I contacted a locksmith advertising in Lewisham
I contacted a locksmith advertising in Lewisham, but the operative who attended was from BS Security Maintenance Limited, which was not clearly disclosed.
The door is a simple wooden door. On previous occasions, when the deadlock was not engaged, it was opened without damage using a locksmith card. On my insistence , the locksmith briefly attempted this before stating the lock had to be drilled, without providing a sufficient explanation.
The locksmith was rude and dismissive. The price originally quoted was increased on arrival, and I was charged £252 including VAT without an itemised invoice. The old lock was discarded outside the property, and the replacement lock fitted is loose and poorly installed.
If zero stars were possible, that’s what I would give
I originally called a number listed for Delta Locksmiths, but I was unexpectedly contacted back by someone from BS Security using a completely different phone number. No pricing or call‑out fee was disclosed before the locksmith arrived, even though I asked.
After the job, I was suddenly charged a £59.99 call‑out fee plus VAT, none of which had been mentioned beforehand. The total came to £165.60. When I tried to question the charge, my WhatsApp messages and phone calls were ignored. The merchant name on the card transaction didn’t even match the company I thought I was dealing with.
My experience felt misleading, confusing, and completely lacking transparency. Based on what happened, I would strongly advise others to be extremely cautious.
Serial locksmith fraud — drilled lock, charged £273, door left unsecured
Called Larry & Sons Lockout (020 3962 1456) and was quoted £49 callout. An operative trading as BS Security Maintenance Ltd attended and issued Invoice (Co. No. 15170909). Without attempting any non-destructive entry, he immediately drilled a standard Asec rim cylinder, then used high-pressure tactics on the lone occupant — quoting £170 + VAT for entry plus £600 for a replacement lock, demanding approximately £1,000 total, refusing to leave until paid. £273.84 was handed over under duress. He left without fitting a replacement lock; door has a hole and no working cylinder. The Asec cylinder drilled retails for £15–£25. Director Bogdan-Florin Stoica also directed Avatar Locksmiths Ltd (dissolved), Trusted Locksmith 247 Ltd (dissolved), and All Time Locksmiths London Ltd (11828842 — active strike-off proposal, Companies House objection ref OBJ-4053-184A-8167). Reported to Action Fraud (crime reference held), Trading Standards, MLA, and Companies House.
New door and frame price charged for fixing a broken gearbox.
The gearbox broke on my door after I had locked it, resulting in the door staying closed after I unlocked it, leaving me unable to access my house. The lock itself still worked perfectly. It happened on a weekday.
I found an advert online using a search engine. The advert’s headline stated: ‘family owned locksmiths near you’. This instilled confidence that I would not be ripped off. The advert made no mention of the locksmith’s connection with BS Security Maintenance Ltd and I only became aware of the connection when, on completion of the work, the locksmith issued the invoice which was in BS Security’s name.
I called the number just after 5pm. During the call I asked the locksmith for a ‘ballpark figure’ for what I might expect the cost to be. I was told this could not be done until he was at my house. I do not believe that this was the person who then showed up at my house and that they were in fact manning a nationwide call centre connected to the mobile number in the advertisement.
The locksmith arrived in a private car at around 5:30pm. He stayed for less than 90 minutes, having left shortly before 7pm. In this short time he drilled the lock, effected entry into the house (with minor cosmetic damage to the door) and replaced the lock, gearbox and door handle. None of the parts he installed came out of boxes/packages (they were all in his toolbox, or ‘found’ in his car) and I am not even certain the gearbox is a new component as he took my old gearbox with him (unknown to me until after he had left), but leaving the drilled lock and old door handle. Is my replacement gearbox a reconditioned one, sold as new? I was offered a choice of locks, choosing the ‘mid price’ one of £350 plus VAT. The ‘cheapest’ one was around £250.
The locksmith did state the price of each aspect of the job upfront (opening the door, installing the replacement parts, and the cost of the parts themselves) to gain my agreement, but he knew I was ‘over a barrel’ and had no choice other than to agree to the cost, or pay the call out charge and still be shut out of my house, or pay the call out and for the door to be opened, and then have the door insecure.
On completion of the job I was changed the astronomical price of over one thousand, six hundred pounds. I could have had a new door and frame for that price. The invoice did not state the make or price of the installed components, and the locksmith did not identify himself on it.
I felt he then pressed me into making payment ‘as quickly as possible’, and he was gone immediately after my card payment was cleared. I did not receive a receipt for the card payment and I have no identifying packages or literature for any of the installed components.
The locksmith was not rude or aggressive but clearly wanted to ‘get out of here’ as soon as he could. He was constantly rushing the job and at times had an air of frustration about him.
I wish I had smashed a window to gain entry to my house and fixed the door under less pressure of time, using my other door in the interim period. I now at all times carry keys to both doors, having learned a harsh and expensive lesson about limited options when one has keys to only one door.
Sadly this expensive experience has made me distrust tradespeople.
My wife was locked out
My wife was locked out, stressful week etc. New to the area, used google and came up as website appearing to be local. Absolutely no sign of 'BS Security Maintenance Limited' anywhere on the website. One thing in their favour is they turned up quickly, but then the scam took over. Drilled and destroyed a very nice lock without any actual locksmith effort, then replaced with a cheap alternative. Whilst my wife was in floods of tears, charged her £750 after a 'discount'. Whilst it'll take time I'm sure, what goes around should hopefully come around for this lot. Have reported via citizens advice/trading standards for now and will see where they take it.

The locksmith was not honest abput the price. He drilled through the door and damaged the paintwork. He fixed a new lock and charged £2,068.80. It was a complete rip off, but we couldn't get into the house. We should have called another locksmith.
I got scammed too
I got scammed too, the same as others. Had booked a locksmith via local company, and these people turned up. I was very clear on quote, ahead. Final bill NOT what was quoted...hugely higher, and I'm not even sure that the lock needed replacing. How in gods name do you find a decent locksmith, when you call your local furm and someone completely different turns up to cheat you.
UPDATE: To update on this, I now find that even the supposed local firm was a false front...the premises did not exist but was a McDonalds. It was just a lure to bring people in, even appearing on Google maps and having numerous google reviews, and with its own website - obviouly all false. I really thought I was immune to scams but this caught me☹️. I suspect now (and from some more research) that a legitimate locksmith could just have got the stuck key out not started out drilling.
THIS COMPANY PREY ON VULNERABLE PEOPLE
My mother, who is elderly and disabled, got locked out of her house when her key got jammed in the lock. She googled a locksmith, clicked on 'yourlocallockmsith.co.uk' and this company came up but under the name delta-locksmiths.co.uk (their invoice was in the name BS Security Maintenance Limited). Someone arrived half an hour later in a van with a logo and wearing a black T-shirt saying 'Locksmith'. He did not offer any ID. He gave my mother 3 security lock options to choose from: low, medium or high security. He told her that the medium option would be around £1000. I am unsure whether he attempted to remove the key but I know that, two hours later, my mother had a Yale lock as a replacement for her sturdy mortice lock, a door full of shoddily applied filler and a bill for just under £4000. She was alone with no-one around and felt she had no choice but to pay. We now have to look into getting the door repaired and another lock put on. I am posting this review because I would hate for this to happen to anyone else's elderly parent.
Extremely dishonest, drastically raise price after job is done.
I got locked out of my house. Called this locksmith. They quoted half an hour to arrive but took around 6 hours. So I sat out in the cold all day waiting for him to arrive as I expected him to be there soon. Every time I called to ask where he was he'd say "just another hour" or "just another 20 minutes," in the end took 6 hours. If he'd been honest about the wait time from the start I could have gone somewhere warm to wait but as he kept making me expect him any moment I had to sit outside the house in the cold and rain.
When he finally arrived, I told him I wanted the cheapest option of getting into my house. He said he could change the cylinder for £100, and any additional keys would be £20. I accepted this and asked for 2 extra keys. He made it sound like this would be the total price. After the work was done (badly, the new lock is very stiff and you have to turn the key round and round like crazy to get it to open) he then said the total price was actually £480 - FOUR times what was originally quoted. He said this was for call out, labour and VAT. I paid as I was put on the spot but if he'd been honest about the cost from the start I would never have gone through with this.
I have emailed them to complain but haven't received a response yet, I will update when I do.
2 barrels changed £1200
2 barrels changed, billed £1200!!!! £40 per key. Got another company to have a look, they replaced them, charge £120, with call out charge and all the keys. Avoid at all cost!
Estimated £49 plus lock when they came…
Estimated £49 plus lock when they came they said £315. I refused to pay and they charged £59 call out fee. I called another company and they came and fitted the lock for £120. What a rip off merchant
STAY AWAY!!!
STAY AWAY!!!! ABSOLUTE SCAMMERS
I have been charged £600 at 11:00 on a week day … they only discussed the lock amount of £145 but charged me £600 … now I have to deal with trading standards and the locksmith federation
PLEASE DO NOT BE CAUGHT BY THESE PEOPLE
Quoted £125 for call out
Quoted £125 for call out. As soon as he got there he upped the price and charged me £37 per drill bit four times! Was in in about 5 minutes. Total bill £513. He took advantage of my situation and I feel stupid for letting him.
These people should be in jail
These people should be in jail, you only have to read all the one star reviews. My story, so much the same as other reviews. I am an 82 yr old widow, disabled, my front door wouldn’t unlock, I called what I thought was a local locksmith, called RAPID LOCK LOCKSMITHS, Winscombe, just a stones throw from my home. I was told over the phone £45 call out, I was desperate and didn’t feel safe so agreed for the guy to come round. He was pleasant enough, Romanian. Started to work on my door, same as other stories, first I needed all the gear unit, then a new lock barrel, and so it went on, I had no choice but to agree, being on my own and with by then I door I couldn’t close. I got presented with a bill for £640, after I recovered from the shock I asked for a discount, he reduced it by £20 L.O.L. so I paid £620. TODAY, it all jammed up again (panic), I couldn’t pay out that sort of money again 🤬. I phoned the same guy, someone very rude answered and told me the engineer would ring me back, by this time I had checked some details and found out he came under the BS security scammers (they are using other companies to operate under) the guy did ring me back and informed me he would contact BS ( we all know what BS means 💩) thankfully by the grace of God , a friend had turned up and had a look at the lock, then managed to fix it, he said there was a screw loose on the lock barrel and he didn’t think the gear system had been changed. Don’t mess with me BS, I might be old but I ain’t stupid. Just another point which might be helpful for other victims, I paid £108 vat, but there is no vat no, on the invoice. THIS IS AGAINST THE LAW!!!!!!!!!!!! . I’m now going to go and start a war with 💩

Locked out of house
Locked out of house. Telephone quote for access to house £49. Business told the lock was a Banham lock but this denied when locksmith arrived. He drilled a hole in the door and lifted the latch (5 minutes) and after filled hole with wood filler and charged £180.
Price charged at door after waiting for 1 hour being locked out and in a vulnerable situation.
No contact for BS security by phone as answer service. I emailed with no response. Called bank and Trading Standards. Keep the number of MLA approved locksmith for emergencies as this was rogue trading.
Do not use them!
Be aware when using them !!!!
I called Your Local Locksmith Company
You call the service and someone answers within minutes — very polite and convincing. However, in my case, a different person arrived, and when the invoice was issued, it was under a completely different company name: BS Security Maintenance!!
I was quoted £320 for an original gearbox, or £220 for an alternative, plus another £75 for another part. The parts provided had no packaging, receipts, or proof of origin, despite being described as coming from their office. The old parts were taken away, so there was no way to verify what was replaced. I am sure they bought parts in Toolstation or screwfix
they’re overcharging and taking advantage of people who needs the stuff done.
When I later contacted original number 'Book A Local Locksmiths' linked to the service and questioned the pricing, I was blocked straight away.
The same phone number also appears to be used across multiple services (e.g. “Your Local Maintenance Company,” “The Local Builder”), which may be a red flag. looks like it is their tactic.
In my experience, this service does not offer clear or transparent pricing!! And they block you that already means something.
BS Security rip off
BS Security. The hint is in the name. It was total BS. Called a local locksmith company that had good ratings. I somehow had this company answer. All I wanted was a quote to change 2 locks and fix the alignment. He said he needed to see the lock but lock change would be £45 per lock. My wife was at home. He then quoted her £665 to and only changed 1 lock. I estimate we've been ripped off by about £450.
Called them and asked to speak to manager. Said send email. Heard nothing back. Will be call citizens advice to lodge complaint and starting a charge back under section 75.
DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY
DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! They charged me £690 to simply replace a lock (no break in needed). Lock was defective and not suitable for a flat fire door so I had to pay for a proper locksmith to come in and fit another lock. THe proper locksmith said they had never seen such a bad job (lock was not on straight and door did not close properly. They also remarked on the cheap quality of the lock. Stay away I have been fighting for money back since December.
