Very inefficient

Utterly disappointing experience
Utterly disappointing experience
What was supposed to be a pleasant, enjoyable and straightforward experience turned into a most disheartening one.
Three days ago, I upgraded my phone and purchased a brand-new phone, a smart watch connected with the device and a charger/plug, as it wasn’t included with the phone.
I had spent over three hours online with a Vodafone consultant, discussing different options, add-ons and going through lengthy security checks. I requested the phone to be delivered to the Vodafone shop so that they could transfer the data to a new device straight away, despite having to spend 1hour 20 minutes to get there.
I arrived at the shop at 18:00, greeted the manager with a smile and said that I was there to collect my phone – he did not say hello, smile or welcome me but simply waved in the direction of one of his staff members, which was not the welcome one would expect in a shop that represents a famous brand, or any shop for that matter.
There was one hour left before the closure. Logically, one would assume one hour was sufficient enough to collect the phone and have the data transferred. The female shop assistant who was rather unfriendly, inefficient and lacked basic customer service skills, started looking for my order. She did not ask for my home address or looked at my proof of address and passport that I had prepared and offered to show her; instead, she took my debit card and for some reason was trying to find the order based on the home address where I had lived 25 years ago without even asking me for my current address. She then said I did not pass security checks and stared at me as if I was an imposter, like David Walliams from Little Britain who said: ‘Computer says NO’. Only when I started being insistent that she looked harder, she discovered that she was checking the wrong address.
No apologies followed. After 50 minutes of her slow and inefficient checks, she said that the phone MIGHT be waiting upstairs, but the watch had been cancelled and the charger I had paid for was not there either.
The female assistant asked her manager for advice several times referring to me as ‘ …she says’ instead of ‘the customer says or Ms X says...’ which was rude, disrespectful and unprofessional.
Having wasted one hour of my time, I was told that there was no time to transfer the data from my phone to the new device, plus I wouldn’t be able to have my smart watch and a charger.
They suggested booking an appointment another day and pay £25 to transfer data.
Owing to the fact that I was treated disrespectfully and my custom was totally disregarded, despite purchasing a phone worth £1.5 grand with all the trimmings, I asked them to cancel the purchase and filed a complaint. The manager who logged the complaint was equally unfriendly, stern-faced and totally unwilling to find any compromise and at least offer to transfer data free of charge.
I was prepared to pay for the data transfer and suggested to the shop assistant that they start transferring the data earlier, while looking for the missing charger upstairs so that it could be done during my visit but she refused.
I was really shocked at such a sub-standard customer service and total lack of care, politeness and basic empathy and understanding, as both the manager and the shop assistant could not care less if I remained with Vodafone or took my custom elsewhere.
Because of this, I will be switching to a new mobile phone provider where they do not treat their customers like dirt.
