It is only suitable for basic, simple programming questions.
Trickier ones will be automatically closed, just to satisfy the moderators own scoring.To challenge the moderator decisions is not possible.
The closed one topic, stating it is hardware and lecturing me on the basics of the site.
Even so, it only occurs on a certain OS.......time waster!

Some answers are helpful sometimes but website is pretty broken.

Insane bias against new accounts. People with new accounts have less tools. They can't do many normal things as well like voting.

They don't organize content well enough.

They have many pointless moderators and stupid rules.

They may ban you because your questions were unpopular or hard to answer. You haven't done anything wrong, but you will be automatically banned.

They don't let to forget you. They are illegal in EU as others noted.

Use GitHub or something better for code hosting, benchmarks and other tooling.

Community isn't that experienced on average. They don't care to tell hardware when it matters. They don't care to make or share benchmarks when it matters.

More often than not, they don't have a normal conversation. They don't discuss when and what to use. They force users to select only one answer, which can be quite pointless.

Stack overflow.. yikes.. I tried to ask 1 stupid/simple question and get down voted... Seems they only want you to ask "here's my code, please make it do x, y & z".. any other questions outside of that.. you're going to get told you're an idiot and down voted.

Super toxic.. NOT at all helpful. They weren't even reading my question, just telling me how I'm wrong about asking it... being a$$holes about it.. not helping me get info and gain understanding on python code.. arrogant a$$holes..

Hmph, how can I start? nothing works! They made me feel stupid. I mean I am but you don't have to say it.

Python is a huge part of my physics degree. Whenever I have any issues, I often find the solutions on Stack overflow. There is some really good stuff on scripy optimise. If you are a new coder, I can not recommend them enough. Also I would recommend github, YouTube, code academy to any new coders.

Had my answers rejected and stolen by members with higher ranking. Complained to the moderators and was advised to talk in good terms to the person before anything else.
Populated by people with narrow views that just want to show off.

Hyper-critical toxic moderators. They instantly ban any question for not being perfect. You ask what's the problem and fix any errors. Now it's spot on but nobody is looking at the post any more because it's closed. So you make another post, this time it's perfect, but now this is banned because it's a duplicate of the first. Now both are closed. You ask how you're supposed to fix this and they just ignore you. It's a disgrace because there's nowhere else to go since this has cornered the market. Noobs are now stuck in limbo.

Completely toxic community. Don't waste your time writing questions so it will be closed within minutes.

I had a text processing problem of general utility, just the kind of thing would be a benefit to their knowledge base, checked there were no similar questions on the site, wrote a clear question, only for for it be closed within minutes as not focussed. I'm not inclined to try to get past their moderation scheme.

Harmful moderators. Rude to ask in comments. Dont give you edited codes. Delete your posts.

If you collect all arogant programmers then become stackoverflow. MOST moderators even dont have any skills to start talk. but they talk fot points and ranked.

All of the stack sites have a very biased, negative, toxic, and narrow-minded community.

They have a lot of biased members that down vote and flag questions for deletion for way too many crappy reasons. Its suppose to be, if you do not want to answer the question, then move on politely, and let someone else answer the question who will.

Instead I have seen them downvote and flag for deletion just because the op's question bugs them in some way. It could be the question, it could be the op's choice of language, when its not their prefered choice. This is evident when someone posts an answer in c++ , when I directly asked a question for pure c, in the title so I could avoid the confusion. The community members are rude and overly opinionated in their replies and in their ability to flag for deletion.

I was flagged once because my question was in pure c. They flagged it as a duplicate of a c# question. These are two different languages and the way you approach them when programming is different. One has tools and features the other does not. So the person who flagged my question for deletion did so out of spite.

The flagging for crappy reasons seems to result from biases and because they want to earn the badges and points so they can have some kind of toxic site status they can gleam about.

The site doesn't provide a way to get answers for larger more complicated projects, which it should, because it's supposed to be a site for answers on different parts of programming. The members say that a lot of topics are too broad and flag for deletion instead of trying to answer the question. Which makes no sense because all the big broad topics can be broken down into smaller topics but the toxic members refuse to help narrow down the question to a particular problem.

The site does not allow you to drop a github link to your code which could help when you have a lot of files and a large project. The members could fork the project and run it to help clarify the problem. Instead stack has allowed the toxic members with status to decide that using github was not ok. Instead members will ask you to provide a workable example of your code and when you do, they get mad if the code is too long. I am not a newbie so why would my question be about something I can find in a coding book? I came here for a more complicated problem and your if your not willing to answer the question then this toxic site is kinda worthless isn't it?

The site has allowed the toxic members of the community way too many opinions on the site itself and how the members inter-communicate with each other on the site.

These stack sites are suppose to be a database of knowledge that anyone can refer to when they need help with some more complicated coding but more often than not, you will not find the answer, you're looking for.

There are usually way too many answers on any one op's question, with too many replies, and way too many people arguing about the right way to do it. This has led to way too many unorganized site questions. Making it less useful then actually useful. Again this results from people just answering to gain badges and points for status so not all answers are legit.

You now have to cypher through all the bad answers as well as peoples opinions in order to find the answer that may or may not work. Especially since the site and community do not allow you to revise the original question as you begin to further understand and define the question. So all the the bad answers and replies there before you edited and refined the question, which is the final question that got you to the correct answer are now stuck with your site question. All the previous bad answers and all the negative replies are there in the final draft making it difficult for future readers visiting the site to quickly get an answer from your answer because it's all too unorganized.

There also members who will answer the question right then later remove their correct answer so that its no longer there to refer back to. If I marked your answer as the right answer then that answer should not be removable by anyone but me the poster. It should be stuck there, not all the answers, that I did not mark as correct. I should have the right as the question poster to remove the replies and answers that I do not feel are relevant or correct to my question. So the final version and the right answer can now be more accessible and provide better ql for the sites future readers. This would also defer points from people just posting answers and replies to gain status by taking away points if your answer or reply was not correct and removed. Since they were removed the points for votes on those answers and relies are removed as well.

So overall the stack sites are very toxic and I would not recommend any of them to anyone else to find an answer.

So I tried StackOverflow again, because I had a serious problem. Still thinking StackOverflow has respectable, serieus users. Oh, man... I was wrong.

I posted something that I couldn't fix. Although I have 20+ years of experience, doesn't mean I know it all. So I typed a whole post on this website. I was being clear, to the point, and serious. Also I checked out the related questions (that had nothing to do with my question).

Within one minute of posting I had 3 downvotes. No reason why, no answers. I am so shocked! I was one of the first Dutch members of StackOverfow and had my account blocked because... Yeah, I don't know. I posted and answered, but clearly correct, worked out answers aren't allowed.
So I created a new account today and check if the website was any better... Nope, still run my admins with a God complex and 12 year olds that have no clue what to do except for downvoting, saying it's a duplicate question (with a link to a totally different question), and screaming about typos (damn, sorry... I am Dutch, not American!).

Overall, nothing has changed on StackOverflow. It's time to shut it down and create a new platform with real developers.

Really bad experience. It's a site that's supposed to help you, but this site actually degrades you when you ask questions, it's very not beginner friendly. You ask a simple question that's probably easy to answer, instead of people asnwering, there are bill gates wannabe who thinks they're so smart then downvote your question. Next thing you know, your question got removed and you got banned. Their users really don't want to help, they just want to flex how "good" they are.
