Staff customer service very uncomfortable experience

An item bought in August as a gift lasted 31 days before it broke. The company had been contacted about replacing it and agreed if the item was taken back to the store. However on returning it yesterday before the assistant even looked at the item said I needed to provide screenshot evidence of the email trail confirming it would be replaced when the screenshot didn’t have the email address on I had to produce another screen shot. Eventually he did change the item but customer service shocking. I reported and had a response to say they were sorry and that they would offer me 10% off my next purchase, if I informed them of my visit in advance they would ensure I was greeted by the store manager who would assist me directly. However the damage is already done, I was made to feel very uncomfortable by the person who served me and with paying £200 for a very small product would expect it to last longer than a month so clearly their products are substandard and I won’t be purchasing any of their products in the future.

Liars, scammers, incompetent at piercing

Liars, scammers, incompetent at their roles! I ordered the tassel threaded bar which cost almost £1k, online and travelled to the London Maria Tash studio to get my ear pierced with it (4 hour drive) I ordered my jewelry because whenever I travel to the studio they never have the jewelry I want in stock. I asked for a high conch. The piercer took my jewelry to sterilise and took me into the room to be pierced. He made the placement with the sharpie and asked me to check if I was happy with the placement. I said no because I wanted it higher. He seemed flustered and said 'I suppose I best get the jewelry first. He collected it from sterilisation and just went ahead and pierced my ear in the original placement I said wasn't happy with! My piercing is too low and never healed

Also I didn't realise they sent me the wrong jewelry orientation. they sent me the bar for the left ear which I didn't realise until looking in the mirror afterwards. I raised this with the online customer service, where they have LIED to me stating they have sent the correct one, which they haven't and the description of the jewelry on their website confirms they have sent the incorrect one. One of the customer service team even lied about which ear I got pierced stating I got my left ear when it is clear on my account that it is the right because they have to log everything and they even take a picture after you get pierced!

My piercing never healed probably due to the awkward placement I seems clear the piercer wasn't properly trained or maybe I was his first practice customer, and I am now left with piercing bumps either side of my piercing and a wrong jewelry bar which doesn't sit well in my ear and hangs out partially. Customer service team abysmal Spoke to Gloria and Shivani who both lied to me and did nothing to rectify the situation. Didn't even get and apology or even offer a re-piercing of the opposite ear seeing as they sent the jewelry for it! Their piercers and people who send out the jewelry need training. Don't waste your money on this brand.

I have another bad experience with this company which I'll list in a separate review

Expensive earrings fall out

I treated myself to a £1800 stud after getting a new job. I has the stud fitted by MARIA TASH at Liberty, and shortened three months later, as per instructions. I had not removed the stud myself.

I was extremely upset to find it had disappeared one day. I found the backing, but the stud itself was never found.

Customer services tried to imply that their advice is to regularly check the earring is tight: this quite simply never happened. I have also looked through the paperwork I was given, and the requirement to check the fitting is not on there. Moreover, I would suggest that checking something with a mechanism most people with 'normal' piercings are unfamiliar with is not a reasonable expectation - especially when, for the first few months at least, it is quite painful to fiddle with.

As you can imagine, I have vented to my family and friends. Insanely, the exact same issue happened to both my sister and my niece - both with diamond studs that were fitted by MARIA TASH.

Honestly - their stuff is beautiful - but I would not touch it with a barge pole ever again - and their knee jerk implication that their customers are at fault is unpleasant and unacceptable.

I hope both Liberty and Harrods realise that this is not a brand with their quality standards.

They write in their response: "We shared tailored advice in relation to the jewellery you purchased from us prior to purchase and again once the earring was installed in your piercing" - this is simply untrue: there was no mention at any point of the need to check the earring, or any advice about how the earring worked except for the paragraph on a piece of card they added to the bag with the cleaning solution. "Furthermore we shared a printed wearing guide which clearly highlights how this jewellery works and should be worn" - again, it does not comment on any need to check the earring.

As per my earlier review - the fact that this has happened to three members of the same family makes resolutely clear to me that these earrings are not fit for purpose. Based on the other reviews, I am clearly not the only person who has come to this conclusion.

Furthermore we shared a printed wearing guide which clearly highlights how this jewellery works and should be worn.

Our warranty only covers against manufacturing faults, these faults are usually apparent within hours / days however what you experienced happened six months after this piece was installed in your piercing and the part you still have has been clearly examined by our experts and deemed as perfectly functional which suggests the loss of the frontal isn't related to a manufacturing fault.

Poor quality

bought and spent a lot of money on jewelry from maria tash. It either falls out or snaps off inside the back plate. Cheaply made for an expensive price tag- avoid!

It's taken me a while to write this…

It's taken me a while to write this review, but I'm really not happy with either the quality of the piercing after 5 years(!) it has been one thing after another. Tried to get the piercing studs replaced and received no help whatsoever. Endless queues in the store, unhelpful staff and I've since been told the piercing in my upper lobe wasn't done correctly. it knocks against the cartilage bone and has closed up multiple times, every time I try to put a stud in it is painful. I think this place is just traumatic from start to finish, avoid, shop local with someone you can actually speak to and trust. the clasps on the hoop earrings also don't close properly, I got the rose gold hoops and they fall out every time I put them in.

Shocking ! Awful please avoid at all costs My daughter booked a very expensive appointment that requires a deposit . Within 2 weeks her diamond earring fell out and we had to queue for over an hour for it to be redone. It fell out again 3 weeks later and there is no way to book an appointment . You have to join another queue where salespeople are selling shoddy merchandise to unknowing customers Why should it take £900 and 4 hours for a 12 year old to end up with only one earring . Absolutely delighted

I am absolutely delighted with the service I’ve received from Maria Tash Harrods this morning. Getting a piece that I’ve long wanted but was only available in the U.S., keeping me informed throughout, and giving me a phenomenally painless tash rook piercing earlier today. I am absolutely delighted with the piece and whole experience. Cannot recommend the Harrods Maria Tash store more highly and Chelsea Ezekiel specifically. She personally sourced the piece for me and her consideration and care has been exceptional. So grateful. Maria Tash is known for premium piercing jewellery, but it’s great people that make it a premium brand. Thank you all so much

Excellent Experience 🥰 Steve is fantastic

I went to Maria Tash in Liberty’s and the staff were amazing. I wanted a Daith piercing, but unfortunately, I don’t have the ear anatomy for it 😔 they gave me options and I went for a Maria Tash Rook instead. I was so so happy with the piercing. STEVE my piercer was amazing and explained everything so well and was incredibly professional. Previously, I had a helix piercing in Beverley Hills and Liberty was just has good / without a champagne reception. The staff and STEVE were great and I will definitely be back for another piercing with Maria Tash. Thank you for an incredible experience Xxxxx

Disappointing experience @ Harrods

I visited Maria Tash at Harrods to select some earrings and potentially get additional piercings. Unfortunately, the experience was disappointing from the start. The staff seemed uninterested and disengaged. At one point, there were five employees present, but they all disappeared shortly there after. There was one family that was quickly served and then only myself.

One staff member assisted me by showing various products. I wanted to try on a triple earring to see how it would fit my ear, but she informed me it wasn't possible due to sterilization policies as it was a piercing studio. I suggested they clean the earring like other high end shops do, but she insisted it wasn't an option. This reasoning seemed inconsistent, given that people handle the jewelry frequently without any sterile packaging or cleaning.

All products look absolutely beautifully designed, unfortunately their selection was lacking some stock. They had run out of almost all studs, so I couldn't compare different sizes. When I inquired about this, the staff initially claimed they had none. However, another employee later brought out a box where I noticed a plastic display with all the diamond stud sizes, indicating a lack of transparency or willingness to help of the previous employee.

Moreover, the staff appeared inexperienced and confused about the sizes and prices of various items. This only added to the frustration.

Overall, the experience was extremely disappointing, far below the standards expected of a premium brand at Harrods.
I do not plan to return there and might consider trying the Liberty location instead.
I have only seen some reviews on you tube before visiting, they were all glowing and probably some people were paid or given free products. After my visit I looked on Trustpilot and I was shocked to see 2.1 overall rating reflecting poor service and bad quality of some products.

For a brand like Maria Tash, I expected much better. The service did not align with Harrods' reputation or the standards of a premium brand.

Saved by the reviews!

Reading the reviews here sends chills down my spine and wish I had read them before making several purchases from this company. I lost a rose gold thunderbolt thread earring after just 2 months of purchasing it from Harrods in March 2024. I was just about to leave the house one morning and decided to look in the mirror one last time before heading out, and I noticed the thunderbolt was gone. I was devastated and even cancelled my outing, turning the house inside out to no success. My heart sank as I blamed myself for not screwing it in properly and bought another one the very next day with a butterfly backing, it’s been ok since. A month later, the same heartbreaking incident happened to my tragus bought from mariatash website again in March 2024. The post was still in my ear, but the stud was gone. Luckily, I found it but never wore it again. I would return it but unclear about the warranty. The guilt I felt was overwhelming, thinking it was my fault for not securing it properly. Now, I realise it’s just poor quality merchandise after reading these reviews. These reviews have had a profound impact on me, saving me £1500+, as just this afternoon, I had planned on buying two eternity diamond hoops for my lobes. I am grateful for the honesty and relieved to have avoided another potential heartache.

Awful - avoid this brand

I had a lobe piercing at Maria Tash in Liberty, London in November 2023. The piercer was efficient and it healed well. Today, I noticed that the stud had become unscrewed from the post and is lost. I contacted Maria Tash client services and they tried to blame me for not switching the original post to the shorter one, saying that it could have got caught in my hair or clothing. The original post fitted closely - I've subsequently tried the shorter one and it is too short to fit comfortably in my piercing. Good quality jewellery doesn't simply come apart like this - I've worn a diamond Cartier Love bracelet for 15 years with no problems. I've since read all of the appalling reviews about Maria Tash jewellery so I can only blame myself for not researching thoroughly beforehand. My advice is to avoid purchasing from this brand.

Exceptional Piercing Quality

About two months ago, I got my first two piercings with Maria Tash—one "Tash Rook" (a.k.a flat piercing) and a daith piercing on the same ear. It was my first time getting a cartilage piercing, and I'm glad I went to Maria Tash.

Regarding the piercings themselves, I have three lobe piercings on each from other piercers, all of which were more painful and difficult to heal than my daith or flat piercings from Maria Tash. If you're looking to curate your ear and want to go with some traditionally more painful/difficult to heal cartilage-placements, I think Maria Tash is the way to go. I'll definitely being going back to them for cartilage piercings in the future.

Regarding the quality of their jewelry, it can be a bit delicate sometimes, but I haven't had any issues (apart from a slight bend after removing a couple plain, 16 gauge hoops I got for one of my lobe pairs—I was, however, able to bend it back in place pretty easily. Some of their pieces are on the more fragile side, but I think that's more a product of their jewelry's "daintier" style—you can't really expect an 18-16 gauge piece of gold wire not to bend with force.

TLDR; Overall, their piercing service is exceptional and great for someone looking for a first-time cartilage piercing, and I think their jewelry is of good quality, albeit a little delicate by virtue of its style.

extremely expensive returns system

Extremely expensive returns system. I would not buy from Maria Tash again because of this. Maria Tash have pointed out that they list returns fees on the website and I’m not disputing that but it should be much more prominent at check out as I’m not sure many people would actively go looking for it. £11 to return a single earring is outrageous.

I bought 15 earrings from them, 6 fell off my ear, they were all expensive diamonds, I do not recommend buying piercings from them, their staff is arrogant and unapologetic.

Maria Tash studs fall out ! 🥲

May 2023 I got my first Maria Tash piercing with a pretty flower diamond stud costing 650 euros . 1 year later and yesterday I lost my third Tash earring because it just came loose each time and popped out . The design is clearly faulty and I’m so tired of discovering my piercing missing . Maria Tash replaced one of the losses ( clearly they know there is a design problem) but have refused to replace the latest one . I did nothing wrong ! The mechanism is faulty . It didn’t break ! It came loose . I found the back yesterday but unfortunately despite searching myself and putting the hotel where I was attending a lunch on alert to try to find it - there is no sign ! This is incredibly disappointing ! I have never lost an earring in my life before buying Maria Tash and now this repeated experience ! Id like to ask people to highlight this problem if they have had it so the company acknowledge that there is a problem because it’s really not fair to take peoples money and have this happen through no fault of the customer

They lie on the materials they use

UPDATE: I got a confirmation from a jeweler professional and from Maria Tash that in fact, is NOT solid gold. They add “other materials” that they do not disclose and they make the jewelry to tarnish with regular use. The earrings are advertised as solid gold. This is unacceptable and I will be filling a complain with the FTC so they can investigate further. There is nowhere on their website where they mention is gold and “other materials”. They refused to refund my money.

They lie on the materials they use. They are charging thousands of dollars and it is not solid gold!!!!! I spent 4k on their jewelry and it is a scam! All my pieces became copper color. Worst quality I have ever seen and customer service is not responsive.

Dear Aida,

Please note that no jewelry is actually made of 100% gold / pure gold. The gold metal is mixed with other alloys such as copper, silver, rhodium, etc. in order to obtain what we call yellow gold, rose gold or white gold.

Pure gold is very soft and not suitable for everyday wear. It is the most malleable and ductile of all elements, so it is easily bent, scratched, and reshaped. Pure gold does not offer a secure setting for gemstones and is quite heavy, so would be uncomfortable to wear.

Our jewelry is made of 18k (18 karat gold) which contains approximatively 75% gold and 25% other metals, often copper, silver, rhodium, etc.
On the market you will find jewelry made of 9k, 10k, 14k, 18k, etc. All these are a combination of pure gold and other metals and no other jewelry brand sells "pure gold".

In this particular case your jewelry is yellow gold meaning the following materials have been used during the manufacturing process:
75.55% Pure Gold
13.42% Silver
9.55% Copper
1.48% Zinc

This being said the pieces you purchased from us are in fact what the jewelry industry refers to as solid gold.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us.

Kindly note that all our jewelry are made in solid gold, we are not manufacturing any gold plated jewelry. Our management team went ahead and explained the reason why there is a slight discolouration around the hinge area, this can easily be cleaned with a polishing cloth, furthermore we offered to receive these pieces in our facility and clean them directly.

There are two primary causes of gold jewellery turning black. The first is oxidation, which occurs when external agents such as air, water, and skin contact interact with the metal over time. This reaction causes a thin layer of tarnish on the gold’s surface, which appears dark. You may notice that some areas of your jewellery are more tarnished than others because those areas are more exposed to air and other elements.
The second common cause of discolouration is due to chemicals found in soaps, lotions, perfumes, and other beauty products. These chemicals can cause reactions with the gold alloy in your jewellery that result in it changing colour

You claimed these pieces were assessed by a professional jeweller who confirmed they are not solid gold, kindly send us his statement / report at cs@mariatash.com.
All the jewelry is quality controlled on several occasions and they wouldn't pass the assay office controls and receive the appropriate hallmarks if they weren't solid gold.

Don't get pierced at Maria Tash

I had my third lobe piercings done at a Maria Tash store and I am extremely disappointed by the quality of service and care. The piercer was lovely, but the quality of the piercing is awful.

I was assured by the team that piercing with a hoop is fine, but after 3 months of cleaning/drying every day, I developed large bumps on both the front and back of the piercings. They scabbed over and looked horrendous. I went back to Maria Tash for advice, and was given nothing except to 'keep cleaning them' - they encouraged me to continue purchasing their wipes which are very expensive compared to other items on the market.

After 5 months of no change, I went back to Maria Tash again and was told I should go to another piercing shop in London to have them take out the Maria Tash hoops and put in Titanium Studs as those would heal better. I was offered no help from the team at Maria Tash.

I ended up going to a local piercer who said they had seen multiple ex-Maria Tash customers in the same position as me because piercing with a hoop is a terrible idea. I would encourage all my friends not to get pierced at Maria Tash - it's a rip-off and the quality of aftercare is extremely disappointing for the price you are paying.

Getting pierced with a hoop in a 3rd lobe piercing is absolutely fine as long as the hoop has a certain diameter. Kindly note that each piercing carries it's own risks and the aftercare process plays an important role when it comes to healing. Furthermore we would never ask our clients to visit a third party to have their piercing issues resolved unless the clients are nowhere near one of our MARIA TASH locations and are in need of urgent care.

I went with my cousin on Friday to get a double cuff piercing. Aside from being very very expensive, the piercing service was unsatisfactory and definitely not worth the huge cost. The lady asked my cousin which order she would like the piercing in. Once it was done, she then told my cousin she would have got it the other way around as you couldn’t see one of them. Sorry…could she not have said that at the beginning?? As the professional, should you not give a recommendation as you do this every day?! Disappointing. It also made my cousin feel like it didn’t look good, so again, a good example of rubbish customer service. Also, there were no questions asked before she started like “Are you feeling ok” or “do you bleed when having ears pierced”. My cousin did bleed a bit afterwards and then she actually blamed her for not saying anything! I would never recommend this place. Better to seek out a local jeweller who has more experience.
