I am 34 and couldn't find a Job in years. At one point I decided: "If I had to stay at home doing nothing but send curriculums around I could instead take the chance that my forced free time gave me and finally use such time to study what I always wanted but never could: game development".

I started with pixel art followed by storytelling for videogames.. and after that I switched to Unity and C# Coding.

Every month I saved 5 to 10 euros in a little money pool so I could buy some courses on the matter and when I had enough i did.. but
at the beginning I didn't really care for Holistic3d courses because all of them seemed to specific or not what I tought I needed at the moment.

So I bought other courses instead, courses that promised to teach to total beginners how to create many different games all at once, saying that you didn't need experience in coding to follow them and so on...

This is when the problems started to happen for me.

Understanding C# was (and I have to be honest.. at times it still is) almost impossible for me. If I had a question I only got some vague answers from people that, it was obvious, were not able to asnwer with "noob words" but only made my confusion higher.

There were times I literally felt like slamming my face on the walls because of frustration.

So I decided to take a break and look for a real beginner course on C#alone before going back to video game developing.

That's when I found Holistic3D Naked C# Course.

I can say now that if I'm able to understand C#.. if I am able to code something in C#.. it's only thanks to that specific course.

Penny is an awesome teacher, the best one you could EVER find on the net.

Now I understand that what other courses do, teaching a lot of different things all togheter, is absolutly NOT the right approach to teaching, excpecially for a subject as complex as this is.. and Penny, as an experienced and awesome teacher does know that and as such.. she's probably the only one that teaches specific subject covering them in the most specific and in depth way possible so to make students undertand and learn more easely.

Holistic3D courses cover A LOT of different subjects related to video game developing. There're some that noone else actually offers (like, for example, advanced AI, still didn't find another course on that) and the quality of such courses is, thanks to Penny's ability as a teacher, absolutly outstanding.

Another aspect I really want to talk about tho is the community that was built around holistic3d courses.

Since I've bought and followed many different courses I even had the chance of seeing different game developing communities. I can easely say that most of them are full of conceited people that are there more to tell you that "they're way of programming is universally right.. and yours sucks" than of people actually wanting to help.

This is not the case with Holistic3D community since it was the only one were people actually answered my question willing to help, even without commenting how "bad my coding was compared to theirs".. and this is an extremly important aspect for someone wishing to learn coding.

Another thing I REALLY have to thank Penny for is the fact that she does not overprice her courses like everyone else does... Beeing with almost zero money and still having the chance to buy some real quality courses like Holistic3D ones has been and still is kind of a lifesaver for me because it actually gives me the chance to improve without sacrificing my family well beeing (still need some money for food and taxes after all).

With time I managed to buy a lot of Holistic 3d courses.. not a single one disappointed me. If only I had a little more finantial freedome I would've already buy all of them.. but I sure will in time.

The only "sad" point about all of this is that I never had the chance to talk with Penny, only with her instructors or with people in the community.. because I would have really liked to thank her myself during a conversation.

As you can see I gave Holistic3D a 5 star rating.. and I hope the "maybe too long" story I wrote above here manage to explain well enough the reasons why it's 100% earned.

I would suggest Holistic3D courses to everyone interested in learning c#, Unity and Game Development without a second tought.

Penny and Holistic3D have highly informative and entertaining tutorials. Both paid and free tutorials are packed with great substance.

I have purchased 4 of Penny’s courses from Udemy. These have been AI and networking courses. I have found them to be excellent and I have enjoyed them. Penny presents the material in a logical order and with the correct amount of detail. I find her engaging and easy to listen too, she is also well informed in the subject matters of her courses. I have purchased 4 Udemy Courses by Penny de Byl (Holistic3d) and every one of them was worth far more than the purchase price. Penny is one of my favorite instructors - she covers a very broad range of topics for game development within Unity, and each course contains plenty of easy to follow, useful examples. In addition, she offers plenty of free video tutorials on YouTube which are at the same level of quality and usefulness.

So far, I have learned something in every lesson I have taken there, the academic experience of Penny is evident when she explains something and in the way the lessons are structured.

Penny is an excellent instructor and knows her subject matter quite well. She presents in an easy to understand manner and you will understand exactly what you need at the end of each course.

Penny De Byl is one of the most knowledgeable and trusted sources in game development education, today. I've taken the majority of her classes on Udemy, and she provides the most in depth explanations of not only how things work, but also alternative methods of accomplishing the same task, and the reasoning behind when and where to implement different types of logic. She completely grasps the concept that not everyone will write the same code, and come to a solution the exact same way. She reinforces you to use the methods that best suits you and your game development style. I am gladly a student of hers, and always look forward to what courses she is working on.

These courses are very well balanced and it’s easy to learn a lot of things

In 2015 I started teaching my university journalism students Unity. I had a consultant who started with the concept of prefabs and collab. Needless to say, it was confusing for me and the students. None of us got it. The next semester, we stumbled upon Holistic 3d and it was a revelation. Not only did we finish some projects but each semester since my students have gone on to do some pretty awesome games and interactives. We would NOT have learned Unity without Dr. de Byl's foundational tutorials. Every semester I start the students off with Unity for beginners. Even though Dr. de Byl is using Unity 5, about 98% of it is still the same. We use the two landscape tutorials to teach world-building. My only wish would be for an updated landscaping tutorial -- just like the old one but using Unity's newer Terrain tools. We take everything we learn and create news games or AR. Thank you for being an awesome instructor.

Courses are very reasonably priced and provide valuable knowledge and insight into the Unity engine.

She is a great teacher and her courses are up-to-date. The lectures are well balanced and the content is complete.
