accommodate for this. We had one day of astoundingly great weather - when we did the Lake Sørvágsvatn hike. Our flight in was diverted to Copenhagen so we lost a half day there, and one other day rained solidly for most of the day. But we still did everything except the boat tour. Even with this weather, the islands are wonderful.

Restaurants are extremely expensive. They may have limited hours or require reservations. This dissuaded us from eating out - which works for us. There are essentially no tourist shops anywhere. You might find a T-shirt, magnet, or postcard. The primary shopping is yarn, sewing equipment, and wool sweaters/attire.

Hogni is extremely responsive and will respond to you at any time... for example, when we were diverted to Copenhagen late in the evening and had to make him aware that we would be a day late. He arranged everything for us so all we had to focus on was what we wanted to see. If you don't want to do the research for a car, boat tour, or hotel yourself - trust him. He knows.

This is a bucket list destination - do it before it becomes over-touristed. At the moment most villages have a clean, well-stocked, WC with a flush toilet and sometimes they are even heated. Too many disrespectful tourists will change that.

website is easy to navigate, staff are friendly and responds quickly. very convenient for us to book all of our Faroese excursions (all kinds provided, from concerts to horse riding to hiking) on the site, would definitely recommend.

The tour of Kalsoy island was a highlight of our trip to the Faroe Islands. Our local guide was excellent, and gave us lots of Faroe Islands trivia in addition to the relevant tour info. The hike is very doable with amazing views. Would recommend this tour to anyone visiting the Faroe Islands! Although technically it is possible to do it yourself, the roads and tunnels are all one lane, and the context from the guide is worth it.

A wonderful tour of the Faroe Islands with my host and guide, Elsa Maria. She was an excellent host, who was truly knowledgeable about the places we visited, and the history of the Islands. She added a good sense of humour to the tour (“including a tongue in cheek” test on how good a student I was… the answer was 1973)! Ten out of ten for the tour and I would defiantly recommend this tour to visitors to the Islands.

The details sent via email before my arrival in the Faroe Islands were incredibly helpful. The guides were super friendly and eager to share their local knowledge. Also, the 5-day tour is an excellent choice for first-time visitors.

I had the Top-rated Faroe Islands Highlights Tour on the 28th of April with Tummas. He is a very good and knowledgable guide, he took to amazing, carte postale like places and explained the history behind each monument. He also gave us information about the Faroese nature, the modern life on the islands and advices on local culinary places. Totally reccomended!

This tour was one of my favorite tours ever and I have been to 140 countries so far. Elsa Maria made it so special with her commentary, her willingness to take our photos (and they came out so beautifully!), her restaurant choice, just everything. It's very obvious she cares about the Faroese culture and animals. She even stopped to help a Faroese horse get untangled from a broken fence line. This is a great day trip to get a sense of the Faroe Islands. Wish we could've spent more time and gone on more tours. There is no place on earth like the Faroe Islands.

A great tour held by Elsa Maria. It was both informative and inspiring as well as beautiful and fun, all with a personal touch.

We had the opportunity to experience an amazing 7-hour tour around the Faroe Islands. A perfect tour for anyone who wants to see and experience a lot in a single day. Our guide, Hans, was very friendly and attentive. As a bonus, the weather was great, all day. We can truly recommend this tour.

It was a fantastic excursion with unforgettable panoramic views and hearing stories about the locals. The waterfalls were magnificent and so were the snow-capped mountains. This excursion is worth trying as long as you are in a good mood to experience an adventure.

Anita and Tummas of Heimdal Tours are the best. I had three fantastic days with them, visiting and hiking to some of the most spectacularly beautiful scenery I have seen. They were punctual and, especially, patient as I peppered them with one question after another about life on the Faroe Islands. They even provided really tasty lunches. I cannot recommend them or the itinerary more highly. I hope to return and explore more islands with them.

I took the tour called Top-rated Faroe Islands Highlights Tour on August 25th, and I only have positive reviews to give. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and kind, and she could answer all the questions me and the other tour participants had.
The tour covers the major must-see places in the Faroe Islands, and the tour guide also took us to places which were not really included in the tour.
It also helped that we us a group really enjoyed each other's company, even though we did not know each other and came from different parts of the world.
Not only did I see the most beautiful places and enjoyed breathtaking sceneries, I also learned a lot from the tour guide about the Faroese people and their way of living. I truly can recommend this tour.

If you like rough nature, just visit the Faroe Islands.
