Second time I've used this company in recent years. Excellent service again. Courier delivery and collection went entirely to schedule, as did deposit refund. Gear is well packaged with all necessary return ties and labels. Would have no hesitation to recommend.

Hiring a Canon 600mm lens, I bought the required insurance as well as provided a £2,000 deposit. The lens' hood clip was detached from the camera on arrival to my home and foolishly I repositioned it, although it was clearly a defect. I barely used the lens as the wildlife I intended to photograph were not present at my destination. I returned the lens only to get an email from Hireacamera that the primary glass had been scratched by my use. The photo provided showed a shallow, repetitive scratch mark appearing to be the result of extended rubbing contact with a hard object -- not unlike the metal clip that had come loose on the initial delivery to me. When I explained this, while admitting that yes, the clip was a known defect, they didn't want to consider the possibility that the damage could have been caused during the return shipment after I completed my use of the lens. Now, after agreeing to pay the insurance deductible amount, I am still being denied return of the balance of my £2,000 deposit for one month and no sign of when it will be paid. AND YET, HIreacamera will be fully reimbursed for "lost sales" as thought the lens had been rented during the entire repair period.
I have used them in the past with no problems, but the real test of a company is when things go wrong. They have not handled this well and if it goes on much longer I fear the insurance company will also pull out as they have provided incomplete pricing on my claim. that is the only reason I can see for them keeping my deposit when everything has been confirmed.

We apologise that we haven't been able to resolve the issue surrounding your Canon 600mm lens rental and the return of your deposit more quickly. We understand this delay is frustrating, and we want to provide a clear update on the situation.
As previously communicated, the primary reason for the ongoing delay is the necessary specialist repair of the primary element, which is being handled directly by Canon. Due to the intricate nature of this repair and their stringent quality control processes, the timeline for completion is unfortunately outside of our immediate control.
We appreciate your continued concern regarding the extended timeframe and any potential impact this may have on your insurance claim. Please be assured we are actively pursuing updates from Canon on a regular basis - our last update from Canon we shared with you was on 04/05/25. We remain committed to keeping you informed the moment we receive any news regarding the completion of the repair and the subsequent return of the remaining balance of your deposit.
The possibility of damage occurring during return shipment was carefully considered. However, based on the characteristics of the scratch, it was determined to be the result of a different type of contact than what would typically be associated with a loose lens hood clip. Furthermore, no foreign material was found within the hood, sleeve, or case that could account for the damage.
For clarity, the lens hood was provided in full working order, consistent with the manufacturer's original specifications. The previous mention of a "defect" was used to acknowledge your reference of the clip being loose upon initial receipt.
As is standard industry practice with insurance claims, we hold the deposit as the insurer will reimburse you directly for the repair costs. We want to assure you that we are committed to a fair resolution and are actively working to bring this to a swift conclusion. We will be in direct contact with you to finalise the matter.

Great and easy to use service
Great and easy to use service. Advice readily given over the phone prior to booking online which was extremely helpful and courier additional service for drop off and pick up very efficient. Will definitely use again. Hireacamera was recommended to me and I’ll now pass the recommendation on. I borrowed a zoom lens for gorilla trekking in Uganda and had I not my photos just wouldn’t be the same! Thank you.
