Terrible experience
Terrible experience - have charged me for a delivery I have never received. Awful customer experience, they'll happily take your money and not provide the product. Now trying to recover the charges through my credit company as the product was never received despite two days of wasted time on site waiting for it to be delivered as promised.

Thank you for your feedback. We regret that the delivery service provided by our selected third-party haulier for your postcode area did not meet the standard expected by OakMax.
The local haulier provided an unrealistic ETA and the delivery was delayed by one day. It would have been better for everyone involved if they had communicated clearly from the beginning that they could not complete the delivery on the original day, rather than providing updates that did not reflect the real delivery position.
Although nationwide pallet deliveries are handled through third-party networks such as Palletforce, we understand that this still reflects directly on OakMax. For that reason, we will be reviewing this case with the delivery network and improving our communication around possible delays, as the delivery updates provided were not at the standard we expect for our customers.
That being said, we would like to clarify the full timeline for anyone reading this review.
As communicated to you over the phone when you called to cancel the order, the driver was already on the way to your address and was approximately 15 minutes away. Our Terms & Conditions state that transport charges are non-refundable once an order has left for delivery, as this is a service already arranged and paid for. However, because the delivery experience was clearly not at the standard we want for OakMax customers, we processed a full refund as a goodwill gesture.
The full order value was refunded, including both the goods and the delivery charge, through our payment processor, Stripe. A credit note was also issued for your records, and refund confirmation was provided before your review was posted.
For this reason, we would like to clarify that OakMax did not keep your money. These details were communicated to you, and the order was fully refunded, including the delivery cost.
We will use this situation to improve how delivery updates are followed up with our selected third-party hauliers, especially in short delivery time frames like yours, where accurate communication from the local depot is essential.

Excellent oak sleepers
Excellent, driver very helpful, order was fulfilled on the delivery date, which was arranged by a phone call from the transport company a few days before delivery. Nice oak sleepers, really heavy and sturdy.. thank you..

All sleepers different sizes
All sleepers different sizes, 80-100 thick, 180-200 wide, distorted, bent and out of 50 sleepers we are struggling to find sufficient which are regular enough to use. The 600 long cut sleepers are 620 and needed recut. Not the quality received in our first order in 2024 which were fine.

Service was good product wasn’t
Service was good. Product wasn’t.
Every board was different widths and thickness…150mm wide boards were ranging from 135 -175 in places and 5-6 mill deviation in thickness.
On a 3meter board , the bend was 25 mm out. Absolute nightmare when trying to build outdoor furniture/ kitchens.
Had to spend 2 extra days on the job straightening them out. Not ideal.
2 tables saw blades later. Ended up with 125mm wide boards.
I wouldn’t recommend…regardless of the cheap price

What concerns us most is that we didn't get the opportunity to help you resolve this before you invested additional time and effort. When issues like this arise, we have solutions in place, whether replacements or adjustments. That's exactly what we're here for.
From what you've described, those boards are clearly outside our tolerance range, and that shouldn't happen. Fresh-sawn oak naturally varies due to the rough nature of the cut, but our tolerances are usually only in addition, so you can trim and adjust on-site to fit your specific needs. In this case, we fell short of that standard, and we apologise.

Good product at a good price
Good product at a good price , courier let me down (based near edinburgh) but it made it there a working day late which was a problem for me as I paid wages out to staff to be there to receive and start to process the delivery that never came! Anyway, no fault of oakmax but could be worth considering alternative transport. Would still reccomend.

Oak was good for the price
Oak was good for the price. A bit rough and bowed, but for the price absolutely no complaints there. Delivery was a nightmare. The delivery service you use are terrible. Good customer service on phone, but communication between the companies staff was awful. I lost a day and a half of work waiting at home for delivery as I was told to by your company.

I understand your comments regarding the delivery, especially around communication and the time spent waiting. This is not the level of service we want to be associated with.
As you know, to deliver nationwide we rely on third-party hauliers. While situations like this can happen from time to time, we have not had similar issues with this particular haulier in the past. That said, we are now paying closer attention to deliveries in that area and will take the necessary steps, including working with alternative hauliers where needed, to improve the overall quality of the delivery service.
I also appreciate your comments about our customer service, good to hear that part worked as expected, and I will pass this on to the team.

Great service great price…
I have used Oakmax twice and on each occasion service, price and quality excellent. It is green oak with some splits and looks a bit rough and ready. Spend a few minutes sanding and it comes to life, quality wood at a very reasonable price, even with delivery 👍
