Outrageous price for bare minimum service. Left with no bathroom for 2 weeks and no replies to texts or voicemails. Shoddy finishing up. Rudeness and dishonesty.

Appointment booked, I waited all day and the engineer didn't turn up. They didn't responded to my calls and messages and I wasted all day at home waiting.
One star for them is too much

Terrible experience — I would not recommend this company.

They installed a brand-new boiler, but I was later told by Gas Safe engineers that the installation was not completed to the correct standard. There were several serious issues, including a gas leak, poorly fitted pipework, and pipes that were not installed straight.

I paid more than £5,000 for the original installation, and I am now being quoted from another company around £2,000 to have the work corrected and made safe.

This has caused me a huge amount of stress, inconvenience, and additional expense. Based on my experience, I strongly advise others to get an independent Gas Safe inspection before accepting any work.

Reviews does makes difference

I booked an engineer through Online Review for a boiler/plumbing call-out, with an appointment scheduled for the next day. When the engineer did not arrive on time, I called to ask where they were. The representative I spoke to hung up the call and said, “We will find out.”
I called back to ask why the call had been cut off and was simply told, “The engineer won’t be able to arrive on time. Would you like to reschedule?” No apology, no explanation, and then the call was hung up again.
Pathetic way to approach
I had checked the online reviews beforehand (around 1.4/5) and hoped my experience might be different, but unfortunately it matched the pattern of other negative reviews. Between the missed appointment, the lack of communication, and the rude phone handling, I would not recommend this company in their current state

Never use Plunger ltd. of Paul Street
They cheated me of almost £300 (£297) and tried to get £594 from me for a tiny job of putting valves on 3 radiators. They arrived 3 hours late - too late to buy the small stuff needed for the job, asked me to sign something which I naively did, and under the Consumers Rights Act of 2015 and the Consumer Contracts Regulations am informed that they don't have a right to say you cannot get your money back. Yet the small print on the back of what I had signed says you cannot get your money back under any circumstances! Legally, this should have been pointed out anyway (CRA 2015 above), but he did not show it me, and said I had to pay half of the very expensive charge then and there. I did so. I shouldn’t have because in effect it was just an inspection. He couldn’t buy anything because he turned up 3 hours late on a Friday. I’ve found out that the work should take between 1 and 1.5 hours.
I called to cancel on the Saturday but no answer until on the Monday morning, and the secretary, said he had bought the parts but as I had rung early it’s hard to believe he had time to buy anything. Even if he had, they are a business that can return the inexpensive trifles to their supplier if they really needed to, but like many plumbers, they probably have a deal to return items, or they could use them on another job. Not a good excuse and for those reasons, probably untrue! After being rude, the secretary put the ‘phone down while I was talking and hasn’t answered my email.
Now I’ve got the problem of getting any money back, which they refuse to do. This company are a bunch of sharks and should be closed down.
After reading dozens of these criticisms (of which there are hundreds), it’s a slight on Companies House that they haven’t yet closed them down?

I was called by the company following enquiry to fix a tap. When I was called I was told the cost would be £49 or £79 with VAT. I was told a Ryan would come to do the job. When I asked Ryan the cost, he then told me £99 plus VAT as it ‘wouldn’t be worth his while’ - I wasn’t about to “haggle” but it did irk me - what if I didn’t have that money to pay? It was only when I firmly told him what Scott had said that he relented. Ryan took £95 cash from me for a 10 minute job, and also took some of the new parts away (Ryan I want them back please), but offered me no receipt for the work, nothing. I then phoned Scott twice. He was totally apologetic and said he would issue me with a receipt, I will be reporting this service to Trading Standards today. My advice is to AVOID THIS COMPANY AT ALL COSTS!!!!!

My experience with Plunger was very disappointing.

First of all, they do not have their own in-house plumbers. Instead, they simply find someone local and send them to your address. This was never made clear when I booked the service.

Another issue is their pricing. Their website advertises one price, but after you book they tell you the price is only "from" that amount and then ask for much more. It feels misleading and like a bait-and-switch tactic.

The plumber who came to my house barely inspected the problem. Without even opening the shower valve or carrying out a proper diagnosis, he immediately claimed that the cartridge needed replacing. Company then said the cartridge would cost £200 and quoted a total of **£600** for the repair, which is an outrageous price for such a job.

Overall, I found the service unprofessional, overpriced, and misleading. I would not recommend this company to anyone looking for reliable and fairly priced plumbing services.

They will rinse you any chance they get. I can’t believe i was silly enough not to read the 100s of bad reviews they have on trust pilot and google.

I should have read the reviews. The guy shows up and say he can't service or repair the boiler and we need to pay £6000 + VAT to replace otherwise he is cutting off our gas and nobody can use the boiler! These people are extortionists and charlatans - please avoid at all costs!

Completely unreliable. I had a gas boiler repair booked for a 10am–12pm window and nobody showed up. When I called to find out why, the agent hung up on me. Appalling service from start to finish.

I don't trust this company, I think they are massively overcharging. At the consultation, I was told parts cost more than what they actually did, and was persuaded into paying half up front for an expensive job. When I researched how much the parts actually cost, I figured out they were charging around £500 for labour for a 20 minute job. Proceed with caution, get a second quote.

Avoid! I wish I had read the other reviews first! A lewisham gas engineer went to look at my boiler that was gurgling and dripping water. I had a phone call from Plunger with the ‘diagnosis’ and a fixed price to repair it. This felt hugely inflated and they identified that the boiler’s motor behind the fan needed replacing and the condenser needed unblocking. I asked how much the hourly labour charge was and they couldn’t tell me and told me they just offered a flat rate??. It all felt dodgy and expensive so I told them I wanted to call someone for a second opinion. I got that and rang plunger back in about 10 minutes to say “no thank you” and agreed to just pay the call out fee - which I did. In that short space of time (15 mins) the plumber had taken it upon himself to correct the issue (unblocked the condenser and tightened a screw) and wanted £300 for the 20 minute job!!!! I pointed out that I hadn’t authorised the work to be done and I refused to pay the astronomical amount. His response was okay don’t pay but I will make sure the boiler doesn’t work again.

This company is not honest and it it employs crooks for gas engineers

I was scammed by paying for a boiler part that they didn't installed. I took them to court and won. However, the bailiffs can't serve the warrant because the address is just a forwarding address.

DEEPLY UNRELIABLE SERVICE-I'M STILL WAITING, AND THEY'VE STOPPED ANSWERING MY CALLS. I wish I had read the reviews before booking Plunger. They kept making appointment times and then simply didn't turn up. I've now waited through multiple no-shows. Every time I called, the line went dead, or I was told someone would ring me back in 2 minutes - but no one ever did. I have been patient and polite throughout, yet I now suspect my calls have been blocked as they've stopped answering altogether. There is no customer service. After checking reviews, I can see I'm far from the only one who's had this experience. I'm furious and disappointed. Do not use this company.

Prompt response to be fair. They gave me appointment for next day, and 3h window arrival. Just reaching 4h they call to postpone for the next day. Another 2h wait, reaching 3h they called me to tell me that would be "just"another 45'.

I contacted them this week about a boiler issue, and as a customer, I simply asked whether the engineer would explain the problem before quoting the repair fee. The agent responded very rudely, saying, “Do you want to do it yourself?” This was before they had even arranged a visit to my home. I found the attitude completely unacceptable, so I decided not to proceed ― and I’m glad I didn’t. After seeing so many reviews warning about their terrible service, I feel I definitely made the right choice.

Extremely Unprofessional — Avoid at All Costs

How this company is allowed to trade is beyond me. I contacted them because a tenant was having heating issues (though hot water was still working). They sent someone out and quoted £580 for the repair, insisting on full payment upfront. I refused and agreed to pay half first and the remaining balance on completion.

They then carried out a temporary fix which failed within 15 minutes — and this time the hot water stopped working too, meaning the issue was made worse than before. We called repeatedly asking them to return and fix the problem, and every day they gave excuses promising “tomorrow.” Three days later, no one has shown up.

I also requested an invoice multiple times and received nothing. To make matters worse, they charged the remaining balance without my consent, taking the payment from my card without permission. How is this legal?

Terrible. Missed two appointments, never called me back twice about it when promised and then started cutting off my calls when I rang again asking politely what was happening before not answering their phone at all. Do not bother with this unprofessional crowd. Thank God I didn't pay upfront. They need trading standards onto them.

Made an appointment to visit my property was given a 2 hour window between 10am and 12pm. I phoned them 3 times and spoke to somebody called Scot. He said he would get back to me each time with an update but did not do so. Nobody turned up I was left waiting for over 2 hours. Do not use this company they are in reliable.
