Absolutely less than zero stars. This company has ridiculous expectations when approvals are required for more expensive treatments and drug protocols. Like all drug and insurance they want to keep the $$ for their shareholders and cheat the patient. They may write approval letters and then go back on their commitments on so ensure your ducks are 100% in line

Sent my receipt in for orthotic insoles and it wasn't very long before receiving a refund for them, directly in my bank account. Very happy with GreenShield.

Robot offered the option of a callback, which I never got. Robot voice didn't understand what I was asking for--had to say "talk to agent" about 15 times before getting an actual human. Human talked over me quite loudly with a barrage of words, and only made excuses when I gave them feedback about my negative experience. GSC's customer "service" is a nightmare.

I've signed up to get Alberta Retired Teachers Association (ARTA) insurance coverage, and its Green Shield that is the insurer.

I've only had insurance for a year now and already been denied coverage 3 times for items that are clearly covered.

I've had to contact ARTA, who then has to contact Green Shield, and then I wait to have to claim resolved. This most recent time I asked the person from ARTA if this happens a lot, and they replied, 'unfortunately yes, it does'.

This is disgusting to have an insurer deny whatever claims they want, whenever they want, for services that are clearly covered and when all documentation is clearly attached to the claim.

I've also asked service providers/vendors about Green Shield and many that are well known places such as a radiology clinic. One extremely well know radiology clinic actually has notes about Green Shield. They have noted they have to write more on already medically approved procedures, as they've continued to have patients that have had to come back and get more and more letters from them for things that are covered, and that medical doctors have clearly approved and treated.

I have no words and have already sent my feedback to ARTA, and felt it was important to also put it here. Next time I'm writing Green Shield themselves, although I don't have a lot of confidence anything positive would come of that.

What turned our complex and frustrating issue into a positive outcome has everything to do with the kind, careful, and patient approach by Melanie (Representative# 547). Her interaction with us was stellar. Unfortunately, not all Representatives mirror her skill set and demeanour. She has restored my faith again in Greenshield! I kid you not!!

It's like having coverage without actually having coverage.

I don't recall having a single medication covered over the last 3 years.

Constant claim denials and followed up by generic responses when you inquire about the claim refusal. They are horrible to deal with, there are much better benefits providers out there for less money. Do your homework if you have a choice in health insurance providers. Myself and close colleagues have been nothing but disappointed.

Zero stars. Sent my script medication to Loblaws and Loblaws won’t do it. I’ll have to go on disability without this medication I’ve been on for 8 years but they don’t care. Anything to save a buck. I’ve had countless insurance places and I’ve never experienced this before. Denied 8 times on a medication I need to help with my brain lesion pain. Sickening. Absolute scum company. Worst insurance in the whole world. If you have a speciality medication you are so screwed. If you hate your employees get this insurance

My union benefits were supplied through DA Townley and they were excellent. Then DA Townley was purchased by Telus. Service got worse but was still acceptable. Now the benefits are through Greenshields and it is unbelievably bad on all counts. I have been unable to contact them after numerous attempts. I will now have to try through my union. This company should be out of business

Poor customer service. I was on hold for at least 30 minutes. It was very hard to get an agent on the phone. And i cant get proper answers to my questions. It takes forever to get reimbursed on claims. And it takes forever for them to resolve my inquiries. Very poor customer service. I had to hung up because I was on hold for a very long time.

Do not rely on Green Shield to provide drug coverage. Ideal customers are healthy customers who pay fees to have a nominal plan. When requesting to add a diabetic dependant, this was the response:              Declined, due to the nature and extent of his medical conditions, and the medications required to manage those conditions.

Very poor customer service, almost like upsetting clients with long wait times, hanging up repeatedly on clients after being on hold for up to an hour - wasting peoples valuabel time, etc... Very challenging to get reimbursed on a claim. University of Alberta uses GreenSheild for student services and trying to get reimbursed on a claim will lead a student to mental health issues. Its a serious issues and this company needs to be reprimanded and financially penalized.

Waited on hold for 1.5 hours to just get transferred to another department. All i needed was access to my login.

Absolutely abysmal customer service
There was an issue with a claim payment and the online customer service was the worst I have ever experienced. Multiple instances of them repeating the exact same information even after I explained that I had already done those steps or why they were not relevant to my issue. Zero effort to solve my problem or even to figure out what the actual problem was. By far the most frustrating and least productive interaction with a company's help centre I have EVER had.

A low end group insurance company that turns what should be straightforward claims into an ordeal. They seem to have a strategy of trying to frustrate customers into not making a claim. If you have a choice then choose to deal with a better company like Manulife. Unfortunately my group plan is with Greenshield because the City of Toronto chose them because they charge less for coverage - but also provide a lower standard of service.

The worst insurance company. It has taken me 2 months to get money back from a claim- they denied it with zero reasoning so I had to call and was on hold for 2 hours .. he told me what I needed to upload so I did - denied again- this went on for 3 times before I finally just had to pay the doctor for another drug req form (had it with my old insurance company) then they finally approved it but never reimbursed me - so I had to call and wait on hold for another 30 minutes because their call back option doesn’t work. In total I had to speak to 4 different agents and spend close to 6 hours on hold - then they told me it would take 2 weeks to even reimburse me . If my company had any other options I would not be staying with them.

No matter what time of day you call - it’s anlmost impossible to speak to a live agent . The “on hold call queue “ doesn’t give you an idea of how long you will be on- hold. No choice of music - even worse. Terrible service .

It's getting worse. Makes it difficult to het coverage over something that impacts your health. Removes coverage with no warning causing health issues. Big waste of money.

Can not get hold of gsc , I have not been able to file a claim for over 2 years, since i have changed my email address finally i was able to contacted them by phone which it took close to 1.5 hours waiting for someone to answer the phone and they assured me they were going to change my email address but it has already been over 2 months and nothing has changed, but one thing for sure they never forget to take my money every month , they should ashamed of themselves
