Public question to the Oman Civil…
Public question to the Oman Civil Aviation Authority (CAA):
My case has been ongoing since February 2026 regarding Oman Air flight WY153 from Muscat to Zurich on 17 February 2026.
The case was reviewed, and a compensation amount of OMR 1,820 under the CAA regulations was confirmed as the final settlement. I also received an official settlement document from Oman Air dated 21 April 2026, under Feedback No. 141259.
Despite this confirmation and numerous follow-up emails, I continue to receive the same response that my case has been forwarded to the relevant department. However, until today, I have not received the compensation and have not been given any clear explanation or concrete update regarding the payment.
My question to the Oman Civil Aviation Authority is:
If the compensation of OMR 1,820 was confirmed under the CAA regulations, why has the compensation still not been paid, and why have I not received a clear response regarding the status of my case?
This matter has now been pending for several months. I kindly request a transparent explanation and a clear answer as to when the confirmed compensation will finally be paid.
I would appreciate a concrete response rather than another statement that the matter has been forwarded to the relevant department.
CAA, what a waste of time
I had a flight in July 2025 with Albastar (see my review under Albastar for full details) which involved a delay going out, I was given paperwork to fill out and told to contact the CAA if not resolved. After nearly a year had not resolved matter of compensation for the flight delay with Albastar so contacted the CAA, they required me to send them every bit of paperwork I had (which took a long time to sort out) after around a month later received email from CAA to say they had contacted Albastar but had not heard back from them, so said they will give them a further 28days to respond!!!! And they if they still haven't heard anything will make a decision and this will be around 6 weeks!!!!!!
So some 12 weeks after first contacting CAA, got an email from them to say they still haven't heard from Albastar but they carry no legal powers to do anything therefore they can't do anything and will close the case!!!!!! So I've waited 12 weeks for absolutely nothing, what a complete waste of time and so much for the CAA in assisting you. So if you fly with Albastar and have a delay, the airport gives you paperwork to how to claim including going through the airline (in this case Albastar) and also the CAA, both of which I did, but because they just ignore you, you can't do anything about, what's the use in contacting the CAA
CAA ignored Article 8 breach - rerouting failure not addressed
I expected the CAA to provide an accurate and impartial assessment of my UK261 complaint. Their outcome letter stated that Jet2 had refunded the full cost of my original ticket and had reimbursed the difference between my original booking and my replacement travel. While this meant I was not technically left out of pocket, the CAA did not address the fact that Jet2 had initially failed to offer any rerouting options under Article 8 and instead issued an unsolicited refund. This omission was significant, as rerouting is a core obligation under the Regulation.
The CAA’s conclusion that Jet2 had met its obligations was inconsistent with both the Regulation and the CAA’s own published guidance. The airline did not offer rerouting at the earliest opportunity, and the CAA did not engage with this breach.
When I raised concerns about inaccuracies and unclear wording in their correspondence, the CAA acknowledged that their explanation “did not clearly reflect the circumstances”, but declined to correct the assessment, reconsider the case, or provide a proper apology. Their response apologised only “if parts of our explanation caused confusion”, rather than acknowledging or correcting the factual inaccuracies I had identified. They maintained that the errors “did not affect the outcome”, even though the outcome relied on those same statements.
My experience suggests that the CAA does not enforce UK261 for individual passengers and offers limited practical protection when airlines fail to meet their legal obligations. Complaints appear to be treated as data points rather than cases requiring accurate review or correction.
Most pointless organisation facilitating dishonesty
Most pointless organisation.
I complained about Easyjet who had made an error in my booking and denied boarding on the travel day as a result of their error. The error related to infant seats bookings which could only be booked by phone according to Easyjet rules and therefore the evidence in the form of the call recording was held by Easyjet. The case was black and white in my favour had call records been examined. Easyjet refused to disclose call transcripts (not surprisingly). I wemt to the Aviation Authority. They determined in Easyjet’s favour on the basis the airline said it did nothing wrong without requiring Easyjet to provide the actual evidence. No explanation of why it did not require the evidence or why based on he said/she said the burden of proof was 100 per cent in the airline’s favour. A complete joke and it’s no wonder corporates lie if they are not required to disclose call recordings. This regulator is a waste of space and facilitates dishonesty.
If the CAA is our last option to bring rouge airlines to order without costly legal fees then as members of the public we have been badly let down
Had issue with Jet2 holidays whereby we were loaded onto plane and never moved for over 4 hours. Tried to claim against Jet2 who falsely claimed adverse weather conditions. Strange as other planes taking off. Anyway, thought CAA would look at the facts and support my valid claim. How wrong, it was evident that they accepted the misleading reply from Jet2 without challenging them on the truthful facts. The letter to me from CAA was based on standard template, as certain pre- populated words still evident and sentences not flowing. Also, no mention of supplementary questioning on key discrepancies.
The judgement from the CAA was almost identical wording to that of Jet2 holidays.
What is the point of a regulator that doesn’t regulate and rolls over and accepts, at best incorrect information from the Airline, at worst, let’s say False information.
If the CAA is our last option to bring rouge airlines to order without costly legal fees then as members of the public we have been badly let down
Does pose the question is it time to get rid of the CAA, especially given the recent BBC report that 1000’s of previous rejected claims were valid.
Bizarre rules for drone usage that make no sense
The CAA have really strange rules for drone usage that don't make any sense.
There are people who call themselves "auditors" who are basically people who who make a nuisance of themselves by deliberately flying drones over private premises just to get a reaction, to annoy business owners and to get you tube hits.
The so called "auditors"(in reality idiots) are legally allowed to do this and are not even required to pass the A2 certificate of competency test, yet a drone operator like myself who only uses the drone to do property surveys is required to pass the test and obtain a certificate of competency before I'm allowed to fly the drone for legitimate business use to do a survey of a building. Work that one out!
They got the results that I couldn't with the airline!!
Took a while but the CAA were successful in finally getting SunExpress (should be known as SunDistress) to own up to their own errors and pay our compensation. When I approached the airline directly they told me it was "circumstances beyond our control" so I raised my case with the CAA who managed to get them to admit to their incompetence. Well done CAA and many many thanks!
7 months to get a trite decision.
Apart from the endless messages from 8Jan saying they were waiting contact from the airline, they now quote extraordinary circumstances that THEY felt did not qualify for compensation so why did I have to live in hope until now. Initial problem was 2Nov24.
This Government agency needs looking at.
25 hour delay paid out in full
Had a 25 hour delay on a flight from Barbados to Manchester 31/01/2025 contacted the airline and got an automated response. I left it a few weeks contacted them again and yes I got the same response. Took my case up with the CAA and within a couple of weeks the airline have paid me the full compensation I was owed. Thank you to the CAA for doing a great job
Absolute waste of time this lot
Absolute waste of time this lot. They pretty much just steal a lot of your time. I was owed £600 by Jet2 for stuff we had to buy due to not having our baggage on our flight that we didn't get back until 5 days into our holiday. Jet2 offered us a poultry £287. We escalated our complaint to the CAA who asked us to download all our receipts. 3 months later they sent us an email saying Jet2 had re-assessed our case and are offering you £287. That was it ! The CAA are a waste of time, Id give them zero stars if I could. I just wish Id read the reviews before bothering to involve them and saved myself hours of my time. The whole aviation business is a cartel that views customers as cattle that they can rip off.
Absolutely hopeless outfit
Absolutely hopeless outfit.
Jet2 wouldn’t pay us compensation after not loading everyone’s luggage on the flight and taking 5 days to get the luggage to our holiday destination.
Referred the issue to the CAA. We had to fill a complicated online form in that took forever, attach loads of receipts they asked for copies of and 3 months later they reply to say that Jet2 won’t give us compensation. So. A regulator that doesn’t regulate. Absolute waste of time. Another faceless organisation taking wages and for what ?
The aviation industry is corrupt from top to bottom and treat passengers like cattle. There’s not a thing you can do about it.
CAA is useless and they could not help…
CAA is useless and they could not help me. They reply in 3 weeks and just want additional information even though I completed their form in detail. Guess what I gave them additional information and then in 2 weeks time got another email. They want even more information. I gave up. It’s been 14 months since Saudia hasn’t compensated me for delay flight. I now will be taking them in small court claim.
I've got no idea what their purpose is
I've got no idea what their purpose is. I had a claim with the airline and they were ignoring it and they refused to reply to the CAA once I got them involved. They emailed me saying they can't do anything because the airline didn't respond to their email. They did however say they believe my claim is Valid.
What is the point of the CAA if the companies you regulate ignore you?
We have airlines blatantly breaking the Law and the regulators are powerless to do anything about it.. It's one big Scam!
i will saying that they are just a time…
i will saying that they are just a time waster! because after they waste my time more than 3 months and i though they will defend of me and they will take my right from pegasus turkish flight company but i foundout the (Mr Adirian Ghilotti) he was the person who takes decision on my case hes becomes like a Solicitors of Pegasus flight company and he was against me!!!
Shame on you for this salary you receive from the company your working for!!.
This was by far the worst experience…
This was by far the worst experience I've ever had, I was planning on doing a direct conversion from Malaysia ATPL to UK ATPL license only asking for the procedure and the customer service wont help, they ask to send an email which I did 3 days ago and never give a toss. Well im no longer interested in working in the UK with this kind of authority governing the aviation sector.
Another outsourced govt org - Not fit for purpose
Agree with the consensus of negative comments.
Helpline only open 2 days a week for a few hours (originally only 1 day a week) if they answer the phone they make you feel like they're doing you a favor. Backlog of cases waiting up to 10 weeks for a response.
I'm sadly going to agree with the other…
I'm sadly going to agree with the other 1* commenters here. I contacted CAA 4-5 months ago after pursuing a legal complaint against Turkish Airlines for breach of contract and lost luggage. They never even responded to my claim (on the website it says to expect a reply within 90 days). Their website is also not accessible outside of the UK, which doesn't really work for us as I spend much of my time overseas. Disappointed to see it's taxpayer money that's funding them, what a scam. I'll be pursuing legal action via a solicitor instead.
An old boys club at the cost of the taxpayer.
Totally agree with a lot of the 1 star comments. It is not fit for purpose. It should stick to pilot regulations and FTO, and aircraft safety only. To say they regulate airlines is a joke. Only open a couple of hours per week!!!
What a dinosaur of an organisation.
Great Service
I applied for rating to be added to my licence and not only did they helpfully assist on the telephone, subsequent emails queries were replied to swiftly and most helpfully It was all completed well within the forecast timescale.
Considering the pressure they must be under it was a really good (but expensive) experience - thank you
