Gunroom good, cafe needs more privacy screening

Gunroom has good stock and knowledgeable staff. Ammunition prices are reasonable (the going rate).
The new building is good but only let down by the main central walkway going through & past the tables in the cafe, which makes is a little uncomfortable when trying to have a relaxing coffee and bite to eat with people constantly walking past. Some simple screening to separate the walkway from the dining area would make a huge difference to give people in the cafe more privacy.
Disappointed by the Latte, which was in a tiny glass cup and a bit over priced. If you're going to charge top end prices then it needs to be at least a decent sized cup. It's nice to go and shoot a few clays then have a social coffee afterwards, but the cafe is a bit pricey for just clay shooters wanting a relaxing brew. Maybe offer a more reasonably priced coffee-to-go in a disposable cup for shooters who just want to sit at an outside picnic bench? We would probably visit the clay ground more often if that was possible.

I would NOT recommend.

I stayed in the same lodge in 2019 for my 30th birthday and had a great time. The lodge, staff and facilities were great. Fast forward 6 years and I am deeply disappointed. The lodge was extremely dirty, smelled of damp dog. The carpets were filthy. The chairs on the decking were a health and safety hazard. I nearly went through one as it was soo rusted. There was rust inside on various handles. The oven was dirty. The bed was dirty and well used. The bathroom smelled damp and there was evidence of dampness on the wood panelling. Pillows smelled horrible. Light shade was missing. All the woodwork was delaminating. One of the outside lights wouldn't work. The hot tub was leaking chlorinated water into the pond. This was known to staff as they would regularly come round to top it up with the hot tap. I phoned to complain but the staff were very hesitant to agree that it was leaking, even when I clearly showed them the water coming out and into the pond.

Overall, it is clear that since the lodge was delivered and put into service, Westlands Country Park have not invested any money into the lodge and it is in serious need of a full renovation. I would avoid visiting here and spend your money somewhere else.

Take photos before and after you’re finished with your holiday!!!!!!

Where do I even start? This isn’t coming from someone who didn’t enjoy the holiday this is coming from somebody that had their £200 safety deposit taken unjustly, I have been lied to by the manager Jon.

We got there on the 18th of August 2025 and we stayed until Friday, the 22nd of August 2025, we went with our two lovely children under three for my daughter‘s birthday. We enjoyed the stay but had a few issues whilst staying here! First off the draw under the cooker was so heavy that when it opened it smacked down onto my shin, (too heavy with no catch) then we didn’t have one of the outdoor sofa cushions, no tv remote back cover so the batteries were exposed not safe for lodges that are ‘family friendly’ These were things that were brought up with the team at reception and they were noted. The night before we left me and my partner were sat watching TV when we noticed a shadowing effect appear on the screen, we got up to inspect the problem as we thought it could’ve just been a loose wire at the back.. upon touching the screen, we noticed that it was severely hot, so we unplugged it completely. The next morning we turned the TV back on and the shadowing was still there, so I took photos so that we could show the receptionist when we were checking out. These photos were shown to the receptionist and the problem was explained. When we got home, we went about our normal lives… then on 27th August Wednesday my partner said that the £200 had gone from his account and been taken, so we called them on the Wednesday, they said I was better speaking to the manager and he wasn’t available, so I called again Thursday the same thing happened apparently he was out fixing things (the irony!!) Friday I called again and he was out of office again apparently fixing things!!! They said he was in office on the Saturday so that’s when I called again.. FINALLY got through to the manager Jon, to which he told me that he did try to contact us so we checked this call and we did notice the one missed call and a 7 second voicemail had been left, with no explanation of why he was calling!!! Which Jon had stated he had explained the problem on the voicemail (he hadn’t) he told me that there was apparently indentation marks on the screen and had apparently took photos of this evidence - (I’ve since repeatedly asked for these on an email which has been ignored!) despite me emailing multiple times trying to get my money back, because we didn’t break the tv we believe it was wear and tear as you can see from my photos that I will include. I inspected the TV before leaving and there wasn’t anything there! I’ve sent all of my evidence including the voicemail.
Jon basically told me that he tried to call multiple times to speak to us before taking the money, he called ONCE. I’ve expressed that I can also get evidence to prove to him of only one call from my phone network if he wants to keep lying about all the steps he had taken before taking our money!! They’ve given us NO CHANCE to talk, I haven’t had any email explaining the reason for the money being taken (as stated from one of his reception) they have stolen our £200 deposit. He is blatantly ignoring me now because I’ve shown him every little bit of evidence I had that there wasn’t an issue with any impact damage, the voicemail, the photos and he can’t even give me his evidence that he supposedly has. This has fraudulently been taken and I’m appalled to say the least!! We paid £783.42 for our 4 nights stay PLUS £200 deposit. I think they should be ashamed of themselves for their customer service & NO EVIDENCE BASED LIES. I’ve waited weeks and given Jon many many chances to email me back.

Please be careful when staying here - TAKE PHOTOS WHEN YOU GET THERE & WHEN YOU LEAVE. Absolutely shocking customer service. This in turn has ruined our family holiday. We will not be booking again.

this hot tub lodge country park is 5 star ⭐

we have just returned from our Monday to Friday break in Stargazer Pod number 2 which was very high quality and pet friendly with hot tub which we spent lots of time in as the weather was fantastic during our stay

this place has real 5 star wow factor and is easily the best hot tub lodge park we have ever been to with great quality onsite restaurant with a huge amount of super high quality outside seating area with the magnificent and magical peacocks who are always close by and friendly staff too

it has a fantastic choice of hot tub lodges , many of which overlook the lake which is the home to many families of ducks with their ducklings who can easily be on the grassy areas of the lakeside lodges at all times of the day and night which is a beautiful thing to see with your own eyes in a very peaceful setting

the whole place is set in a forest area , the gravel roads and , grounds and grass areas are well maintained , amazing lakeside views , incredible wildlife eco systems and plenty of dog bins

all in all this is a magical place that has something for everyone and we will be rebooking to come here many times in the future as we loved every minute of our stay

if you book a stay here you will not regret it

keep up the amazing work as this park is magical xx

quiet relaxing break

Park itself was very quiet, but nice to relax for the weekend. We stayed as a family group over 2 lodge - Stargazer, Lakeside, Savannah. All had the private hot tub and were very well equipped with crockery etc. The hot tub in the Savannah wasn't the best, the lights didn't work and the jets weren't great. We reported it and they came round to sort it and told us it was fixed, but it wasn't much better compared to the other hot tubs.

The guys fromthe group went and done they clay pigeon on the sunday afternoon which they really enjoyed. My son who is 15 was also allowed to take part. It was approx £50pp and they felt well worth the money.

the one gripe i have is that one of our party had an accident in the lodge resulting in the ceramic hob being broken (they were washing dished and tried to move a multipack of cans of coke out of the way to the other side of the worktop and because their hand was wet, it slipped out of their grip and they dropped it on top of the hob resulting in it breaking). I called reception right away but as it was a Sunday at 18:06 i had just missed them so i called the out of hours no to advise. They said they would notify reception to discuss in the morning when we were checking out. This wasn't done because upon checkout i had to explain to the guy what had happened and he was pretty rude about it, he made us feel like we had done something terrible and on purpose!! We were told they would need to look at it and call us - they did 2 days later to advise they would be keeping the security deposit of £200 and, to be honest, the guys attitude wasn't much better than at checkout! The lodges were left in the exact condition we received them apart from this so i feel like they could have used their discretion about the deposit, but then they would argue that's what the deposit was paid for i guess.

Overall, i would recommend the site to anyone looking for a chilled out time. My family have already booked again to return later in the year.

exceptional quality

I ordered a variety of micro greens for a michelin style Christmas starter (variety of amuse bouche starters). The delivery was superb, on time and the quality of the greens were exceptional and full of flavour. Highly recommend.

I would rate this Park as a 1 Star…

I would rate this Park as a 1 Star establishment as ir is ran by staff who have ZERO Customer care skills.

The park itself is built on marshy ground so if you have to venture of the gravel road you'll quickly find your footwear muddy.

The relentless noise from the nearby shooting area isn't dampened in any way...and is there from early morning until evening.

The accommodation provided us was adequate but dirty...crisp packed and other items under furniture and crisps on bed settee under cushions.

Worktop damaged and decking damaged close to the Hot Tub.

Hot tub lid not ready to when we arrived as the bar wasn't in position and it was leaking from the drain plug. Strapping also torn.

The fabric on one of the two seats provided on the balcony area (overlooking the road) was ready to tear.

No Welcome Box for our dog...as listed in the General Information Booklet...which is held together by pvc tape.

I called at reception on one occasion and had to wait while the staff members rudely finished their conversation.

All in all...a very disappointing stay.
