Appalling customer service

Called in today as I’m moving house shortly and am wanting to buy another Rangemaster Elise as I love my current one which is 900 wide but am considering a bigger one.
I know the Elise comes in 900, 1000 and 1100. I called in to discuss the differences.
When I came into the showroom 3 members of staff were stood at the desk discussing what they had done at the weekend .
I stood at the end of the counter and was clearly seen but they continued their conversation with no acknowledgement . I said “excuse me , can I have some help please”
One of the girls looked up - and if looks could kill- said it’s not my department !
I hadn’t said why I was in at that point .
The girl who came to help me was clueless. Didn’t know which range I was referring to , I had to show her . When I explained why I was there and needing information as to the differences with the larger models she looked incredulous and said there was no difference they were just wider !!!
I might have brushed the initial downright rudeness and indifference to one side had she rescued the situation with her knowledge and helpfulness, but neither were forth coming so I voted with my feet .
Appalling couldn’t care less customer service from a York firm I was hoping to place my business with .
What a shame .

Good Morning Mrs Moore. Firstly we would like to sincerely apologise as this is not the experience 99.9% of our customers enjoy and is obviously not the way we do business. I have discussed the counter issue with the staff concerned but with regard to the service; the member of staff you spoke to is in their 1st month with us and whilst relatively new has made a really excellent start, so far receiving glowing reviews and praise from our customers and colleagues alike rather than what you describe. Having discussed the matter with them they are very upset by your description of events as they were coming to the store manager to answer questions they could not when you left the store. As you will have seen we stock 100s of appliances and sell into the 1000s, whilst product knowledge is very important it is not possible to hit the ground running with all brands, models and skus. Again we can only apologise for the uncharacteristic experience you had yesterday and if you would consider coming in again and having a coffee I would be more than happy to run through the 90,100 & 110 Elise, other available range cookers and any other help you may need, please ask for me and I will see you as soon as possible. Great Service

We are very pleased with our new Samsung fridge/freezer from Herbert Todd. The delivery and installation team were quick, efficient and very professional.

Ordered a Bosch serie 4 washing machine over the phone and it was delivered within 2 hours. Very friendly

Great staff and good service

Washer packed up on Thursday, visited Herbert Todd on Friday. Lovely staff in store very helpful and nice, got washer chosen and was told could be delivered Monday morning. Delivery staff spot on as well, really nice and helpful. I’ll only be purchasing my white goods from here in the future, fantastic local company 👍

What a star you have working for you.

Two visits

I went to the showroom on the off chance of buying a dishwasher. The chap who served me was superb and the prices were extremely competitive. I bought one and it was fitted in two days with the old one deposed of, great lads who came and sorted it. My friend was looking for a vacuum cleaner so I took her there. We were served by Kelly. She could not have been more brilliant. Talked us through the models and even printed out comparison machines. My friend ordered one (which Kelly found had £70 off!) and when it's in the store Kelly is going to assemble it and register it online. You cannot get service like that anywhere else.

Amaizing customer service and Value for…

Amaizing customer service and Value for Money. Always shop local is my Moto! The Team at H Todd are amaizing Sarah is an absolute star. My Tumble dryer gave out over Christmas, I called store 29.12 and Sarah arranged for my New dryer to be delivered 02.01. To my Joy she called me on Friday 31 am to tell me I could get my new dryer today. The delivery Guys are amaizing installed and took old one away the even made a platform for new dryer to stand on! I have used this company for over 25 years. Brilliant as always.

Dissing another business lost them my sale

I called into Herbert Todd, York for a fridge freezer. As the one I wanted was in stock, the same price as Curry’s and only £5 extra for disposing of my old ff I wanted to support a local business.
I was told that it was an extra cost to deliver to a first floor flat. I commented that this was a shame given that Curry’s do not charge any extra.
The sales person then disparaged Curry’s saying that customers from Currys had told Herbert Todd’s that upon arriving to even a couple of steps at the front door Currys had refused to deliver the appliance.
This is bad form.
I went forward to buy from Currys. No extra fee. Seamless delivery to my flat.
Herbert Todd’s lost my sale because of this defamatory attitude and I won’t consider them again.

Thank you for your opinion Mr Watson and thank you for letting us know about the changes that have been made by another retailer. Believe it or not we are on your side, the side of the consumer, and we always try to give the best advice we can based on the most up to date information we have to hand. The colleague that served you had a customer from the same competitor you mention come in to buy from us only 3 days before you - the reason they came to us was because that competitor failed to deliver up some steps. We can only speculate why that was but the bottom line is that we always send an appropriate delivery team out to any job involving steps in the hope that we will never let any of our customers down. We remain unconvinced that some of the national competition could say the same.

Amazing experience

Amazing experience. I called up with a broken washer dryer and in less than an hour I had a new one installed , which is the quietest machine I have ever had. The team were amazing and really put themselves out to help me so quickly !
I would definitely recommend .

Happy customer

I have been so impressed with the service I received from this company. I was worried about fitting a washing machine into an awkward space, so I phoned up the shop for advice. Claire was really helpful and knowledgeable and I bought the machine over the phone which was very convenient. The men who came to fit it were as helpful as Claire assured me they would be. They really went the extra mile to get it fitted, and did a brilliant job despite it being a difficult space.

We were in the store looking for a new cooker, once we approached the desk we heard racial slurs. A family of racists. Perhaps they should enter this century.

Dear Mr Drake, we are a forward thinking, non-discriminatory and totally inclusive company who have never, once in the history of the company ever entertained any form of racism, exclusion, bullying or other harmful behaviour.
If you believe you have heard something harmful I would ask that to speak to the manager to get to the bottom of what was being said rather than just post supposition on social media. This sort of report is potentially damaging because it might put off other shoppers who should know that everyone is welcome into our stores no matter what their skin colour, religious beliefs, sexual orientation or otherwise. We are blind to all that and focussed only on giving great customer service.

Wonderful Customer Service

Amazing customer service more than two years after purchase. Due to Covid issues, I couldn't get through on the phone to organise a repair with the manufacturer. After one call to the shop an appointment was booked. Really impressed and thank you.

Fantastic service i ordered a washing…

Fantastic service i ordered a washing machine on friday to be delivered (i live in a 2nd floor flat and there are four flights of stairs to go up ) and installed also disposal of my old machine - there are also restrictions on my street where no traffic is allowed down after 10.30am - the 2 men arrived on monday morning at 9am and had finished and left by 9.20 - will definately use herbert todd again

We had a quote for mounting a TV…

Edit: Gobsmaked at Herbert Todd’s reply, completely inaccurate and dishonest. Not once did we refuse to pay the invoice we simply asked for a resolution, Chris came out to look at the wall and agreed immediately to repair it at their cost even saying ‘don’t be shy’ when he offered to also purchase the wallpaper at their cost, so they must have agreed it wasn’t left in an acceptable state. To make personal remarks in their reply is unbelievable.

We had a quote for mounting a TV bracket on the wall, but more importantly for installing the electrics so we didn't have any trailing wires/trunking as we wanted a really neat installation. They came and quoted, explained what they would do and arrived back when they said they would to carry out the work.

When fitting the electrics they cut chunks out of the wall and stuck the wallpaper back on with sealant (we were asked if we were redecorating before the work was carried out, we explained we weren't as it had recently been done and no one explained they would have to cut multiple, visible large chunks out of the wall to do the work). The new switch stopped working almost immediately. The wires and skybox were just wedged between the TV and the wall and kept falling down so we had to remove the TV and fit these properly ourselves. The people carrying out the work acknowledged the damage to the wall didn't look great when we expressed our disappointment with it.

5 months later we were invoiced a higher amount than agreed, we explained the issues and Herbert Todd agreed to use their in house decorator to repair the wall at their cost.

This took weeks to arrange despite them asking us to strip the wall and saying they would come the following week but no one turned up with no explanation as to why not, emails were ignored and when eventually responded to the appointment to repair the wall was cancelled the morning they were due to arrive, and despite various emails to and from the partner of the business not once did they issue any sort of apology.

If we had been informed the wall would have to be significantly damaged to do the work we would have reconsidered as the amount they charged wasn't cheap, but this was not explained. The quality of the TV bracket used was really poor, and the Customer Service received afterwards was terrible.

I'd rate two starts because it has now, finally, been resolved but would never use them again or recommend to anyone.

Following all we have done to remedy your misunderstanding we were disappointed you still felt in necessary to continue the matter via an inaccurate 2 star review. To get the facts straight: when we came and quoted the job our contracts manager told you we would need to chop cables into the wall in order to achieve the requested work. You accepted this and the quote. When our electrician attended site on the day arranged he again confirmed to you that we would need to chop into the wall, he says it was discussed twice in fact to try and make sure you understood.

The electricians then carried out the work and only at your request tried to patch up the old wall paper, not something we would recommend but as you had asked for it the electrician did as asked as we always go the extra mile. We have apologised for the delay between your original job, the complaint and our eventual action; there was a global pandemic and staff changes but still we apologised.

As you were refusing to pay anything for the work carried out in good faith, as per quote and as described you left us no choice but to carry out the additional works to re-paper your wall at our cost. We ordered the new wall paper as requested, unfortunately, on the day it was booked in our decorator had suffered a family bereavement, something that was met with sarcasm from you which probably tells us all we need to know about your character. We then attended on the date you wanted and completed the works.

So for the original quoted figure you now have cables in the wall, the TV where you want it and a change of wall paper which I must say is a lot better and more up to date than the one we originally chopped into. We have updated our policies so clients will now have to sign to say they understand that chopping a wall out will always be messy and will always need redecoration. Maybe alternatively we can look to recruit David Blaine so the next time a customer expects the same magical insertion of cables into a wall we will be ready! Thanks for your custom.

First-class service

The service I received when buying a new washing machine from Harrogate branch was absolutely first class. I totally recommend Herbert Todd & Son, a firm which really understands customer service. From Dave manager of shop down to Dene and Tammy who delivered and installed it, you really couldn’t ask for more. All three were knowledgeable, experienced and totally personable. A big thumbs up from me.
