A very disappointing experience…
I had a very disappointing experience with this car hire company in Venice due to how a minor flight delay was handled.
My flight from Manchester to Venice (Ryanair FR2898) on 06/02/2026 was delayed by around one hour. While still in Manchester, I contacted the car hire company to let them know about the delay and was advised to call again once I had cleared security in Venice, as their office closed at 23:00.
I followed this instruction exactly. Unfortunately, by the time I cleared security and called, it was 22:57, and I was told I could no longer collect the car. Despite being only three minutes before closing and having already notified them of the delay, no flexibility was offered.
As a result, I was left without transport late in the evening and had to arrange overnight accommodation at my own expense.
When I returned the next morning to collect the car, I was informed that my original booking had been cancelled as a “Non-Collection” and that I would need to rebook at an additional cost of £125.03. I explained that the delay was beyond my control and that I had kept them informed, but the charge was not waived.
In the end, I had no choice but to pay the extra fee in order to proceed with my trip. The lack of discretion, especially given the clear communication and minimal delay, was extremely frustrating and felt unfair.
I would recommend that anyone booking here is very clear about late arrival policies, as even a small, notified delay can result in significant additional charges.
The two stars are for the car being in good condition.

Da evitare come la peste. Ho preso una Fiat Panda a nolo su Surprise dal 3 al 7 febbraio 2026 a soli 28 euro. Quando arrivo in aeroporto a Malpensa, chiamo la navetta e arriva uno straniero a bordo di un mezzo sporchissimo che parla pessimamente l'italiano. Giunti in sede, prima di farmi consegnare l'auto scatto qualche foto e questo tizio, ritenendo che avessi scattato una foto a lui, pretendeva con modi arroganti di controllare la galleria del mio cellulare. Ad ogni modo, mi prendo l'auto in condizioni igieniche pessime e quando la restituisco, mi premuro di farla preventivamente lavare e di riempire il serbatoio pieno zeppo. Quando la restituisco MI CONTESTANO UN PUNTINO INVISIBILE AD OCCHIO NUDO A CAUSA DEL QUALE, SUCCESSIVAMENTE, MI ADDEBITANO 400 EURO!!!! ASSURDO! EVITATELI

Veicolo in condizioni indecenti
Mi hanno fatto pagare un supplemento per non dover riconsegnare il veicolo (cosa mai vista da nessun noleggiatore), poi mi consegnano il veicolo sporchissimo soprattutto fuori, peno di colla di adesivi e di ammaccature. La loro giustificazione è stata: così lo può riconsegnare più sporco di come l'ha ritirato!

Al momento del ritiro ci hanno detto che ci davano una macchina segnata così da non essere in giro con l'ansia di rovinare quella prenotata che era nuova di pacca; abbiamo fatto le foto ai graffi, ma poi ci hanno addebitato 600 euro per un invisibile graffio dentro la portiera che dalle foto era impossibile vedere! al momento del checkout ci hanno detto che era comunque tutto a posto e poi ci hanno trattenuto il denaro senza nemmeno avvisare. La macchina era pure sporca! State alla larga se potete (parlo della sede di Cagliari aeroporto ma anche l'ufficio centrale a cui ci siamo rivolti per chiarimenti è totalmente assente)
Alberto is a thief
Alberto of Surprice car rental Bergamo is acting like a thief. I know his name because when I collected the car he was actually very friendly, and I even asked for his name so I could leave a positive review. However, when I returned the vehicle, he suddenly tried to charge me €800 for a minor scratch — something that, based on other comments, seems to be standard practice at SurPrice.
What makes this worse is that he openly bragged in Italian to his colleague (the bald guy) about how clever he was for giving me that specific car, saying that “everyone falls for it.” How do I know? Because my wife, who was standing next to me, is Italian — even though she doesn’t look like your “typical” Italian woman.
When she confronted him, he claimed he was “just joking” and then told us he would not charge us for the supposed damage “this time” as long as we didn’t leave a negative review.
This behaviour is absolutely disgusting. I strongly urge SurPrice to take appropriate action, although I doubt they will, as Alberto seems to be a perfect example of the predatory culture within this company.
Richiesta di contanti per “chiudere un occhio” – esperienza inaccettabile
Al momento della riconsegna a Surprice Bergamo (Orio al Serio), a mio zio è stato contestato un graffio con richiesta di circa 600 €. Non avendo foto pre-noleggio, ha contestato la cosa. Dopo varie discussioni, l’addetto (ragazzo alto con occhiali) gli ha insinuato che, lasciando 150 € in contanti sul sedile, avrebbe “chiuso un occhio”. Per risparmiare il resto, mio zio ha (a malincuore) accettato, ma il comportamento è gravissimo e contrario a ogni standard. Chiedo a Surprice di investigare le pratiche del proprio personale. Sconsiglio questa filiale finché non ci saranno procedure trasparenti.

Empresa de alquiler de coches estafadora. Coches alquilado en Catania. Al dejar el vehiculo el "señor" que hace la revisión saca incidencias ya preexistestes, hace caso omiso a videos y fotos realizadas al recogerlo y lo anota como incidencias. Nos pasan una factura de 1052 euros por daños inexistentes. Nunca alquilen con esta empresa de rent a car. Trato vejatorio por parte del personal tanto revisor como en la oficina. Este tipo de empresas de caracter fraudulento y estafador no deberian de existir. Mejor pagar mas en cualquier otra empresa.

Scammed me for 800€, never did i get the deposit back, they said i couldnt use debitcard unless i paid them well above the price, which wasn't written in their policy.
So I highly advise against ever using this service even in a emergency situation....

Mai più . Auto sporca fuori e dentro, presa dopo 10 minuti dal rientro di altre persone. Cicche, carte, bottiglie ecc, senza un goccio di acqua tergivetri, e ruota sgonfia fermandomi al primo distributore. In più pagato on line con ulteriore assicurazione aggiuntiva, arrivo lì e non accettano carte di debito, anche se con i 16 numeri sovraimpressi, intestata a me, è collegata al conto corrente, morale della favola, altre 200€ da aggiungere. Un bel trucchetto che frutta molto bene, visto le altre persone al banco con lo stesso problema. Il voucher cita esattamente le seguenti condizioni : il personale al banco può accettare le seguenti carte di credito: Mastercard e Visa. La carta deve essere presente fisicamente. Non sono accettate carte prepagate- ricaricabili- e le virtuali. Ma intanto ogni 10 clienti sono 2000€🤮🤮🤮

THIEVES, BAD CHARACTER
On September 17, 2025, I arrived with my wife and kid 5 years in Naples and had hired this car rental company for 8 days; The experience started off badly because I spent 1 hour on the phone waiting for someone to answer the phone and no one answered, much less did anyone come to pick me up at the airport.
So I had to Google the location of the rental car and pay for a taxi to get there.
Once there, I asked why they weren't answering the phones and why they hadn't picked me and my family up. They told me the phone didn't ring, so they weren't responsible. I grabbed my phone and asked if the number I was calling was correct, and they said yes. I called them in front of them, and of course, no phone rang, despite saying I was on hold and to wait.
They were very rude and impolite and didn't care at all about what happened, they didn't even apologize.
We then began the rental process, and despite having purchased €60 all-risk insurance from a separate insurer, the rental car agent began very aggressively scaring me that my insurance was useless and that if I didn't take out their €400 insurance, they would take away my €1,200 deposit. I said I didn't want it, and he insisted a lot and tried everything to get me to do it, until I told him I wanted to cancel the entire process and would no longer rent anything with them, even though I had already paid €200 for the 8-day rental and that I would lose that money.
At that point, he stopped insisting and told me we were moving forward. He told me to sign a document on his phone, which he wouldn't let me read. He said he'd email it to me, and after signing, I could read it. He gave me the key to a battered, scratched FIAT PANDA and told me to get in the car. He had no interest in explaining how the car worked, much less checking its condition with him. He just told me to take pictures or videos of the car if you want.
I lost almost two hours between leaving the airport and leaving the rental car with the car.
My son and my wife waited 2 hours at the airport for me to return with the car.
Eight days later, I returned to drop off the car. Obviously, I was expecting them to try to steal my €1,200 deposit. They tried three times to claim damage not mentioned in the initial report, but I was able to prove that all the damage was already there on the day I received the car, using detailed photos and videos I had taken.
They were upset that they couldn't steal from me and ordered me and my 5-year-old son, loaded with four suitcases, to get into the car we had rented, which would then take us to the airport.
On the way to the airport, they told us they couldn't drop us off at the airport because they weren't allowed in, which is false, as any car can drop off passengers at the airport. They left me and a 5-year-old child 300 meters from the airport gate with four suitcases. This is completely unacceptable, and these gentlemen should be arrested, as they are true thieves, with bad character . Please do not use this company to rent vehicles; you will be robbed and mistreated.
Beware misleading practices
We rented a car through Surprise Car Rentals for 10 days, based on their website’s promise that all insurance was included — full coverage, theft protection, and personal insurance.
However, when I arrived to collect the car (from their local partner AUTOONE), I was told that no insurance was included and that even an attempted theft would cost me €2,500. I was pressured into buying an additional “full coverage” insurance for €417.22, just to get the protection that was already advertised on the Surprise Car Rentals website.
The situation felt very dishonest:
No transparent price list (prices were handwritten on paper)
I had to sign unclear documents on a small phone screen
No explanation was given about what I was signing
Their office was full of other customers in the same situation (during both pick-up and drop-off!)
The helpdesk of Surprise Car Rentals was unreachable
Staff were rude and even threatened to cancel all rentals if anyone complained
The car itself was dirty, had visible damage, and wasn’t even full of fuel.
I contacted Surprise Car Rentals immediately and received a generic response saying they would “investigate” — but nothing happened since then. The extra amount of €417.22 was still charged, and I never received a refund.
This company works with misleading practices and refuses to take responsibility for their partners’ actions. Be very cautious before booking with them!
I rented a car from Surprice at Bologna…
I rented a car from Surprice at Bologna Airport (BLQ) from 16.09.2025 to 22.09.2025 with a €1200 deposit. The car was returned on time, with a full tank and clean, without any new damage.
Despite this, Surprice has withheld my deposit and issued an unjustified fine. All rental conditions were fully met on my side.
I request an immediate refund of my deposit and cancellation of the fine. If this issue is not resolved promptly, I will escalate:
• Filing a chargeback with my bank
• Contacting the European Consumer Centre (ECC)
• Filing a complaint with the Italian consumer protection authority (AGCM)
All evidence (photos/videos of the car, rental agreement) is documented.
I strongly advise future customers to document the car thoroughly upon pickup and return to avoid similar issues.

I hope you read this review before you book. DO NOT BOOK with these guys, and especially do not leave any deposits!
When you arrive, they will make you wait for 30-40 minutes for no reason and then find a reason to not give you the car. That's it. If you placed a deposit, that's your fault.
Reasons can be really stupid - your license is not readable or has to be fully in English (I gave them one in English, they told me "oh, then it has to be EU license).
