In the interests of safety and business ethics
As part of a £1m+ significant home renovation project, our interior designer recommended Plantation Shutters (Beaconsfield branch) to manufacture and fit shutters in my shiny-new custom joinery office on the 2nd floor of my new home. Rather clumsily, a number of measurements taken by Lee at Plantation Shutters prior to manufacture were taken incorrectly. Therefore, when my new shutters were fitted, due to the mistakes made during the measuring process, they didn't fit correctly such that the windows in the room cannot be opened! Not only is this just plain 'inconvenient', it could also be life threatening, because should there be a fire, there would be no way to escape, so the consequences of rather poor workmanship could be dire. So naturally I requested them to be remade and refitted to the correct dimensions. Initially they agreed to honour my polite request, but upon chasing them for a fitting date, they informed me that they now won't fix the problem on the grounds that my interior designer [with whom we were no longer working for some unrelated unlawful commercial reasons] hadn't 'authorised' it! So in summary, despite the fact that Plantation Shutters had been paid in full for my custom shutters such that they were happy enough to fit them in my home, they decided to wriggle-out of having to put-in the effort to fix a catastrophic and potentially life-threatening product / installation fault because a somewhat unconnected 3rd party "hadn't authorised it"! By way of relevant background, I am an ex-CEO of one of the largest and prominent customer-focussed software tech firms in Europe, so I'm very au fait with the concepts of warranties and how they should follow the product rather than the person who may have simply placed the original order. A good analogy would be buying a brand new car. Who benefits from the warranty should that car be sold within its warranty period? The person who originally ordered the car or the new owner? Of course the new owner because the warranty follows the product.
As I trust is obvious, my gripe here is twofold - 1) Careless workmanship resulting in serious product faults, and 2) A complete misunderstanding of business ethics and reasonable accountability. I admit there are only a few poor reviews of this company, but sometimes it only takes a few to scratch what might look like a shiny surface to reveal what truly lies beneath.
In all my years, I've never experienced anything like this extremely unprofessional behaviour to what, make ridiculous excuses to save a few quid!?
I know it's not pleasant to read reviews like this, but I've done it because if a disaster occurred (such as the fire example above) because I hadn't written this review, I'd never forgive myself...
Finally, from a pure UK legal perspective [should just common logic and REAL customer care not suffice], manufacturer warranty (a voluntary / contractual guarantee) and statutory consumer rights is indeed a bit of a minefield. However, in this case Plantation Shutters Limited (UK Co. 03070306) warranty is expressed as a promise about “our shutters” being defect-free in materials or workmanship, with no wording that limits cover to “the original purchaser only” or voids it upon resale/transfer. Furthermore, I would certainly have rights given that the purchase named me and my house as the install site and hence the end-customer thereby removing any legal ambiguity.
My review is dated today as I have just called them to enquire as to whether or not they intend to maintain their stance and they have confirmed that they do.

We are sorry for the frustration and concern this situation has caused you.
To clarify, our contractual client for this project is the Interior Designer. All instructions, approvals, variations, and installation authorisations must therefore come from them. This is standard practice and is not a discretionary position on our part.
Regarding the shutters themselves, we apologise for any inconvenience caused by the measurement issue, however, once this was identified, the shutters were remade promptly in accordance with the product warranty. Unfortunately, despite the corrected shutters being ready for installation and securely stored in our warehouse for just over a year, we have been unable to proceed without the required authorisation from our contractual client.
In the meantime, and in an effort to be helpful, we have offered to remove the existing shutters to eliminate any potential health and safety concerns and remain happy to do so if you would like us to.
At no point have we refused to correct the issue or attempted to avoid our responsibilities. While we appear to be the party caught in the middle, we remain ready and willing to install the shutters as soon as authorisation is received from our client. We appreciate how frustrating this situation can be from an end customer’s perspective.
We remain ready and willing to install the corrected shutters once we receive the appropriate authorisation from our client, the Interior Designer.

Plantation Shutters did a great job
Plantation Shutters did a great job of getting the look and practicality that we were looking for. Friendly service. Vincent came and did the measuring and brought samples and examples of previous work. Matched a competitive price from another retailer. When the shutters were fitted there was a difference in how they had been measured so the shutters were taken away to be altered slightly, but this was handled without fuss. We live in an old house with some some walls being slightly unusual angles, so there was a gap around the edge of the shutters which had to be filled with caulk. So just be aware that in older houses there cannot be a "perfect" fit. But we are very happy with the quality service and month after they were fitted.

Great shutters and brilliant customer service …
Great installation of our lovely shutters with minimal disruption but also great customer service. About two years after installation there was what was a problem with one of our shutters. Plantation came round within a few days and fixed it under guarantee. Then one of our family this Christmas (2025) broke a slat. I rang the company and the call was answered with no delay and the lady who answered, Chris, was able to deal with it. I expected a visit as necessary and was expecting to have to pay but she said they would send a few spring loaded clips that I could use to put back the slat into the fixing holes (I repaired the slat with super glue). They arrived the next day and I was able to put the slat back in place. Most satisfactory!! I recommend Plantation with no hesitation
