Wanted to support local business, but.....
***UPDATE****
Received a response on the BBB. You can go there and check it out. Basic, customer service copy paste routine, amateur hour over there.
My response to it: Your machines have a known carburetor issue. Decent companies issue recalls to take care of their customers before they spend 125% of the value of the machine to fix it, poor manufacturers hide behind their dealer network like you do. I am in sales, there is no way I’d show a customer your product in my showroom, and as a business owner, I’d be turned off carrying your product as all it does is give me a bad name when I charge customers for things that shouldn’t be released from quality control. Add another $500 to the cost of this machine, and it is back in my garage from the dealer today. $80 carburetor, $150 labor and almost $300 in other labor diagnoses, including two trips back to pick it up, 2 sessions of hand shoveling my driveway and public sidewalk. I’m embarrassed for you, him, and myself for actually paying to take this machine back. A decision I regret already, am sure to regret by the end of this winter, and surely by the start of next. I hope others can find this review beneficial, I am not alone.
Original Review:
There’s a problem with a company that has a phone number for customer service that redirects its’ customers issues away from the source and onto their dealers or the consumer themselves, just try and talk to someone in this company to help resolve an issue, or for any help. Their automated system basically tells you to go away, and thanks for choosing Toro.... My garage is stuck housing an expensive snowblower that never ran well from go, has needed an expensive carb rebuild or replacement every year owned, and now has the gear box blown up after about 20 hours. Of course it’s past the warranty which I’m sure is worth nothing to begin with, coming from a company that completely removes itself from dealing upset customers who are stuck with their inferior product. An inferior product that could only be made with inferior components, development, assembly, and somehow the folks at Toro mashed this all up and delivered a home run. Let’s call the warranty “2 years or 20 uses”....whichever comes first. During this window I’d calculate the cost of ownership to be about 100$ per use, if, and that’s a big if something doesn’t break. I’m right about 200$ per use at this point if I crunch the numbers. “Must’ve got a lemon”, you say. I wish, but I’ve had this conversation with dealers, owners and if I could talk to the source they might even admit it, but they all have the same problems. Nice. Once again the consumer gets stuck paying full price to beta test with no resolution by the manufacture. Stay clear of this company, unless you like tinkering with cheap components, beta testing their faults, paying top dollar to fund their RD team. In case anyone at Toro cares, I’ll save you from sending the insta-response that I’ve seen and heard everywhere, and tell you that I followed the operating, startup, shut down, storage, break in (if I’m even there yet) instructions to a T, every year, same results, so save that standard response for someone else. You’d make a happy customer by me from sending someone to my house to take this away so I don’t have to pay for disposal. I think your product has caused enough punishment to me.
Do not use the Toro online store
Do not use the Toro online store; it's and customer service communication doesn't exist. Equipment may be good but I definitely wouldn't deal with the online store. Timely shipping of goods is a nightmare, when you try to cancel due to extreme delays it is impossible to get them to acknowledge anything and get your money back. Literally like dealing with a guy in his garage. The site and processes are not properly set up, terrible.
Bought a Toro 29043 last year and…
Bought a Toro 29043 last year and seemed a great mower, if a little expensive at over £300 but the big rear wheels helped a lot on my dodgy lawn. Now the real wheels are falling appart inside and rattling like a goodun. Online reviews show this is a standard problem with this rubbish and toro usually deny any liability for any problems as warranty doesnt seem to cover anything (See horrific reviews online most USA) Toro UK support doesnt appear to exist either as I am still waiting. Strange there are no UK reviews showing up though I suspect google has been paid off in this instance. I wouldnt touch them with a bargepole ever again or anything the yanks sell.
