Collection good, product not as thought
Collection was really simple and easy to do but was forced into that with the prices being astronomical for delivery. (£97 for £24 worth of wood) We were also disappointed that the wood had ink and scuffs all over it and made us have to do so much prep-work to use this as a decorative item. Might have been my mistake thinking this was clean oak rather than something that resembled a scaffold board.

I’m pleased to hear that the collection process itself was straightforward, and we’ll certainly pass your comments on to the warehouse team. I do understand your frustration regarding the delivery cost. To offer nationwide coverage, we rely on third-party hauliers who charge by pallet space (up to 1 tonne), whether that pallet carries 1 oak board or 65, the cost of transport will be the same. This can make transport look disproportionately expensive on smaller orders. The benefit of this approach is that it allows us to offer the same good-quality oak across the UK without imposing a minimum order quantity. Where collection is practical, some customers choose that as the more cost-effective option.
Regarding the appearance of the timber, our oak products are supplied fresh sawn (green oak), so they are not planed, sanded or finished. Because of this, it is normal for the timber to show black saw marks, handling marks, light scuffs and other surface irregularities. In particular, black saw marks are superficial marks that can appear during the sawing process, usually where the blade heats up or picks up residue while cutting through fresh, tannin-rich oak. They are cosmetic rather than structural, and are part of the rough-sawn character of green oak. This is something we already communicate on our website, but we also take your point on board and will look to make this even clearer going forward.
That said, we always appreciate honest feedback like this, as it helps us improve how we communicate what customers should expect.

Ordered Oak planks for a pergola - bit disappointed.
Ordered Oak planks for a pergola. The thickness and width of the planks varied considerably eg with a stated thickness of 50mm the actual ranged from 46-55mm meaning that all notching had to be bespoke to each plank- difficult to do at height when the planks are 15kg. More bark on planks than expected, some significant splitting at ends of some planks and one section with void. Needed to modify design to avoid sub-standard parts of wood.

Good product poor communication.
The products are excellent, but the delivery information was not so good. My delivery was delayed, and I was provided with incorrect information. The driver had an issue with driving hours, causing a delay, and I was only made aware of this by the driver, who arrived after 6 pm.
