System76 customer support experience

I recently had to send my laptop back in for repair, and Thomas was extremely helpful to assist me with my issue all the way through, they received my LemurPro on Monday and managed to get my laptop back up and running by performing a fresh install of FedoraWorkStation44 he preceded to tell me that the primary issue was my LemurPro’s USBC charger which originally came with my laptop only charged my laptop up to 10% support tested it on their end, and told me that my LemurPro’s charger had died and they sent me a link to amazon, for which I could purchase the same exact charger for less than what System76 was celling it for. I ultimately ended up buying the charger from System76 directly since my hands are so used to and accustomed to the feel and texture of the charger overall though, i really appreciate there rapid turnaround times

My new desktop with Pop!_OS 24.04 LTS…

My new desktop with Pop!_OS 24.04 LTS initial setup was not a problem. But within the first 2 weeks I ran into multiple issues with the Cosmic desktop. Once the fan revved up and stayed revved upon login. I power-cycled the desktop and it would not reboot fully; it hung on (initramfs). I had to run fsck to reboot it. Another time PyCharm hung while navigating settings menu and I could not kill it via the System Monitor. I closed all other apps and tried to restart via the start/restart dialog box. Again, the system failed to boot completely and hung on (initramfs).

I like the appearance and normal responsiveness of the Cosmic desktop. But I'm now wondering if it should have stayed in Beta a while longer. I'm considering switching to a new desktop environment. Customer service did not get me up and running when I was stuck on the first problem, though they responded fairly promptly to my ticket and my results from applying their suggestions.

System76 puts out a very good product.

I've loved my Darter Pro 7 since I bought it several years ago. Just bought the Launch Heavy keyboard, and am very happy with it as well.

Good machines and customer service

I bought a few laptops for engineers working on Android OS development. The build quality and performance on those was not very good. I had to switch them over to System76 Mira desktops which *have* been great. Also, while the customer service is somewhat slow, they did help me exchange these out at no charge. Overall happy, given that this is one of the few options out there for such desktops.

Pop not quite ready for prime time

Pop not quite ready for prime time. The hardware is as promised and is working almost flawlessly (I did have the thunderbolt ports fail and I had to unplug the power, hold down the power button for 60 seconds to reset them). Pop_OS is still rough around the edges and the new version should not be billed as a beginner distro for people fresh from Windows. There are too many things still missing from Cosmic... an easy firewall manager ("Firewall Configuration" can be downloaded from the Cosmic Store but doesn't run), a way to turn off the window tiling when you move close to the edge of the screen, a way to turn off the password requirement for resuming when the screen saver turns on (and the terminal command results in turning off the screen saver all together), etc. None of these are deal breakers, but are just a lot of frustrations especially to those new to linux.

Second purchase from System 76

This is my second System76 laptop. Bought my first Pop_os laptop (Galago Pro) in 2019. My son uses it daily. It still has all the original hardware and software with updates. The only hardware failure was the cord on the power supply. Good steady, reliable performance. It’s been much better than the 2 or 3 work laptops I was assigned in the same timeframe. (We aren’t running Windows- I imagine that helps a lot.)

The HW is great, missing Serial info

The HW is great, but it is missing System Serial Info, which is not coded in the Thelio MB. It makes our Ubuntu setup convoluted and time-consuming. This should be a requirement for all Thelio shipped. Thank you.

Quick, professional, reliable.

This company was very quick to respond! I had a few unique questions and requests, Stetson Snead helped tremendously. I am pleased with the equipment, it arrived neat, clean, professional. I ran gpu burn, cpu, ram, and overall machine tests - all of which passed with flying colors! Very pleased with System76!

Great support, skilled empathic personnel

Andrew was insightful and attentive. He knew practically everything needed to resolve my issue, and when questions came up that he didn't have ready answers to, he either took those them to his team or researched them himself, and followed up later. My expectations were met and exceeded. I just wish the first machine sent didn't have a flaw at the start, but the RMA process went smoothly.

I can rely on System 76.

I can rely on System 76 to assemble a computer with parts that are compatible with each other, and with Pop!_OS. They have experience with building a balanced system, and I rely on them for that as well.

Exellent service, decent product quality.

The support team service is way beyond great. Provided lots of precise and detailed information more than I inquired prior to my purchasing of a replacement heat sink for my laptop. Product delivered right on time with high quality packaging box and sponges to prevent physical damage along the way.

Good Machines and Great Customer Service

Purchase my first Linux laptop with System76 last year, a Darter Pro. A bit pricey, but it has everything I need, and I love it over my old Macbook. The only problem I had were the fans, which would turn on excessively, even during minor usage. It didn't affect performance, but it was very noticeable. Eventually the motherboard burned out, and I had to send it in for repairs.

The service rep was very kind, and reassured me that it was under warranty. They replaced the fan and motherboard, and even replaced the entire backside, since the glue that held the rubber pegs that elevate the laptop had heated off. Now the laptop runs great, very silent, and no major concerns on the software side.

Not sure if other users had a similar experience with faulty parts, but since it was under warranty, the repairs were a minor inconvenience. Overall I am very happy with my transition to Linux, and would recommend System76 to anyone who can afford the price, and isn't interested in building out their own machine.
