Very helpful with urgent problem!

EDIT: Wrong business...
This review was meant to be for mac-repairs.co.uk, 20 Crimscott Street, London, SE1 5TF (who trade as various companies, including Retro Tech Ltd and London Laptops).
NOT for macrepairs-uk.co.uk (which seems to be a nationwide business)

My external hard drive had stopped working (old style with spinning disk). I suspected (and hoped) it was the enclosure at fault.

Wendy and Tony could not have been more helpful. We tested the drive itself using their SATA-USB connector, and hence proved that my enclosure was indeed the problem.
I bought a replacement nearby, and all is working well.

As a result, I was able to use it to prepare and submit a document a few hours later before the deadline.

Absolute Scam

Absolute Scam - wish there was an option for zero stars.
I don’t generally like to leave bad reviews, but this is the exception to the rule. I wanted my laptop repaired after water spilled on it and it stopped working. Did a google search and found this website mac-book-repairs.co.uk. It seemed like a legitimate company and promised a free, same day assessment, be kept up to date, no hidden fees and no obligation with free return. I sent my laptop off to Gtec on 6 June 2019 and like others have said, I did not receive any acknowledgment from Gtec. I called a week later – no one answers the phone. I eventually got through by searching for an alternative number on the web and was greeted by a very rude and arrogant chap on the other line. He didn’t care to apologise and said he had lots of other laptops to repair and he would get to it as soon as possible. I went away for a small break and when I returned, I tried calling again but no one answers the phone. I then received an email on 21 June 2019 asking for asking for an assessment form, which I had already included when I sent the laptop at the beginning of June. I emailed the intake form again on 24 June 2019 and waited. A week later I received a quote saying that my macbook logic board has been affected by the liquid spill and will need to be cleaned through their ultrasonic cleaning process, which would cost £79.99. They added that this may not be the only thing that needed repair, but without this they could not proceed any further. I initially agreed, but told them that I wanted my laptop back. They refused unless I paid a cancellation charge of £84.00 plus I had to pay for my own delivery. I tried to reason with them, but unfortunately I wasn’t getting anywhere. After paying I received my laptop back on 19 July 2019 (untouched) and scammed of almost £100. Shame on you Gary Liddell and Gtec. I will be taking legal advice.

Avoid like the plague

I sent my laptop off to Gtec and it was signed as received by Gary Liddell on 2 May. I received no acknowledgment from Gtec and a week later I phoned and left a message (no one every answers the phone number given). I received a message from Gary later to say they (probably just him) were on holiday. ??
Then I had to communicate with him through a silly ticket system (it avoids direct conversation). When I questioned on the 15th May how long it takes to clean the board, I got a message on the 20th saying the office was closed for a bereavement.
Then on the 24th, 3 weeks after I had sent the Mac, I was told that it had been cleaned but it needed some board repairs. By return, I said go ahead. I got a reply 4 days later (May 28) saying it was being sent to “our” board specialist. Since then nothing despite phone calls and messages. I don’t know where my computer is now and Gary Liddell can’t be bothered to answer. A

Scam - they push you to cancel - keep the laptop for months and don't repair it

Short story: Worst customer service I've ever experienced. They kept it for more than 3 months and they didn't even repair it, they just sent back the computer without reconnecting anything inside. Very dodgy terms and conditions, they push you to cancel so you pay the cancellation fee.

Long story: Took 1 month to get an assessment, not 3-5 days like the website suggests. Cost was fairly high, 390 for a liquid damage, which I realised later is excluding any VAT. Customer service would not reply to my attempts to know how this price is broken down, if they were going to replace anything and more importantly how long it would take. After another month I gave up and agreed to proceed. 2 weeks later, I apparently made the mistake of asking very plainly how much longer it would take, and I had the rudest answer ever. The guy kept on sending more messages (on his own) to try and frustrate me so I cancel and pay a 90 pound excl. VAT cancellation fee. Completely delusional. Apparently a customer is supposed to wait for ever without any update, because he's not the only customer in the world, I apparently have an attitude because I ask how long it would take to repair, I was clearly told I should not contact them unless they talk to me and I should be ready to pay ASAP as soon as it is done. I clearly didn't want to play their game so I gave no reply.

In the end, I asked again after 2 weeks and they replied that they simply couldn't repair it, blaming the previous repairer for the damage done to the motherboard. It may be important to point out that there had been no other repairer. After 1 week, I had to chase them up again since I had not received anything and they finally sent it. 1 week later again, I now got it back and they literally sent a bag with all the internal screws. Do I need to confirm that nothing has been done to the liquid damage and all the parts are unplugged? Although their website is filled with 5 star testimonials, it is clearly fake and it is not difficult to find that there are many other reviewing websites with many other customers going through the same experience that I had. They apparently change their branding and domain since the website I went to is again different from the previous ones other users mentioned, but it's definitely the same since they only do the job half way and forget to change it all the way.

Overall, this company is clearly a scam designed to make you cancel so you pay the cancellation fees. BTW it turns out the only payment method is a wire transfer, meaning you won't be able to charge back they've covered that bit.

Just in case you feel like reading the type of messages you may receive if you ask them how long it would take to repair the laptop:

'You really do need to adjust your attitude sir otherwise we may end up cancelling it for you with that attitude. Please be mindful of your time and of hiding behind a keyboard- if you wouldn’t say it to somebody’s face then I suggest you shouldn’t type it. And just so you are aware you aren’t our only customer and we haven’t sat around for the last couple of months hoping and praying that you will give us some work - thank you. Unless you have an attitude change then please desist from contacting me again until I tell you that your invoice is due and I will expect immediate payment due to your rude attitude - thank you'

This is just ONE of the messages they sent after I asked this:

'Hi,
My question remains unanswered. What is the eta? Your website claims you carry out repairs in 3-5 days. I sent the laptop in december and already asked at that time what the actual eta was but did not get an answer.
Also, what work has been done so far? I didn't really get a breakdown in the first place although i also asked for it.'

Rude Owner - Possible scam

Very rude owner. Doesn't seem to have any specialist knowledge/training.

Have noticed the company changes its name on a regular basis. Looks like some kind of scam. Over the past year it's operated under the below names:

SCAM COMPANY

SCAM COMPANY - DO NOT USE

I am £430 pounds out of pocket after using this company.

After an unfortunate incident where I spilt coffee over my MacBook I chose to send it to this company.

This company claimed to have done a 3 day 'UltraSonic Clean' and a repair to the Logic board of my computer. However on receipt of my MacBook Pro it would not even let me log in.

Not only this but there is still coffee all over the vents and a strong smell of coffee when opening the box with the returned computer.

I have now taken it to a more reputable company for repair, this company opened the case in front of me where it became clear that no work had been carried out as can be seen by the pet hairs and general dust and dirt inside the computer as well as the coffee and dirt marks still inside.

I will now be proceeding down the legal route to get my money back in full.

Spoke to G-MAC on the phone and they were just extremely rude and told me that the fact another company had now opened the back of the laptop voids any warranty that they offer.

Total scammers and avoid like the plague!

Hard Disk Damaged by GTEC

As with other customers my MacBook Pro was returned in a worse state than it was sent in! Returned with a corrupted hard disk that Apple Mac themselves could not fix over the phone. I now have to take it to them for a repair. Be very wary... A very bad experience.

Your device wasn't even turned on or removed from the box mr clark as all I needed to do was describe your fault to the engineer and he knew what the fault was that would be causing your problem - you declined our quote so it was simply sent straight back - but thank you for blaming us anyway

Fraudulent company

Fraudulent company. Gary Liddell is a con-artist, I suspect he has no actual training or specialist knowledge. Was unable to repair laptop in a timely fashion and grew angry when enquiries were made as to why the process was taking so long.

He sent a tirade of abusive emails and phonecalls, said he wasn't going to repair the laptop anymore, however refused to return it unless the invoice was paid in full.

Obviously trading standards have been contacted, apparently he is "known to them." Be warned and stay well away.

Further to the above, got a notification that my review has received a reply and can see that the company seems to pretend that all the bad reviews on Trustpilot over the years are from the same person. Absolutely pathetic and an example of the poor attitude I received.

Outstanding Repair Company

I contacted Gtec after Apple Support advised me that my Apple Mac was no longer supported by them - due to age! It was a huge relief to speak to a company with knowledge and professionalism, speaking my language and not confusing me with technical babble. The computer was repaired and returned to me swiftly. Unfortunately during transit the computer was damaged. On contacting Gtec they requested the return of the computer for the transit damage to be made good at no cost to myself. Summing up contact with Gtec, the repair, keeping me informed and the professional but friendly approach is highly commendable and I can not recommend Gtec highly enough. This exceptional service would be my first port of call in the event of IT issues. Special mention to Gary - thank you very much. Up and working like new.

GTEC

I chose GTEC because they were the only company to reply immediately, on a Sunday. The wrapping and sending of my computer was traumatic, but the company reassured me by phone and their own messaging system. The repair took much longer than i expected, but as they pointed out to me, I wasn't the only customer! Now that I have it back, in a new expensive box, I am glad. It works. Thats the plan!

Excellent company - your apple product is safe in their hands

Went to Gary and his team with a water damaged MacBook Pro. Was given a no nonsense free assessment and was helped greatly by Gary's down to earth explanations of the various options available to me. Ended up choosing to replace the whole motherboard which was done very quickly and for a very reasonable price. There were other complications with my MacBook which Gary was happy to listen to and give advice about. My MacBook is now working better than it ever has before and has been given a whole new lease of life.
