Une mine d'or
Terrible Programme and full of people who could not get a software job.
So I am very new to HTML5 right? However I asked a question in the past and the mod (yes I call him a mod because he reminds me of a discord mod) said that I was incompetent and not at all experienced. A month later I ask a HMTL5 question (by the way the first question was regarding C++) and well, I get a answer in 5 mins! Yay! But then it turns out that fix only removes a key component of the code. So I decide to ask another question. Yet Stack overflow bans me for: "You've asked 2 questions recently, some of which have not been received very well by the community. Everyone learns at their own pace, and it’s okay to make some mistakes. However, the reception your questions have received thus far ultimately block your account from asking questions entirely." SO?! I may be a beginner in HTML but am well versed in C++ and Python! What gives!?
P.S: I can guarantee most people on there can not get a software job.
SUCH A SHAMELESS & DISCRIMINATORY WEBSITE!
THEY HAVE A SYSTME OF HIERARCHY AND CASTEISM WHEREIN WE EARN EARN REPUTATIONS WHICH ABSOLUTELY DICTATE OUR ABILITIES!!!
This website is extremely toxic
This website is extremely toxic. When this is brought up, they will claim it is your fault for not writing your question well enough. In reality, it doesn't matter how well the question is written. If they don't know how to answer, they will downvote. Difficult questions are too much for them. You'd get better coding advice from r/vegancirclejerk
Not usable for newbies.
Sometimes it is hard to write a correct question, because you still have to make up your mind about the problem. Sometimes we are beginners. Sometimes the questions are downvoted and you do not know why. Sometimes questions are just closed. Stack overflow has become a platform for selfish users. No chance for newbies. Why not create a special forum for as you think "silly, easy" questions for beginners ? or are you too good for that ?
Ridiculous platform
I have a question answered and My problem solved. But they turned back and said my question is needing more debugging information. While my question solved, it turns out extra debugging information is not required for the answer. They closed my question and do not allow anybody to answered. Luckily I got my question answered before they closed my question. But their rules are absurd and ridiculous in the way of preventing people from answering and getting the answers.
SO is the best place to find your answers
If you follow the rules, you will easily find your questions. Great community and admins.
SO is a lifesaver, and the points have tangible value to a business
Stack overflow has been a lifesaver, the people who have answered my questions in some cases are people I would be honestly honored to meet. I consider the points on stack overflow like money, because adding bounties to questions has a tangible value. I have saved THOUSANDS of dollars for some of the responses I've received on stack overflow. Anyone hating on stack overflow is honestly just "butthurt" about their more stringent question policy. Don't get me wrong, i've been frustrated as well when some of my questions get closed, but overall, I think if you learn the platform you've determine how to effectively use it and avoid the admins who, all-in-all, improve the platform. Some questions are irrelevant, stupid, unclear, etc. and the platform maintains its usefulness by not having this. I tell all my devs to make a stack overflow account, and even have them ask questions on my behalf to get points to access new features that will help them in the long run. The utility of stack overflow is overlooked by sooo many developers.
PS: I've used stack overflow for years, it is a life saver.
Mi accodo alle critiche. Arroganti come pochi
Allora cosa domando a fare?
Stackoverflow is super toxic. Moderators are a big part of the problem
Stackoverflow is a smart company. They use a gamification system, to motivate users to do their job. So, users contribute content and SO sells ads, earns money and gets a prominent side in the internet.
The downside of this system is that many many many users are not mentally mature to behave adequately and treat others with respect.
They mutate to so called rep-hores. And having a high rep, they go berserk. In in Meta you can even read: Yes, we are elitist. This includes especially "elected" moderators, because it gives those guys a feeling of having even more power. They do not even notice how bad their behavior is. Dunning Kruger at its best.
All this makes the environment in SO totally toxic and for new and also experienced users, nearly unusable.
People start to get arrogant and behaving like crazy, declining flags against rude behavior, downvoting newbie questions like hell, because downvoting is for free and does not take their precious reputation away. Also, all participants hide behind anonymous artificial names. So, lets downvote. Hah. Or make indicate something as duplicate, without reading and understanding the question. They have even a "dupe-hammer". Totally crazy, those guys.
Downvoting and closing newbie questions is in most cases very fast. And even if the question is already closed, still people hammer downvotes on it. This is definitely not normal.
And the SO company could easily change that. For example: Downvoting could cost 10 points rep. And closing should be possible after 3 days. All would be solved immediately.
Anyway, I write this comment because of a question regarding "Ban extension". I was banned for doing wrong "edits". Which I of course admitted openly in the question, Why not. I made a mistake.
My very specific question was about the rules for "ban periods".
In the beginning I did not get any answer, but the people just started bashing at me. Downvoting fast, like lunatics. Especially the side moderator with a nice rainbow flag in his logo, showed that he is totally mentally sick, does not understand his task as moderator, and was just bashing around, without answering my question. Such a guy should be immediately removed from his moderator role. Others joined in the happy bashing procedure.
Summary. SO is good to find answers, but the community is that toxic, that the side is useless to ask any question. What a pity . . .
I will additionally send a complaint to SO company staff.
P.S. And they are sleeping and ignoring disruptive technologies like chatgpt.
A dying website managed by paranoid admins
A dying website managed by paranoid admins! I was trying to help. I used ChatGPT to search for answers for some questions posted there. I posted the answers which all began with capitalized "[ANSWER BY CHATGPT]". They immediately suspended my account, and the accusation was "Plagiarism / failure to indicate or attribute work that's not your own (AI generated text)"!
My reply to them was that firstly, their action against me was laughable and paranoid; secondly, I can get instant answers from ChatGPT which have been 90% accurate - who needs Stackoverflow?
Bad site for beginning developers
I asked a question about a topic. This was my first question. I made a post with my error message and all of my code. It got downvoted and closed because they said they didn't had enough information.
I wanted to submit another question but I got blocked for a day.
I won't recommend StackOverflow for beginning developers since you can't be a beginner to them. There is no option to get help about making questions.
Edit: I got reputation from a post but one day it was gone. I got no message from anyone with the reason for it.
Be cautious with Stackoverflow
Seems stackoverflow people are more interested to find out issues with the questions. I was upset and sad when all the rude guys made bad comments on the questions. Now I understand their culture when I see the reviews here. I just deleted my account with stack overflow and posting questions somewhere else.
Stack overflow deletes my questions…
Stack overflow deletes my questions every time, saying I need to put more details when in fact I put pictures, and explain very clearly. They just don't want to say they don't have an answer. They have truly fell off.
This is greater than unbelievable ...
This is greater than unbelievable ...
A Monitor stated he was willing to help debug my problem.
I then felt motivated to review my code again. In the process of doing so, I found what turned out to be a one-line addition, something I should have thought of before I presented the problem in my Post. Nevertheless I did find the error and posted it in a reply back to the Monitor.
I was very, very happy and in my exhilaration I quoted my youngest when he said "Holy Batman!".
My God in Heaven, you'd think I committed an unpardonable sin. The Moderator's anger surfaced.
Arrogance! Infinite Ego.
What's wrong with these folk?
Its the most toxic community with the…
Its the most toxic community with the stupidest rules on the internet
Moderators remove relevant and good…
SO quickly stacked several moderators to vote down the posting and then removed it. As I looked at the original post and the original comment from the moderator it looked suspiciously like they were upvoting a product and downvoting anything that contradicted that objective. My answer contradicted their answer as well. To improve this, SO should rewrite their rules and inform the community when an answer or an original post was upvoted or downvoted by a Moderator. Further, moderators are not great engineers, hot air does not make good engineers. Good software engineers do not have the time to be Moderators. A better method is needed to moderate a platform.
Totally toxic environment
Totally toxic environment. Completely unfriendly and not welcoming at all. Moderators who could help are also terrible. Arrogance, elitism in a negative sense. People, drunken by their imagined power, bashing around. No culture. No maturity. People talking about rubber ducks and debugger for noobs. Go, check for your self and ask a question. Unbelievable . . .
