More Than an Oil Change — This is How Local Business Should Be Done

I came in for a routine oil change and regular maintenance — first time at this Cedar Falls, Iowa location — and I have to say, I was genuinely impressed from the moment I walked through the door.

Let me start with Lee at the front desk, because he absolutely deserves to be called out by name. This guy is a rockstar. While I was standing there, the phone was ringing almost every five minutes — customers calling to schedule appointments — and Lee was handling every single call with professionalism and a calm, friendly demeanor, all while simultaneously checking in a customer at the counter who was dropping off their keys. No fumbling, no frustration, no dropped balls. He managed it all like it was second nature. It's rare to see someone that composed and competent in a customer-facing role, and it did not go unnoticed.

But here's what really sealed the deal for me. While I was waiting, I watched the staff — and what I believe was the owner or GM — go completely out of their way to warmly welcome an 84-year-old woman who came in with her dog. Apparently she visits nearly every day, or at least every week. And the way they treated her? With genuine warmth, respect, and joy — like she was family. Nobody put on a show for her. You could just tell this is simply who these people are.

That right there tells you everything you need to know about the character of the people running this place.

I'll be honest — I usually go elsewhere for my oil changes. But not anymore. If you're local to Cedar Falls, do yourself a favor and give these folks your business. You won't regret it. And when you walk in, ask for Lee. You'll see exactly what I'm talking about.

We already had an estimate from another…

We already had an estimate from another nationwide chain. We didn’t feel right about it so we made an appointment for the free brake inspection and alignment check. We were correct. One of the stated repairs was not necessary. We got only the work done that was needed and saved a lot of money. Everyone is friendly, helpful and knowledgeable .

Expensive Estimate for Basic A/C Hose Replacement

Went in for an A/C inspection because a day earlier it was working fine and blowing cold. BP did the dye test and found High Pressure Discharge Hose to have a leak at connection point. Disappointed that the technician suggested that I also replace the compressor and condenser. I asked why and he said it was recommended and that was his only explanation. I understand the A/C working parts, but I feel sorry for the unsuspecting consumer who is depending on their knowledge. A very costly repair for no apparent reason, I declined. The BP estimate to replace the hose was $1,195.99. I went elsewhere and received an invoice for $532.00, and my A/C blows cold and perfect. I do not like car service companies to try to find something wrong. I paid $99 for a dye test, nothing else was checked at BP. The part that needed replacement was estimated at $400 by BP and my cost for the exact part was $111. Big mark up on parts and labor at BP. They didn't even apply my $20 coupon I presented when scheduled online. Got to be competitive and consumer oriented.

Fast service

Fast service, cooperative staff and better prices. This was my second experience with them, i was satisfied by how fast they got my car fixed and they have better prices as well. I would highly recommend checking them out.

I am just amazed with the…

I am just amazed with the professionalism at Brakes Plus. I had thought I had a brake problem. The tech, Yoshi, found out that in my visit to get a trailer wiring issue done, the mechanic set the parking brake just enough for it to drag. I was not charged a single penny for them to check out and find my issues. Boy, I will definitely be a customer of there from now on!

No longer providing good customer service

My experience has not been good on a couple of occasions now. It used to be great but not anymore. I made an appointment for an oils change for both of my vehicles. As I work full time, I took off to have this work done. I showed up in time for my appointment. They said it would take an hour maybe an hour and a half at the most. I waited and waited and got no update. I finally went in and they hadn’t even started on my car after 2 1/2 hours this messed up my entire day and the schedule that I put together. This is the second time that this has happened to me and I find it extremely irritating that I make an appointment yet they people who walk in get put in before me. There is no explanation other than I’m sorry. Well this business has lost my business and I’m taking my business elsewhere going forward. I’m not sure what the point of making an appointment is when they take people who come in at who don’t have one before you.

Kelly was great

Kelly was great! My appointment started right on time and they fixed some major issues on my 2003 Subaru in one day. She explained everything, sometimes twice and kept me posted about my wait time. Great Service and Customer Service!

Safety should come first.

I went to this place in Dec25 to get my brakes and rotors done. Paid almost 543.75 After a month I noticed grinding and squealing. I found out after I went back under my warranty that they turned them and really needed new ones , but the best they could do was save whats cheaper. Then thre lady in charge working there told me the back one on drivers side need done ASAP and it costed me 376.87more dollars. I drive 30 miles to work daily and 30 miles back home. I felt the work was not done properly the first and now second time. I had to go to an individual mechanic and got it done right. Im highly dissapointed at this company after paying out over 800 dollars and still not caring about my safety.

Cheyenne Wyoming

Took my truck in due to spongey brakes and asked explicitly for a brake inspection and for them to be bled along with an alignment. I get called and told they needed to flush the fluid to get rid of the spongey feeling. When I get my truck back, there was no change in the feeling of the brakes. Spongey, had to increase stopping distance by 30yrds, lugnuts cranked down way too tight for an aluminum wheel, and yesterday 3/20, I finally tracked down the problem to air in my brake lines that is AUDIBLE when applying pressure to the brake pedal. After a small bottle of brake fluid and an hour of bleeding the brakes I managed to get the brakes to be more responsive.

I stopped into Brakes Plus on Indian…

I stopped into Brakes Plus on Indian School in Buckeye because my tire went flat coming out of the parking lot of Frys. I figured from the name they did not repair tires but thought I would ask. When I entered, Rose, was a breath of fresh air. She was kind and caring. She asked her manager, David, if they could rotate my tire with the 5th tire so that I could make it to work. David was so kind to fix my tire free of charge. I highly recommend Brakes Plus for their customer service.

Amazing Customer Service

I am visiting Surprise AZ, when suddenly, my oil light came on. My usual mechanic is 800 miles away, but I didn't think it wise to wait, so I pulled into the Brakes Plus on Prasada Parkway. I had no appointment and am basically clueless about engines. The service advisor, David, was amazing. Not only did he make time to check out my concern, he immediately diagnosed the problem and gave me solid recommendations on how to get back on the road to get home. If I lived in Surprise, this would be my "go to" car maintenance shop! Kudos.

HONEST

HONEST! Excellent customer service(Brigette the manager as well as the techs), very quick and helpful. I highly recommend this location and will be returning for all my auto needs! So happy to have somewhere dependable to go to!

Great service and quick repair!

My Lexus GX470 had a wheel bearing and front brakes go out last Friday afternoon, and the Brakes Plus location in Boulder on Arapahoe diagnosed and repaired the issue by Monday morning. They did a fantastic job, in a short amount of time, which really helped me out. They also did a spot on job with the front tire alignment. The staff was very helpful and friendly. Bruce Queen

In the past I have left reviews stating…

In the past I have left reviews stating how good this service was. The issue keeps occuring and they have no warranty so again, pay more money and just smile and nod. Not anymore, not for me. I found a amazing auto shop that fixed my car faster than Brakes plus and gave a warranty. Isn't that what we all want. If they will warranty their work, they must beleive what they are doing.

I called BP and spoke to Nick at the…

I called BP and spoke to Nick at the OKC N May location and he was able to get me in and replaced my spark plugs and did a fuel injection service on my 2013 Kia Optima. EXTREMELY PLEASED with how he took care of me! He gave me great advice on what to expect with after care with my vehicle.

Saved the Day!

Had an emergency and had to stop by on my way out of town because I went to a competitor 30 minutes before for a quick oil change and on 287 we started hearing metal grinding. Exited straight to Brakes Plus Haslet TX and they found my under carriage hanging off my car. They were able to see that the competitor did not secure it back, did not make sure the oil under my car was wiped clean and had to wipe down the underside of my car. Thank God for these people who helped me in my time of stress when I was trying to get out of town. Because of these kind people my vacation started out with peace and knowing my car is NOW ready for vacation. And to make it worse, the competitor charged me $40 more for an oil change than Brakes Plus would have charged me. I WILL BE BACK for my next oil change. Thank you again for saving my car and my peace of mind!! You guys are the BEST! Shout out to Alicia who looked up a Brakes Plus near me in Euless, for my next oil change.
