Don’t bother asking to speak with a coach before the first lesson

I had a bad experience with TeachMe. I filled out the form on their website at 10 PM and almost immediately I got a call. I thought it would be from the coach but it it was from a TeachMe scheduling coordinator. I asked questions about the coaches approach in working with a player of my level and when they were not able to satisfactory answer them, I asked to speak with the coach. I was told that was not a possibility and I was basically hung up on. Why can’t they let potential trainees speak with a coach? I’m not interested in signing up for a lesson even if it’s free until I know if the coach might be a fit for me.

It is completely reasonable that you want to ensure a coach is the right fit for your specific skill level before committing to a lesson. To answer your question about why we do not connect prospective students directly with coaches before booking, this policy is strictly in place for security and privacy reasons. We do not share the personal contact information of our coaches or our students until a lesson is officially booked.

Additionally, our internal team handles all the administrative coordination—like fielding inquiries at 10 PM—precisely so our coaches do not have to. This allows them to focus 100% of their time and energy on what they do best: delivering great lessons.

While our coordinators might not know a coach's specific teaching methodology offhand, they are always happy to relay your specific questions to the coach and get back to you with their answers. Save your money, take lessons from another company. This company is going to take your money. Don't sign up for lessons through this company. Get lessons from your nearest golf course.

To clarify what happened here: our platform operates on a subscription model. As outlined clearly during the initial checkout process, subscriptions automatically renew to ensure uninterrupted access to the platform. If an account isn't canceled before the next billing cycle, the system automatically processes the standard renewal charge. Because your subscription was still active on your billing date, the charge went through as scheduled.

I want to directly address your concern that we "bank" on users forgetting to cancel. We believe in transparency, which is why our subscription terms are stated upfront before any purchase is made. Our goal is to provide ongoing value that our users enjoy, not to catch anyone off guard with hidden fees.

I also hear your frustration regarding the consistent answers from our support team. We enforce our cancellation and refund policies equally across the board for all users. When a renewal charge occurs because an account wasn't canceled in time, we are required to follow our Terms of Service, which state that these charges are non-refundable. We know a firm "no" isn't the outcome you wanted, and it can feel inflexible, but this consistency ensures we are treating every single customer fairly. Thank you.

Money grab. I did not know it was a monthly subscription. I called explaining that I did not know about the subscription and they said that there was nothing they could do about it. THEY ARE THIEVES

Edited to add: Apology accepted. I'm still going to leave this up and encourage people to read your apology, so they can see how you handle data---and that took responsibility for a mistake. I appreciate that. The texts have now stopped. Thank you.

I started a profile on TeachMe.to as an ESL teacher. It began slowly, with the texts telling me I had to download the app onto my phone, so I did. I continued working on my profile, the texts became more and more frequent. Almost always from different phone numbers, reminding me to finish my profile. I finally finished my profile, just to shut them up.

Then they began texting up to 3-4 four times a DAY to ask if I need help with anything.

Yesterday, I requested from the only number that seems to have a human behind it that these texts please stop and that I would contact them if I needed any assistance.

Today, I got SIX texts from them, all from different phone numbers, so I have no real way of blocking them, other than changing my phone number or entering the Witness Protection Program.

I'm not surprised to see Airbnb, Yelp, and Doordash were behind this travesty, but Udemy? They should be ashamed of themselves. I may not sign up for any more classes with Udemy either if they support this.

I'm now concerned about what they may have installed on my devices, since I have no real way of forcing them to remove my data from their platform. All I can do is sign out and block my profile.

I don't know what else they be offering, but data-scraping and harassment seem to be on the menu. I don't think I will be able to get rid of them completely short of changing my phone number and abandoning my email address.

While they don't have any terribly sensitive data (I hadn't gotten around to linking them to my bank account for tutor payment), they still have plenty of my data to do whatever they please with, and God only knows what they may have downloaded onto my devices. No legitimate company texts you over 100 times in a month.

Stay away from these people unless you want to be hounded multiple times a day, every day, to do more, get more involved, give them more information, etc. It's like being evangelized by a really bad religion.

Hi Jennifer. First and foremost, I want to sincerely apologize for the overwhelming volume of text messages you received. You are absolutely right; receiving multiple texts a day is incredibly frustrating, and that is not the onboarding experience we want for our coaches.

To explain what happened here: our platform uses an automated messaging system to help guide new coaches through the profile setup process. Because these messages are routed through a standard third-party SMS service, they are sent using a rotating pool of phone numbers. When you asked our team member to stop the texts, your number should have been manually removed from that automated sequence immediately. I am very sorry that this did not happen. We are investigating why that request slipped through the cracks and are heavily reviewing our automated communication limits so nobody is hounded this way again.

I also want to address your concerns about your data and devices directly and clearly. We take security very seriously, and we want to put your mind at ease:

- App Security: Our application is a standard, secure app vetted by official app stores. It does not install malware, spyware, or any unauthorized software on your devices.
- Data Privacy: We do not scrape, sell, or misuse your data. The information you provided was used strictly to create your tutoring profile and facilitate your onboarding.
- Company Ties: TeachMe.to is an independent company. While our platform may have team members or investors who have worked at other major tech companies in the past, those companies have no involvement in our day-to-day operations or our SMS routing.

You absolutely have the right to have your data entirely removed from our platform, and you certainly do not need to change your phone number or abandon your email address to get rid of us.

Rest assured that we will process a full account deletion. This will wipe your profile data from our servers and permanently place your phone number on our global "Do Not Contact" list.

We appreciate you bringing this broken communication loop to our attention, and we apologize again for the stress it caused.

I don't mean this as an attack

I don't mean this as an attack. I've been a supporter of your platform and have referred several people to take lessons with you.

However, I've noticed some changes that have affected my perception. From my experience, it seems the platform has started to lose some of the quality and personal touch it was known for. I've also heard from a few coaches who haven't received payment, and some people have reported being charged without their consent, which is concerning.

I don't know the exact reason, but it feels like the company may have shifted to hiring advisors or staff with different priorities, possibly including people connected to competitors or overseas teams. Whether that's true or not, the overall experience doesn't feel the same.

During 2024–2025, I genuinely believed this was one of the best platforms. It was incredibly user-friendly, stood behind its staff, and it was difficult to find negative reviews because of how well it treated both coaches and users. I hope the company can return to those standards.

- Our Support Team: You mentioned a shift in staffing. Like many growing companies, we are proud to work with a dedicated, global support team to ensure we can assist our users and coaches across all hours and time zones. They are deeply committed to our platform's success and our community—they have no ties to competitors.

I recently completed 5 golf lessons…

I recently completed 5 golf lessons through TeachMe.to with a coach in Cincinnati and honestly couldn't be happier with the experience. The whole process was seamless from start to finish: finding a coach, booking, and paying. My coach was really good at breaking things down in a way that actually clicked. And when I had a question for the support team, they were quick and super helpful. Already planning to book more lessons. Highly recommend!

Horrible customer service

Horrible customer service, after me booking 4 sessions, I made sure I was done booking. So I thought, the system charged me 4 more times automatically, I contacted them for a refund but they wound not offer one. Then they gave me the 4 credits which I have but done need. The. When I went to use it and booked a session, the system charged me again for the session when I had 4 credits. I contacted them again for that one charge and refund, they said they can’t do anything about it. Crooks
