1 star would be generous. Complete silence regarding financial compensation from them. Don’t seem to care about the mental wellbeing of their residents, only how much money they can pocket. If other private accommodations can reply quickly to it’s residents and relieve them from their contracts, why can’t you.

This company is all about making money off students. The rooms, kitchen and bathrooms are dirty and dated. My flatmate regularly had problems with bugs in her room. Things are never fixed when they should be eg. the washing machine in my flat. In addition, their response to the Coronavirus crisis had been disgusting. They have refused to release students from their contracts despite being advised to the leave the property from the university. They are now ignoring their students by leaving emails unanswered, and the office on-site is closed. This company claims to prioritise the wellbeing of students above all else, but how they can claim this is laughable.

WORST COMPANY EVER. THEY SAY THEY CARE ABOUT WELLBEING... THIS IS AN OUTRIGHT LIE. IT FEELS LIKE THEY HAVE BEEN IGNORING THEIR TENANTS EVER SINCE COVID-19.

This is a global student housing company (The Student Housing Company / GSA) that quite simply:
-ignored student emails
-not answering phone calls
-not telling us anything regarding coronavirus and rent
-eventually created a portal where students can upload a reason why they would like early release however not making this portal known to majority of the tenants.
-They won’t even review a students case unless you send your complete student loan (they want it all, quite a lot of students blurred out the maintenance loan... they were like nah we need to see it all)
-Quite a lot of students also made the point of how their parents have been furloughed or become unemployed... The Student Housing Company then demanding proof of your parents situation. A simple letter wouldn’t do, they want income details... they want to see everything that majority of ppl feel does not concern them.
-Then we have lots of students who have talked about medical conditions... one girl has asthma they asked for proof, she sent in the inhaler box which states her name and inhaler type which is usually enough to show u have it but they said please can you get a note from your GP or hospital.... then there was another case of a girl whose dad has cancer... she sent proof... The Student Housing Company said nah sorry, this document could have been faked, we need more proof even though it was a doctors certificate showing her dad having leukaemia..
-Then the other day the company added an offers area to their portal... they offered some ppl £83 off their £2,235.35 rent... obvs the ppl that got that then rejected the offer.
-They then added a follow up offer for some ppl where they offered 7 nights free in any of our global accomodations which is that's worth about £170 to them... they then also said if u accept you are put in a prize draw where two lucky tenants win a holiday to japan... on us... obvs only two ppl can get it... no one gonna bet 2k.
-Now they have decided to reduce rent by 50% as a rent discount because we are not living there HOWEVER they said the contract remains intact but they won't let us return. I'm sorry but if they want to remove that right they need to let us completely off the contract.

GENUINELY A TRULY DISGUSTING COMPANY PROFITING OFF OF STUDENTS DURING THIS PANDEMIC.

Where a contract is not performed as agreed, the CMA considers that consumer protection law will generally allow consumers to obtain a refund.

In particular, for most consumer contracts the CMA would expect a consumer to be offered a full refund where:

a business has cancelled a contract without providing any of the promised goods or services;

no service is provided by a business, for example because this is prevented by Government public health measures;

a consumer cancels, or is prevented from receiving any services, because Government public health measures mean they are not allowed to use the services.

However before Coronavirus I would've given 4 stars. Being able to have a 3 hour shower without the hot water running out was truly a luxury so thankyou.

Unfair handling of tenancy agreements due to the pandemic, bad responses or lack of responses. Friendly staff but the head office is the problem here.

Absolutely disgusting company who don’t care about students and only money!! Terrible service and ignored students for weeks leaving us anxious and worried sick. No help from them in financial hardship. Only care about getting more money out of you!! Total rip off! If you’re a student I would not recommend! Rats always at that back of building and smell of weed!

The way this student housing company has handled the Current situation Of COVID19 is appalling. Our university’s Closed and we were encouraged to go home. Despite the fact that I haven’t and won’t be living in my accommodation for the last 4 months of the academic year, the company still demanded that I pay full rent. However, after a combined effort of many residents we managed to get some money off. I feel like the full process has been made very difficult and unfair. Once again us students have been made to feel like we have been taken advantage of.

Bad company!

exploiting students for a loan THEY HAVE TO PAY BACK is not cool. because tshc have financial problems (not our fault) they are making us pay for a service we cannot use! and we only get a small % off if we ONLY go to our flat to collect our stuff if we go there otherwise we have to pay the full amount until july for a room we’re not in. poor communication, unfair treatment and i could go on. it’s one rule for one and one rule for another with this company.

I lived here for a year as a student and although the staff are friendly, I did struggle to get any maintenance problems solved.
The mattress I was provided with was extremely uncomfortable and had springs sticking out. In January I reported it due to it giving me back pain. By February I was reassured it was on its way and I never received it (it is May now and no update).
We were never provided with a floor broom to sweep up (we asked for one but again, heard nothing) and with there being 2 hoovers for the whole building to share, this made it difficult to keep it clean.
I felt everything I reported was ignored and for £127 per week this is not a service I would recommend.

Absolutely awful company. Do not care about their tenants at all and comes across as if they’re only interested in money. During Covid 19 many people are facing financial hardship and anxieties. But the student housing company have made a very scary time much much WORSE. Making mental health worse with anxiety and stress due to no correspondence and ignoring our complaints, emails, calls etc. Also forcing students to pay rent for rooms and facilities they cannot access due to government laws. Would not recommend at all! Plus my room always stunk of weed and after reporting it they did nothing about it so I was paying thousands for a room / courtyard stinking of drugs!!

My stay with The Student Housing Company was cut short after Covid-19 meant our Universities encouraged us to return to our permanent home adresses.
As a student, I rely on a part time job and my student loans in order to support myself independently. For some of us, like myself, this meant financing a second address on top of paying the fees for my place with TSHC in order to be closer to family and isolate away from the city (as advised by government officials and university staff).
The lockdown and isolation measures have made difficult circumstances for many, not just myself. However, TSHC throughout this event have shown no genuine care or concern for how this has affected their tenants and instead have used this as an oppurtunity to receive rent installments for utilities not used and spaces not occupied.
I know I speak for a majority when I say (bar welcoming and friendly ON SITE staff) this company does not look out for the student's welfare but rather their own financial gain.
