⭐ 1 star – Extremely disappointing customer service and unresolved £600 fridge failure

I purchased a fridge from Jacksons Leisure Supplies around five months ago for approximately £600, specifically for use in my campervan and for an important trip I had planned.

The listing stated that the compressor could be fitted “at the side of the fridge”. There was nothing in the listing to explain that the compressor had to be mounted in a particular orientation, that the mounting plate had to be positioned in a specific way, or that installation needed to be carried out by a professional.

There was also no compressor measurement information in the listing. I contacted Jacksons about this because I needed to know whether the compressor would fit in the space I had available. They offered me the opportunity to return the fridge. However, because I had an important trip coming up and had specifically purchased the fridge for that trip, I explained that I would make it work and proceeded with the installation.

The fridge initially worked and continued working for several months.

Then, while I was away in my campervan for a week, the fridge stopped working.

I contacted Jacksons and was told that the problem was my fault because I had mounted the compressor on its side. This was the first time I had been told that the compressor had to be mounted in a particular orientation. I was subsequently told that it should have been installed by a professional.

My issue is that none of this information was clearly stated in the product description when I purchased the fridge. I was not provided with clear installation instructions explaining that mounting the compressor in that orientation could cause irreversible damage. Only after the fridge failed was I shown information from what appears to be a manufacturer’s booklet explaining how it should be installed.

I have spent months trying to resolve this with Jacksons. Despite the fridge costing approximately £600 and failing after only a few months, they have refused to accept responsibility or offer me a replacement or refund.

Eventually, Jacksons arranged for the manufacturer’s sister company to inspect the fridge. I have now been told that the compressor contains oil, that the fridge is apparently unrepairable, and that my options are for them to send the broken fridge back to me or dispose of it.

I have asked them for the inspection findings and an explanation of why the fridge is supposedly unrepairable, including why the compressor cannot simply be replaced. I am also seeking clarification as to where, before purchase, I was informed that the compressor had to be mounted in a particular orientation and that professional installation was required.

The impact this has had on me has gone far beyond simply losing the use of a fridge. Because this dispute has been going on for months and Jacksons have refused to resolve the matter, I have had to miss three long trips that I had planned in my campervan. A small cool box simply isn’t a realistic alternative for the length of trips I had planned. I would also have had to spend even more money on purchasing a suitable high-quality cool box simply to be able to continue travelling.

I bought this fridge specifically so that I could use my campervan for these trips, so it has been extremely frustrating to have the van sitting unused for journeys I had planned while I continue going back and forth with the company trying to resolve what should have been a straightforward issue.

I am extremely disappointed with the customer service throughout this process. In my experience, the company has focused on blaming me for the installation rather than acknowledging that the relevant installation requirements were not made clear in the original product listing.

I am now having to consider taking the matter further and pursuing my statutory rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015. I paid nearly £600 for a fridge which has failed after only a few months, and I do not believe it is unreasonable to expect clear and adequate installation information to have been provided at the time of purchase.

What makes the situation even more frustrating is that the same fridge is now being advertised by the company on eBay at a price of over £1,500.

I would strongly recommend that anyone considering purchasing this product from Jacksons Leisure Supplies makes absolutely sure that they obtain full written installation instructions, compressor dimensions and confirmation of the required compressor orientation before purchasing or installing it.

My experience has been extremely disappointing, particularly the way the complaint has been handled and the lack of willingness to take responsibility for information that was not made clear in the original listing.

Happy with service, quick delivery and good customer service. Manufacturing issue with product resolved quickly and replacement sent to me quickly.

Ordered on line on Sunday and it’s arrived this morning (Tuesday). Well packaged and prompt delivery and a decent price.

Well.. where do I begin, firstly, if you expect your parcels to be delivered on time, then Jackson's Leisure isn't for you, 2/3 day shipping turned into nearly 2 weeks, so don't plan to have anything fitted as it will not happen, also, they lie and lie about it's been shipped, it's not shipped, DX has your order I'll chase them, the many excuses I've had chasing this F45s awning that I had scheduled to have fitted. This company is a waste of time, if you value your time and money, I highly recommend going elsewhere, just have a read of all the reviews, I should of done and regret not doing it..One star, you don't deserve that! beware! There we have it folks, they answer with an isolated incident, really! Read the reviews to get the bigger picture, of what this company is really all about, shocking!
