Sort Legal handled my conveyance in 2026. I was diligent throughout - documents were signed and returned promptly, and I was told on 16 June that "we have all the documents required." My agreed completion date was 1 July.

On 29 June - two days before the deadline - I was told for the first time that there were issues. The completion date was missed obviously.

What I later discovered from the file is that the firm had requested a key document calculated to 8 July - a week after my agreed 1 July completion date - as early as 10 June. I was told on 16 June that everything was in order. I find it difficult to reconcile these two facts - did they already know my completion date was at risk as early as a month before, and just not tell me?

The firm's own complaint response admitted the issue "should have been picked up when the offer was originally received" - meaning it was missed for three months while I was being told everything was on track.

What concerned me more was the difficulty in obtaining my own documents afterwards. I requested copies of correspondence multiple times over 5 weeks. These were repeatedly refused or ignored until I filed a formal Subject Access Request under GDPR. When I then asked for internal communications (as is my right under Article 15), these were refused on the basis of "firm ownership", and that apparently none of their internal comms actually contained my personal data - which is not a valid basis for refusing a SAR. I have referred this to the ICO.

The compensation offered used an incorrect calculation (provably wrong from their own documents), and I have noticed what are potentially overcharges.

I am still awaiting a full resolution.

If you've used Sort Legal and your completion was delayed, I'd encourage you to request your full file including internal correspondence - you have rights under GDPR Article 15 regardless of who "owns" the documents - you might be surprised at what you find.

I'm happy to share my experience with anyone in a similar position. I'm also looking at referring this to the Legal Ombudsman and the Council for Licensed Conveyancers soon.

Be very careful if you use this firm.

My conveyancer, Yahye, was consistently unresponsive throughout the process. I repeatedly had to chase for updates because my phone calls and messages were rarely returned. I was often left with no idea what was happening with my case, and important matters were not actioned in a timely manner.

The lack of communication caused unnecessary stress and frustration during what is already a demanding process. I reached the point where I asked to have my case transferred to another representative, but I was told that Yahye was a senior member of the team and my request was not accommodated.

I expected a professional, proactive conveyancing service, but instead I felt that I was doing the chasing every step of the way. Based on my experience, I would not recommend Sort Legal and hope they improve their communication, responsiveness and overall customer service.

My experience with Sort Legal has been extremely disappointing.

The conveyancing process has been slow, frustrating and poorly managed. Communication has been one of the biggest problems. I have repeatedly had to chase for updates, emails and phone calls have not been responded to promptly, and I have often been left wondering what was happening with my case.

Rather than making what is already a stressful house purchase easier, the lack of communication and delays have added unnecessary anxiety and frustration. I expected a professional, proactive service but instead felt that I was constantly having to follow things up myself.

Based on my experience, I would not recommend Sort Legal to anyone looking for an efficient and responsive conveyancing solicitor. I hope they improve their communication, case management and customer service so that other clients do not have the same experience.

We were selling our house, and unfortunately our buyer chose to use Short Legal as their conveyancer. Our experience with them was incredibly frustrating and, in our opinion, they were a major factor in the collapse of our chain.

Communication was painfully slow. Every query had to go through a case handler, who then had to speak to a manager before providing an update. Even the simplest questions often took around a week to be answered.

Many of the enquiries they raised seemed irrelevant and appeared to be little more than a tick-box exercise. There was no common-sense approach to dealing with straightforward issues, which led to unnecessary delays throughout the transaction.

The lack of communication was particularly disappointing. We were repeatedly pushing to agree a completion date, yet we were never informed that their client’s mortgage offer was close to expiring or that the buyers needed to give two months’ notice to their landlord. Had this information been communicated earlier, the chain may have been able to plan accordingly.

To make matters worse, when their client withdrew from the purchase, the only communication we received was a blunt email on a Sunday morning simply stating that their client was withdrawing from the transaction, with no explanation whatsoever.

Based on our experience, Short Legal’s online conveyancing service lacked efficiency, communication and proactive case management. We found the process frustrating from start to finish and would not recommend them

Adrianna and Evie have been really helpful the whole way through our mortgage process. They were so friendly and there was never a stupid question to ask them. They managed to get us start to finish in around 13 weeks and I really do recommend sort legal.
