Primitive, buggy website

This is a primitive, buggy website. My Railcard account is cluttered with numerous old, expired Railcards that cannot be deleted. Now I find that I can't renew my recently expired Railcard due to some sort of bug. Loads of their customers are complaining about similar problems, some of which seem to have existed for years. Pathetic.

This is a very badly constructed…

This is a very badly constructed website. In particular, it refused to recognise my driving licence number despite my entering it several times. "There is an issue with your driving licence number."
The licence was issued in 2024, so there is no excuse for the Senior Railcard database not being up to date. And yes, I did enter 16 digits and it gave me a tick, then refused to recognise the number.
I strongly object to using such powerful ID as passport number just to prove my age but I had no option.

I received email offering Free spring…

I received email offering Free spring fragrance set worth £26 from senior rail card.
I paid £3.95 postage and 3plastic trays arrived.
When I phoned the senior rail card to complain the person asked me for my bank card not my reference number of the rail card.
Seniors beware.

'something wrong with the system' …

'something wrong with the system' is the repeated message that I get when trying to request the download code( which should have been sent on the purchase of my Railcard) which means that I cannot use the Railcard that I have just purchased.
When reporting this I received an email telling me that it could take up to 10 days for a response!! Totally unacceptable.

I renewed my senior railcard using tesco points

I renewed my senior railcard using Tesco points (eventually).
What a palaver!
I tried the download codes, didnt work.
I removed the app from phone, re-download the app, re-installed, entered code and heypresto.
What should have been a straightforward process took ages mucking about.
Who dreams up this pile of ..

Very unclear instructions for online renewal

I made the fatal mistake of trying to renew my Senior Railcard on my PC, when most of the instructions seem to relate to the app. No wonder I couldn't see where to click. Once I had eventually realised this I got there in the end but it was a complete nightmare. Also you are not allowed to update your own email address in your account!!! When I emailed about this, I got a very suspicious email back. It was politely worded but it demanded a ridiculous amount of information which led me to assume it must be a scam email. It was the work of moments to update my email address on my bank account so why all the palaver just for a Railcard? I still haven't resolved this so they still have my old email address.

Terrible App, terrible experience.

I purchased my second senior railcard online because I got a significant discount for using Tesco clubcard points.
It was a frustrating and complicated business. Navigating my way through the application process was really hard and the 'help' options are anything but helpful! I eventually managed to get my railcard App to work on my phone. I was unfortunately stupid enough to repeat the process through the app, again because of Tesco clubcard points, it seems that it is impossible to renew it and have the new railcard appear on the app! Absolutely nothing works! I can use the app to show any member of rail staff that I am the proud owner of an expired senior railcard, then with a few swipes and prods show them that I have an active railcard!
If you don't have Tesco points or anything else giving you a discount, do what I did for my first railcard. Pay cash at a ticket office! An easy, quicker and stress free way of getting a Senior Railcard.

What a con

I have bought a train trip to London for my husband and I on LNER and I already have a senior railcard - the price was cheaper with 2 railcards so I bought the trip and then went online to get my husband a senior railcard. I did this through TRIP who will not activate it unless I book a trip with them which seems an absolute con - I dont need another trip I just need my husbands railcard - I presume I have just wasted my money…..

What happened to my rail card

Well I bought a 12 month rail card on the 22nd of June, and as yet there is no sign of it some 4 weeks later. So far I have dealt with 3 different people and still no rail card.

So this is my situation.
1 rail card ordered
22nd of June card ordered
3 people contacted me
4 weeks and no card.

Let compromise, how about you give me my rail card buy the 5th week and you can keep my money.

My reference number is 30787151.

I have given you a 3 star rating because the whole experience has amused me.

Five star service and experience; thank you Railcard!

I had to call them three times due, I stress, to my being slightly tech stupid and not in any way their fault. On each occasion the phone was answered really quickly and each person I spoke to was polite, knowledgeable and, best of all, reassuring and eager to help. They are open 7am to 10pm every day except Christmas, making it easy for working people to contact them outside office hours. I'm impressed and delighted to have my new three-year card on my iphone. Why can't banks and GP practices provide the same superb service levels?

Stupid time travel you can't leave…

Stupid time travel you can't leave London before 10.20 to Herne bay and return you can't get back to London before 11 am absolutely useless for hospital appointments or visits travel by coach no restrictions and much cheaper

Bank account debited six times

We tried to buy 2 senior Railcard online, and at the end of the process an automated message in red was displayed saying that the applications couldn't be processed. We tried several times, in accordance with the instructions in red, and we were met with the same message that we weren't successful. What we did not know, was that, despite this message, our account had been debited six times! Once on a debit card and five times on a credit card. No emails or other messages received to inform us the money had been debited.
It was only when we checked our bank accounts online, that we discovered this. We still await a refund.

Senior railcard wasn’t sent , I received a network railcard instead

Back in March 23 I purchased a senior railcard , but unbeknown to me the card I received was the wrong card , I didn’t realise this until I used it the other day on a long distance journey to Norwich , the ticket inspector told me he couldn’t accept it as it was a network railcard , this card is useless to me as it’s only for people living in the southeast and London network , I live in the midlands ,
I was horror struck when he told me I’d have to pay the full fare to Norwich a single ticket one way costing £66 . I then asked for time to ring Trainline , which the call I made was useless and a waste of time , I was refused a solution to the problem and had to purchase another digital senior railcard online . The ticket inspector who kept coming back to me and standing over me like I was a criminal did however agree that if I purchased the new senior railcard during the journey he agreed to not charge me anymore . This I did after a good while of searching for proof of age etc . I had to prove to the ticket inspector I had purchased the railcard , I could only show him the email as proof of purchase as the card wasn’t yet in my Trainline app account. So I went on my way happier, but the experience of that journey was very upsetting and unpleasant .
On my return home I called Trainline again to explain my issue , the card they digitally sent me was the wrong card , not the senior railcard ordered ,
a network rail card can be purchased by anyone regardless of age , when I purchased my senior railcard I had to prove my age with either my passport or driving licence number , it wasn’t untill I used it on Tuesday 13th June , 2 months after I bought it that it was the wrong card . They told me they couldn’t refund their mistake because it was outside of 2 week deadline for making complaint and informing them .
I asked to speak with a senior officer there but he wasn’t available to speak with me .
For anyone receiving a railcard from Trainline ensure before you upload it that it’s correct and if it’s wrong complain before 2 weeks , don’t wait until you use it .

The website is frustrating and useless

The website is frustrating and useless. I've been trying for hours to buy a senior railcard and every time have to put in all my information. At the last purchase screen, you then get a 'sincere' apology that there is something wrong with their system. Trying to contact them through their FAQ screen is also useless. 'We'll get back to you shortly.' They never do.
