ToursByLocals Reviews

He was an excellent guide with great personality. Very prompt, had great communication with us and customized our excursions. We booked him for two days and saw everything we want to see. Highly recommend!

Always reliable! The best guides are listed on Tours by Locals. Always my go-to!

The tour with Alex K. was highly informative. I appreciated that he reached out via the TbL site and WhatsApp before the tour and offered to meet us right at our hotel. Having lived in Japan for nearly 20 years, he is exceptionally knowledgeable about its history, religion, and culture.
Because rain was forecasted, we flexibly adjusted our itinerary—taking the ferry to Miyajima in the morning and spending most of the afternoon exploring the city. Alex took us to a school near Ground Zero (which his daughter currently attends) and guided us through Peace Memorial Park and Museum. You could easily spend a couple of hours in the museum alone.
While Hiroshima is a sobering place to visit, we learned so much and gained a deep appreciation for its history. Highly recommended to friends and family!

This is an amazing site to connect and contract with local guides. We have been never disappointed.

Knowlegable guide. All good

The guide we enlisted thru ToursBy Locals in Warsaw was perfect and made our excursion with her very rewarding.

Our tour guide, Seyhan, was a 17th-generation “Istanbulite,” and his obvious pride in the city, combined with his thorough insider knowledge, made the experience truly special. He was able to answer virtually any question we had, whether about Istanbul’s fascinating history or its modern-day life as a vibrant metropolis.

As a former teacher, he had a wonderful ability to explain things thoughtfully, thoroughly, and honestly. He was also very attentive to the interests and energy level of our group and effortlessly adjusted the itinerary and pace to make sure we had the best experience possible.

He met us promptly at the agreed-upon location and was ready to begin. Throughout the tour, he was personable, knowledgeable, and genuinely enjoyable to spend time with. He provided fascinating historical context at every site while also connecting what we were seeing to modern life in Istanbul. His deep ties to the local community were evident and gave us perspectives we would not have experienced on our own.

We especially appreciated that he:

● Arrived on time and was ready to begin

● Was very personable and easy to talk with

● Provided a comfortable vehicle

● Gave us choices about which sights we wanted to visit

● Prepared us in advance for any tickets or documentation we would need

● Gave us plenty of time for photographs, offered to take pictures for us, and pointed out excellent photo opportunities

● Created a wonderful mix of major tourist sights and local areas, explaining the history and character of each

● Chose an excellent restaurant for lunch and helped us navigate the menu so we could enjoy authentic Turkish food.

Thanks to his knowledge, experience, and genuine love for Istanbul, we experienced the city at a comfortable pace while gaining both historical insight and a sense of how locals experience it today.

We thoroughly enjoyed our time with him and would highly recommend him to anyone looking for a knowledgeable, thoughtful, personable, and flexible tour guide in Istanbul.

The tour guides were very knowledgeable, made very sure to explain the subject thoroughly, answered all questions thoroughly as well. They were very personable

Convenient, friendly, knowledgeable, timely.

Tailored to our needs given the time, actively suggesting optimal itinerary, incredibly knowledgeable of the culture, history, architecture and politics.

Tours by Locals was recommended by a friend who swears by them. Now I know why. The website is easy to use and provides detailed information on the various tours and the guides who lead them. The site also allows for direct communication to their guides for things like customization and meeting locations. I'm glad I have this resource to augment my travels.

We had a half day Gaudi tour in Barcelona with Cayetano. He was so very knowledgeable and able to keep all of us fully engaged. We enjoyed every minute of it. I would highly recommend you choose Cayetano for any Gaudi tour - he knows the man, his buildings and his life / plus all of the relevant history. A truly wonderful experience!

Gabriel was very knowledgeable and friendly. The van was very comfortable for six people. When we were finished, we felt like we’d made a new friend.

We had Alice as our guide while in China. She handled almost everything for our family of 5. China was our family’s 50 foreign county trip and we all agreed that Alice was by far the best guide we’ve ever had. Anyone who gets her is very lucky.

We had two wonderful days with Vivian as our guide. Prior to the trip we communicated often and worked out all the things we wanted to see. Vivian is very knowledgeable about the history of London. All of us appreciate Vivian’s canter. She picked out great lunch spots and prearranged our reservations in advance. Highly recommend Vivian, this is our second vacation using her and would request her again.

We had an amazing day on Capri thanks to our amazing guide Marianna!!! From the moment we stepped on to the island she had everything planned perfectly. From private Taxis to skip the line access to sights she made sure we had an amazing experience. She also recommended a great restaurant for lunch with a wonderful view and excellent food!!!

John is a fantastic guide and a ride in his vintage Belair is a treat. His crafts the perfect day based upon your wishes. Take a tour with him!

I could not have been happier with how things turned out for this tour, and for the other tours by locals that I took on this last trip. Having a tour guide that can really spend their time with me rather than with a crowd was a huge benefit. It allowed me to ask all the questions that I had and made the travel really comfortable and pleasant. I will definitely use them again.

Punctual. Personable. Knows the subject matter well enough to communicate it in a simple way and keep it interesting. A good person and true professional. Simply the best. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

Very knowledgeable about the history of Quebec. Also a very pleasant person.
