Only watched Bangers and Cash on TV
Only watched Bangers and Cash on TV. I haven't been to the auction, nor been to a live event, Gosh im gobsmacked at these reviews. It looks like a bit of customer relations need a tweek or two. Paul and Dave, I know your dad has stepped back a bit, I don't think your taking things for granted, but do think you can do much better. I think we all know that. When the cameras are turned off and everybody's gone home, you'll look back and think, what a great opportunity you had. Hope your reviews get better, which I know they will.
Went to bangers and cash live at…
Went to bangers and cash live at Scamson Hall, what a big disappointment very badly organised took ages to get in and what a waste of time when we got in .
It was in a field next to the Hall the advert implied it was in the manicured grounds of the hall not a nearby field , after paying £20 for tickets each to get in, it took less than an hour to walk round , this event was over hyped there was 15000 tickets sold according to Derrick Mathews so £300k for a weekend !!! Not a bad day at the office
After listening to Derrick and his sons talking on stage about the same old same old that you have heard on nearly every episode we decided to leave we was there 2 hours and walked round twice to make sure we had not missed anything, the content of the show was rubbish to be honest and not much of it
Avoid if they ever do another one
Live Event
I have followed this program for years so took my relative as a birthday treat to the 'Live' event. The travel problems are well documented by others on here. Being relatively local, we know the A64 can be busy but 3 miles in 2 hours near the venue is a bit excessive! After not moving for 30 minutes we headed for home after 3.5 hours in the car, (return journey took 1 hour).
The ticket provider seems virtually impossible to contact after the event (I've tried) so £40+ wasted, but the money is minor compared to the huge sense of disappointment. I know others who travelled from York and either didn't get in or missed most of the event
Live event -looked like way too many…
Live event -looked like way too many tickets sold, tiny entrance and exit to the hall (poor venue), A64 a nightmare at the best of times and an accident really scuppered it, food and drink stalls way too busy and not enough of them or staff, a 40 minutes queue for a drink, vendors running out of stock way too quickly, very little in the way of interactive events/areas, the smallest and worst collection of stalls at a show I've ever seen.....cost us double the entrance fee in fuel! Not one we'll be visiting again......shame
Oversubscribed
Oversubscribed, too many tickets sold in my opinion, traffic horrendous and those supposedly organising the traffic just sat in their pick up under a tree. Missed most of the day, ridiculous lay out inside the venue, the map of the venue was incorrect as the toilets were nowhere near as shown on the map.
For me personally there were far too many rally cars and not much of anything else, overall a very very disappointing day, only stayed around 2 hours and then went to Scarborough for the rest of the day, certainly won't bother next year especially if they use the same venue. Come on Mathewsons you can do better than this.
Bangers and Cash Live
Terrible experience. 3hours to travel 4 miles on A64, got to venue and only one entrance in and out, shambolic. Lots of so called staff in orange jackets doing nothing. We had a blue badge user yet got directed miles from blue badge parking saying that it was full. We drove round and did get a space near entrance. Then had to queue for tickets to be scanned and bags to be searched. Lay out of show was all wrong, food stalls too close together, long unorganised queues to get drinks. Lack of trade stalls. Due to traffic delays we missed first half of show which was unfortunate if an accident was the hold up. Leaving show was again a shambles as cars leaving parking area from many directions to get into the one exit lane, nobody directing traffic, guys in orange jackets sitting under trees doing nothing. Feel that show is held in the wrong venue for the number of people attending. £40 entrance fee for two sadly not warrented.
We spent hours queuing to get into the…
We spent hours queuing to get into the event caused by poorly trained staff they did not have a clue how to deal with parking for so many cars. So many cars meant a long walking distance to the event. They were more interested in checking you had no drink or food so you had to buy in the revenue at very inflated prices and very long queue and after queueing for an hour they had sold out of what you want. Very few true classic cars. Just a few stalls selling classic goods. Over crowded was all about profit and ripping off the public. Never again . They should refund everyone
A very diappointing event starting with a massive taffic jam because of terrible access and parking…
Terrible access and parking arrangements created a 3 hour traffic jam on the A64 from York. So, missed all the morning. Disappointing collection of cars to see; intrusive public address from the auction; huge queues for incredibly expensive food outlets ( bringing own food forbidden), and a lot of very digruntled people who had paid £20 per ticket for entry . Never again! Frankly it would be honourable to offer a refund of the entry fee!

Just been to Bangers and Cash Live
Just been to Bangers and Cash Live, don’t bother!. The tickets were booked months ago for a special surprise for my husband who loves the show. Can honestly say it’s been one of the worst days we have ever had. It took three hours to do 20 miles after sat nav said we would arrive at 10.23. Finally arrived at 13.23! The access is just shocking. An accident was blamed but we were crawling or stopped for three hours with no signs of any accident. We walked a long way to get to site and it was chaos at ticket entrance too. Some bags searched, some not. What’s the point of that. You were not allowed to bring food or drink onto site but the queues for everything were miles long. We had nothing to eat or drink. The cars were so disappointing, mostly modern more than old and all mixed up. A total disaster and waste of £40 precious pounds and a spoilt anniversary present for my husband. Everyone we spoke to was disappointed. We left at 15.22 for 129 mile journey home. Just shocking! Far to many people and tickets sold. Total greed.
Fantastic experience from start to…
Fantastic experience from start to finish! Strongly encourage anyone wanting to bid in an auction to actually take the time and effort to go to the showroom and view. I had seen a motorbike that I thought I wanted and upon viewing, it wasn't exactly to my requirements but I found another, better bike whilst walking around the workshop (hence, actually being there gives you the option to view ALL the listings). The team couldn't have been more helpful when we got there. I asked loads of questions and no problem attitude (please ignore any previous negative posts - obviously people who don't appreciate this hard working, straight talking, 'bit of banter type' team). I emailed more questions, replies received straightaway and they were very friendly when I phoned as I had a small problem with registering (tip: you must use a debit card to register, not a credit card!). Bidding on the day was easy and straightforward. Email received upon my purchase with full details and asking for details so they could do the V5 for me. Lee (absolutely brilliant trusted deliverer they use - highly recommend him) delivered the bike today, secured and looked after in his van. My experience has been totally hassle free and I recommend Mathewsons to anyone!
Never seen anything like it an auction…
Never seen anything like it an auction that does not like no reserve lots. Don’t ring us email us then wait ten days for no reply I’ve been in the motor trade 37 years I go to 3 auctions a week proper ones I’ve forgot more about auction than these know I might ad this is just a glorified tv show they think there stars when in reality he’s just a old bloke with no morals a cheater and he’s sons are lap dogs. IF YOU ARE A GENUINE TRADER WANTING TO DO AUCTION BUSINESS FORGET IT THERE A WASTE OF TIME AND ENERGY
You'd think I'd leave a glowing report but ...
Despite selling 6 classic motorbikes my experience left a lot to be desired and as events unfolded I'm wondering if they really had my best interests in mind. The way they portray themselves on the TV show is far from reality.
I took 8 motorbikes in total to them and on delivery Dave was very off-hand with the delivery driver I'd used. Matthewsons listed my motorbikes and despite me giving them comprehensive folders, keys and summaries they showed only the most basic information. I had to point out key features (like one being a one-owner from new motorbike) which they then added. I also said they should let me know if they felt any of the reserves set were too high but they didn't make any comment or provide any insight.
The first motorbike went through and the highest bid was only £50 short of the reserve so they used their discretion and sold. The next auctions bar one didn't meet reserve and were quite a way off. Having reviewed the level of bid I decided to accept 4 bids. Now, on the TV they show how they negotiate between the seller and the buyer to get to a mutually acceptable price. They didn't do this and I didn't get any feedback.
A few days later I had a call saying they were taking the unsold motorbikes to a timed auction and advised we should reduce the reserves. I agreed to reduce one to £3,900 (it had achieved bids on the day of £4,500) and the other to £3,500 (this had gone to £4,200). Curiously very few items sold at this timed auction - indeed, I didn't even know this was a thing, so maybe no-one else does.
I got another call a few days later telling me I needed to collect the unsold motorbikes because they hadn't achieved any interest and they wouldn't be putting them through another auction. I said I'd pay another listing fee, but they simply weren't interested. I arranged collection.
Another few days went by and I got a call from them to say there was interest in one of the motorbikes I was bringing home. Apparently someone had missed the opportunity to bid. I said I was expecting the (lower) reserve but Matthewsons said the mysterious bidder wasn't willing to go that high. Well, if they were intending on bidding, the lowest bid on the timed auction was the reserve, so make of that what you will.
The unsold motorbikes are now back at home and will be listed through a more professional company
They did exactly what they promised to do
They did exactly what they promised to do . When a promise is made ,and kept , it is extremely gratifying and I thank them very much for that .I will not go into details -all I can say is that everything was done within the timescale that they said . I can not say more than thanks again for what you did for me ....and the car!
Regards ,
Michael
Visited Mathewsons last year
Visited Mathewsons last year. Emailed first before going to make sure sites were open. Prompt replies to emails. Saw various family members going about their business. Great place to visit. My wife spoke to Sooty about a motorbike her father had when she was a child, and she rode on the back. He was extremely helpful and knowledgeable. I subsequently purchased a sign in the following auction, again communication from the admin team was great.
Its not Disney
Oddly this Trustpilot issue might work in their favour. Other entitled grockles will read the reviews or have the reviews read for them, and avoid the place, leaving the Matthewson family to get on with their thriving business. Their work place is not a theme park and unlike Alton Towers, the Matthewsons Auction business is not dependent on these Trustpilot reviews written by whinging nobodies. Great TV programme, keep up the great work.
Gang of con men avoid this place dave…
Gang of con men avoid this place dave should get an Oscar for his performance on tv because in the flesh he is the rudest little man you could meet as for Derek make you own mind up cheating on his loyal wife at his age says it all
Went mattewsons 2020 met Derek and dave…
Went mattewsons 2020 met Derek and dave in main shop said we travelled from plymouth to meet them and have a good look around Derek told us to go to their pickering showroom and meet Paul and Charlie had a good lookaround and had photos with Paul made very welcome We visited again on 8-5-24 only to find the showroom in the main street has been turned into a souvenir shop selling t shirts and mugs amongst other stuff went to the pickering showroom and it was made clear we could not go in to have a look around unless we made an appointment what a waste of time! clearly they think they are too famous now and don't care about the people anymore
Greed
Well what can we say about the Mathewson family : start with Derek it is about time we called time on Derek not a clue about good old Classic Cars but likes the ladies in a short skirt and loves the colour of punters money paying his last old lady off for messing around with the ladies , the sad sons who know nothing about good old classics ( Dave if it’s a ford escort well your in look he will be W—-king over the bonnet , if you take your cherished classic car to Mathewsons and Dave is auctioning it you have no chance , then we have good old Paul and is fat son spoilt beyond belief, typically daddy does a days supposed work then showers is fat son with loads of cash , The Mathewson would be absolutely nothing if the TV company following this cash happy family pulled the plug or called time ( so please keep those lovely cherished classics in your garage and do not go to Greedy Mathewson family
