I have been using Triodos for several years now and am completely dissatisfied with it.
Payments take too long to go through. Sometimes it takes several hours to show if someone has transferred money, which is too slow for a modern bank. This is awful
if you are trying to pay for a product privately and the recipient can’t see any payment.
If you do not use your account for approximately 90 days, they threaten to close it, despite paying them to simply have the account.
Their ISA interest rates seem to get worse every year, and their terms and conditions just keep making things worse for customers.
In terms of customer service, they seem indifferent and there is a complete lack of care for customers.
I signed up to be green, and do my bit for the planet, but I’ve found it difficult to use the current account due to how slow transactions are, and the services simply aren’t as good now.
A bank with green investments is a wonderful idea, but Triodos need to improve their banking and the way they treat customers, if they want to change the planet.

I have always found Triodos staff helpful and incredibly patient when I have needed help by phone.
WhenI passed the facts about money which I should have received and had not,the full amount was restored to my account with no further effort on my part.

We've been customers for 15+ years, and of late everyday banking has become unbearable. Forms, forms and more forms just to conduct normal tasks. Phone payments have now been cancelled and despite notifying them of our wish to remove account limits 2 months in advance, that was not implemented (because another form hasn't been completed!) preventing us from making important business payments by a deadline. There is no personal touch, in fact staff have been outright rude as well as being unhelpful. Triodos need to refocus their priorities. Avoid!

The world is an increasingly complicated place. Trying to be an ethical consumer is tough when lots of companies greenwash their credentials.
I had been wanting to change my bank for a few years now. Despite being with one of the major financial institutions in the UK I was becoming more and more uneasy on how my money was being invested.
After extensive research I decided to switch to Triodos (it was easy to set up an account) and haven't looked back. Customers receive regular updates on the ethical projects the bank supports. No more worrying about whether my hard-earned money is used to fund wars or fossil fuels.
Unlike some other banks there is a £3 charge per month to be an account holder. It might seem anathema to directly give a bank £3 but the rewards so outweigh this fee which is under what you would pay to get a hot drink in a cafe.
For £3 you will be choosing a bank with an ethos of doing the least amount of harm to our planet.

There is work to do to make the digital services and app features compete with other banks like Starling but they are much better than other large companies (like Amex for example) and obviously the products are trustworthy and ethical which is why I chose to save and invest with Triodos. So far I haven’t been disappointed.

I had a terrible experience with Triodos. I opened an account based on the positive reviews and expected it to work well compared to my building society account. At first, everything seemed fine — I deposited small amounts and made small transfers to my other bank accounts without any issues.
However, as soon as I deposited £20,000 and tried to transfer it to another savings account, Triodos blocked the transaction. They claimed it was to protect me from scams and for my own security, but in reality, they simply held my money and wouldn’t let me use it.
Avoid Triodos at all costs — they make it extremely difficult to access your own funds.

I feel very privileged to have been able to see our Triodos Manager giving his wonderful interview. I was in tears because I had to remove my current account with Triodos because of fraud and feel that it is still too dangerous to return, which I'd love to do. I am so pleased to see you are doing a lot to help children, but as an 'oldie' - and there are many of us - I'd like to suggest that maybe Triodos would consider investing in the elderly as well. A lot of the Retirement schemes are I fear, are exploiting the elderly. Because I personally now need to go and live in a community such as these schemes provide, I have been exploring them, but cannot say I trust them. Do Triodos support any of these schemes - ie McCarthy Stone, Churchill and others ? Or can you recommend any of them to me to see if they would suit me? As I always say - keep up the good work! Thank you from my heart for all you are doing.

Overall, Triodos is pretty decent. They offer ethical banking through an app which is still a little clunky but has kept up with what I've needed it for. Sending or receiving money can take a little longer than mainstream banks, but it always gets to where it needs to go. My bank card doesn't always work, for example in trying to deposit money at the post office or trying to transfer money into my lottery account, which is a little frustrating, but the biggest issue I've found is that I can't make payments to credit cards with other banks, I've had to set-up a 'bridge' account with another bank to transfer money into the make the necessary payments. I've also found I can't link my accounts with third-party apps, such as clearscore.
They do indeed charge £3 a month for the current account, but this was clearly disclosed and explained in the account opening process.
As for the interest rates they offer on their savings accounts and fixed-rate accounts, they're pretty decent, not the best, but not the worst either.
None of these things are bad enough that I'd consider leaving Triodos just yet, but there's certainly room for some improvements. Perhaps I'm just used to mainstream banks and the unethical (but efficient) services they offer! On the balance of things, I'd rather keep my money with Triodos and suffer these small inconveniences.
