I don’t usually leave reviews, even after a poor experience, but I feel it’s important to share this one.

I purchased my Mercedes A45 S from Riviera Automotive in March 2025. As part of the sale, I also purchased a warranty through the dealership, as stated in the paperwork. Unfortunately, the problems started almost immediately.

The warranty was set up with the wrong expiry date (it should have run until June 2026). Correcting this took weeks of chasing, emails, and phone calls because the salesperson responsible simply stopped responding. Eventually it was sorted, but only after a great deal of unnecessary effort on my part.

Then, in July 2025, while driving to Devon on one of the hottest days of the year, I used the air conditioning for the first time since buying the car and discovered it was only blowing hot air. Assuming it simply needed a regas, I paid £180 at my local garage to have this done—something I would have expected to have been checked before the vehicle was sold.

Initially the air conditioning worked, but only briefly. Several months later it was blowing hot air again. I took it to another garage, where they pressure-tested the system and found it had completely lost its refrigerant. They refilled it, and once again it worked temporarily before the fault returned. It eventually progressed to cold air on the passenger side only, then no cold air at all. An engineer has since confirmed the fault would have existed when I purchased the vehicle.

As this issue should have been covered under the warranty, I contacted the warranty company to make a claim, only to discover they had gone out of business. From what I have since learned, they appear to have been a questionable company from the outset.

Because my agreement was with Riviera Automotive, I contacted them directly. On 9 April 2026, I spoke to Chris, who assured me the issue would be sorted and promised to call me back. He never did.

I chased again by phone on 20 and 22 April. Each time I was assured it would be passed to management as a high priority, but nobody contacted me. On 24 April I emailed the dealership manager directly, but received no reply.

I then followed up via WhatsApp on 4 May and again on 11 May. Initially I was told the matter would be escalated, but after that I was simply ignored.

This wasn’t a case of one missed message or one forgotten callback. I made repeated attempts over several weeks through phone calls, emails, and WhatsApp messages to give Riviera Automotive every opportunity to resolve an issue that appears to have been present from the day I bought the car. Despite all of this, I received no meaningful response.

I am now left with no option but to pursue the matter through the Small Claims Court and ask my finance company to reject the vehicle, as I have exhausted every reasonable avenue to resolve this directly with Riviera Automotive.

Based on my experience, I cannot recommend this dealership. The issue itself is disappointing, but the complete lack of communication and after-sales support has been far worse.

Sold my Mustang GT through Riviera this week after they were the highest bidders on motorway. Process was relatively smooth - could’ve been a bit quicker and easier to get a hold of the buyer to arrange collection, but not near bad enough to knock a star off.

Collection day with John their assessor was very good also, inspection was quick and easy. Was very patient as we walked through a small issue regarding the condition that had not been spotted before because of the weather, but once it was cleared up with the buyer the money was promptly in my account and off they went.

Great service all round, very happy with result.
