Cheap mass produced rubbish products
Do not buy from this website. Mass produced rubbish sold as as handmade artisan products. They will happily ask you to send the dodgy product back to Hong Kong at your own expense or offer you a 25% refund if you don't want to do that. Avoid
Trust your gut - FAKE!!
The other review is 100% accurate: this is a scammy website with fake stories. The one I fell for was a grandmother hand carving Halloween figurines out of polymer clay, unique, adorable, etc. What I got was pieces made from rubber, and clearly factory made, as they had a seam running around it.
Their return policy states that they have a 30 day, no questions asked, guarantee. I contacted the day I got it, and they said I would have to pay for shipping it back to Hong Kong, if I wanted a full refund, otherwise I would only get a 35% refund. We went back and forth, each time their "final offer" a little higher than the last. I quoted their return policy, I told them they sold me a fake item, etc etc, but they wouldn't budge after 60%. So we'll see if they even send the refund back. I should have used a credit card so I could do a charge back. This junk is going straight to the trash.
DO NOT GO NEAR THIS BUSINESS
DO NOT GO NEAR THIS BUSINESS
ai generated false and misleading stories created about old men no longer able to continue hand making their *insert name of animal* habitat boxes.
What you receive weeks later is a shitty pine mass produced rubbish item only fit for the bin.
Scam..avoid
Want to give it zero stars. Ordered items today but no email confirmation came. Got a feeling it was a scam then saw the reviews here and reported to bank. They agreed. Advised to log card as stolen so details can't be used again or sold on. Feel like a sucker!
False advertising
False advertising. The bee hotel is not the one being made in South Australia. It is shipped from China. Ordered 21 September. Shipped 8 October.
Total scam
Total scam. Has been 10 working days and no product has arrived. To track order you have to download an app called SHOP which you should not do - read those reviews - and I have wasted my money buying some most likely cheap tut, that's if it ever arrives. AVOID !
Fraud by false representation
Fraud by false representation. The company behind Backroad Goods is Ecomcloud Trading LLP in London, although their address is shared by over 400 other companies. Therefore a useless mailing address.
The directors of Ecomcloud are registered in Hong Kong.
Backroad have a catalogue of goods, which are all cheaply made Chinese rubbish. A current advert is the rain drum, supposedly made by Nell Ashcroft in Staveley, which is a blatant lie. She does not exist and nor does her so called forge.
This is fraud by false representation.
Oh my god
Oh my god. I was just about to purchase Nells hand forged steel pentameter musical metal garden object, having read that poor old Nells hands no longer allowed her to forge the metal so she was selling what was left. I saw the photo of her, saw the forge where she had worked and was placing my order. Then, just as was about to click the PAY button, I thought hang on, let me verify this is legit. On to Trustpilot and whoa! Absolutely scam. Thank you to all those in UK who put their reviews on. Thank you thank you thank you
My hedgehog house has not turned up ……
My hedgehog house has not turned up … omg I can’t believe I fell for the scam website……the world is full of deceitful lying dishonest people …..
Awful customer service!!!
Received product (4 bags of parts) and no instructions. Have repeatedly sent emails for help and their phone number does not go through. Guess I will stop payment on my card. Very disappointing!
Backroad Goods is definitely a scam
Backroad Goods is definitely a scam .
October 2026
I fell for the fake sob story of Dulcie’s hand made Butterfly houses . Her husband started the business in Australia in their back shed to save butterflies from extinction.
After Dulcie’s husband passed away she decided to continue handcrafting these beautiful pieces until she was unable to keep the dream alive . 🎻🎻🎻
Unfortunately I fell for the scam , thought I was helping Australian businesses, bought three at reduced price of $53.00 ea. I received only two cheap pine roughly thrown together houses which looked nothing like the original hand-crafted items in the advertisement. Very disappointed , stay away from anything that looks and sounds too good to be true.
Warning ⚠️
Who knows if this cheap wood is even allowed into our beautiful country 🇦🇺🦋

If I could not give any stars I would
If I could not give any stars I would! I have been waiting for a £90 hedgehog house for weeks and can’t even get in touch with Backroad goods!! Needless to say I will be writing about this on Facebook!!
Hedgehog House…
I ordered a hand crafted Hedgehog House supposedly made in Devon. Delivery should have been between 3-5 days. After a week I checked the tracking which said it was on it's way. I looked further into the company. It's based in Hong Kong! The website and tracking number have now disappeared. Obviously a scam!! I contacted my bank, they are in the process of trying to get a refund. I also saw another ad for the same item, this time hand crafted in Yorkshire.
Took my money it is a scam
Took my money it is a scam. The order no longer exists. Keep well away.
Goods advertised on website are not Artisan nor made where they supposedly are
Goods advertised on website are not Artisan, assuming they arrive. The bee house is the same whether it is made in the Adelaide Hills South Australia or Worcestershire UK. When you look closer at the supposed makers image, they are the same. Goods allegedly coming to you, but no record of tracking number with carrier. If I could give negative stars I would. Do not part with money, warn others
Purchased the rain drum.
Purchased the rain drum.
It is not hand made, It is a cheap Chinese knock off toy.
comes in a cheap box with instruction that say not to be used in the rain.
They offered about a $15 refund, and the return of the item needs to be sent a your cost.
Its a massive scam. I told them where to go and the gift I had intended to give connot be used, too embarrassing. will give it to a toddler to play with.
Absolute scam
Absolute scam. The product delivered (a bee hotel) is NOT what was advertised. It is made of pine, not cedar. The hollows are not "glass smooth"- they are extremely and obviously rough with sharp shards. The tunnels are all the same size, not a range of sizes. The roof is not "solid copper', it is a copper ridge cap.
When I inquired about returning the item, I was informed I would have to return it to Hong Kong so obviously this did not come "off the shelf of a artisan in the Adelaide Hills"
Do NOT buy this product.
These Bee Hotels are extremely poor quality
Keith's Bee Hotels are definitely not as described on the website.
We ordered multiple Bee Hotels and we're extremely disappointed with all 4 items delivered.
They are definitely not the same as the product described on the website:
1. Western Red Cedar - no, looks and smells like Treated Pine;
2. Dimensions are supposed to be 20 x 18 x 20cm - no, they're 16 x 15 x 16cm;
3. Copper roof, photos appear that the whole roof is copper - no, only a thin copper strip on the ridge;
4. Bore diameters are claimed to be 2.5 to 9.5mm - no, they're all around the same size 7-8mm;
5. Bore finish is claimed to be "Hand dressed mirror finish" - no, many holes have very rough raw unsmoothed edges; and
6. Instructions included- no instructions in any of the 4 boxes or packages.
Extremely disappointing and annoying that the products supplied are not as described, nor we believe, fit for purpose.
Scam!!!!
Am only giving a 1* because I have to. If I could, it would be -5! This company is fraudulent and uses stories on Google to lure you into believing you are purchasing authentic handmade goods within Australia but are actually mass produced and sent from Hong Kong, using a 3rd party dropship company here in Australia. Website clearly states 30 day 100% money back guarantee with no return postage, items packaged and shipped from Australia, and communications by the person mentioned in the story (or their associate), yet once I discovered I'd been scammed, I told them I wanted a refund and was advised I had to return the package 'unopened', pay the return postage back to a Hong Kong address that I had to ask for (after being told the return address on was on their website - which it isn't) and that they would only refund me 35% of the purchase price. I've still not actually received the items, the tracking number is questionable, and I've contacted my bank to reclaim the money I have paid for these fraudulent items. I've also contacted Office of Fair Trading but due to this 'business' being overseas they are unable to help. Will be reporting to Scam Watch and also to the International Arm of the ACCC. I strongly suggest you all do the same.
Deceptive advertising
What I thought I was purchasing were quality, hand-made native-bee houses, made in Australia, and therefore not needing to be fumigated like imported timber products. What I received were made in China and were, frankly, cheap rubbish which could have been purchased from Temu at a much lower price. They did not even closely resemble the advertised product. DO NOT BUY FROM THIS SELLER.
