great instructors and good facilities. whats not to like?

I have been a long time customer with 1Rebel and trained at the St Mary Axe, Southwark, Broadgate and Victoria branches before. Always welcomed with a smile and clearly busy clubs.

Most recently started to train at High Street Kensington, smaller club and clearly much less visitors. I have been earlier and/or hanging around, and clearly it is not busy.

But on 2 occasions I have been in situations where many phone calls never get answered, or I will send an email to the club - and I will receive an answer 2 days later? Canceled my membership as well, never received confirmations (even after another follow up mail).

I must say, for not being that busy - the lack of customer service and friendlyness has been a disaster. And honestly, has left me as a long time customer, becoming a little estranged and turned down. And that is coming from a person who always has promoted the brand and classes to many people before, but the approach of this club is far below all the other locations.

Fun, good pace, perfect blend of body parts to invigorate and create length. Rebel reformer 3x week is absolutely an essential.

Thought the instructors and vibes of the classes were great.

However my reformer broke once in one of my classes and my treadmill broke during reshape - could do with maintaining the equipment better.

Urgh. Heartbroken to write this as it was my favourite gym. They desperately need to sort out their super opaque charges and brutal customer service policies which lets an otherwise great offering down - I have previously written a 5 star rave review (and talked many others into joining me here as an evangelist) before seeing what the others were talking about.

I will spare you the details, but an unclearly communicated policy resulted in a charge, and honestly just the whole approach has made what was once my go-to place and hobby (I'm a long term unlimited member) feel like somewhere I no longer feel comfortable heading.

I'm now stuck between great instructors and horrible management, and am still undecided on what to do. Might be time to return to yoga and bodypump.

£12 for socks that I will not use again!! I understand you need grip socks and i understand you put it in the email however i didn't see it. And yes i understand this is branding however, I don't wear the style of socks. In addition for £12 I would expect better quality, I found them to be non absorbent, thus full of polyester. Very unhappy with that.
Separately, change rooms are finally big enough and thoughtfully laid out with hair-dryers away from the lockers and showers. The lockers are GREAT, super spacious with compartments. Showers are huge and there are plenty of them, still a que at peak class times but you can tell Rebel have tried to stagger class times to minimise this. Nice products in the showers too. Shower heads are 'trendy' but inefficient.
Studio: reformer beds are super close together and showing wear and tear - some of them could do with replacement padding on the carriages or foot plate. Pumping music, lighting, very effective. Instructors are knowledgeable.
Holborn is very spacious which is a plus, haven't been to the others yet but i presume this will be a theme of Rebel.
Good intro cost, but wouldn't splash out on a membership - this is a luxury service. Gyms shouldn't be a luxury - everyone needs access to the variety of exercise options available.

The energy and enthusiasm very nice experience.

Great alternative to Barry's Bootcamp, water is provided free of charge, protein shakes are cheaper and better, the classes are on a par, with a range of options.

Amazing experience, great trainers. Hands down best spin class I have ever taken.

Reformer is brilliant. The time flies by and the facilities are gorgeous. Price is high but quality is too.

Horrible Horrible Place!!!! I know several instances where people were unknowingly and unwillingly charged by 1Rebel. My experience was really unfair - I signed up to 10 sessions package - and payed for it with my card. Next day I had the same exact amount taken off my card again. I went in to talk to the stuff about it - they said "You probably didn't have money on your card', meaning that my card didn't go through the first time, so they charged me the second time. Except that was a lie since I specifically put the right amount of money on my card to pay for this package. When I showed them prove that money did go through - they didn't even apologise. It's been 4 months, I have been calling, coming in person, demanding my money back - still nothing. Be careful when you trust 1Rebel with your card details - they might take unfair advantage of them and you will regret this and you will NEVER get your money back.

Without my awareness and confirmation continuously got charged money by this company for no reason at all. Think twice when providing them with your card details before you get illegally charged.

Misleading, unfair and possibly fraudulent

Do NOT trust 1Rebel. My experience as a 19-year-old student was a nightmare - and I want to warn others before they lose hundreds like I did.

- In November 2024, I joined 1Rebel after being told I could buy 10 sessions for £144 - with no mention of a long-term contract. I followed the instructions and paid. I attended 6 sessions and that should have been the end of it.

- In March 2025, I bought a further 10 sessions for £220. Then, without any authorisation, 1Rebel charged that card £144 four times - a total of £720 in just two days - for a '12-month contract' that I was never told about, that I never agreed to and that I never signed.

- When I complained in person I was told I was supposedly entering into a 12 month contract - something I never saw, signed or agreed to. We were never notified in advance of the recurring charges and they charged a completely different card to the one used for the original purchase.

What is happening now?
It has been almost 4 months and I still have not received my money back. There has been 1 phone call and 12 emails between me and 1Rebel and still no resolution. No refund and no compensation.

All my complaints against 1Rebel have been either ignored or misrepresented:

- I claimed it was against the Consumer Rights Act to make bulk transactions if the transactions were to be made monthly - 1Rebel said it was probably because my card was not working during those months (my card was working, it is the only card I use in my day to day life)

- I claimed that when I purchased what I didn't know was a membership there was no warning about the cancellation policy and refund policy. - 1Rebel sent me screenshots claiming there were warnings about the policy, I went on my phone, my laptop, through the website and the app to check if this was true and it was not, STILL there were no warnings.

- I was told I shouldn't have any questions as it was all in the T&Cs. - The only time I saw these T&Cs was when I created a 1Rebel account... in 2023!!!!!!! If you are forcing people to sign a contract for 12 months you should at least have some warning that it is a trap and you can't cancel until the contract is fulfilled.

I am still trying to fight for justice and my rights... Avoid 1Rebel at all costs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
They trap customers in hidden contracts, charge unauthorised fees, and ignore your rights. There are much better, more ethical fitness providers in London.

I have heard a lot of similar cases lately and am now collecting them to prepare a class action lawsuit and complaint to the consumer protection regulators. If you have encountered such violations, please comment on this review and together we will retain our rights and demand compensation.

I hadn’t stepped foot inside a class like Reshape (HIIT with treadmills and weights) before a year ago, and now I’m a regular at 1Rebel and my fitness is transformed. I go to Reshape at least once a week, and to reformer when I can. I love the classes - the energy you get from the music and lights, along with the enthusiastic and well-prepared trainers is unparalleled. The changing facilities and small details like the chilled face towels also really make you feel like you’re getting value for money. Although I mostly go to Angel, the flexibility of being able to go to multiple locations is also fantastic as I get the same quality experience no matter which studio I go to.

Great experience! Reformer Pilates in 1Rebel is top notch and the best that I’ve had over the years in various studios!

Reformer: Each teacher is different in terms of their schedule for the class and what you train with them, but they're all super friendly, helpful and know what they're doing. Depending on your preferences, some classes are thus easier and some harder. love it!

Overall great experience and classes. Sometimes changing rooms aren’t SUPER clean and some staff at the till can be a bit unfriendly.
