Poor customer service

I can’t review the product because it wasn’t the correct fit for my vehicle….. however I can review the customer service I received.

Poor, unprofessional and what I would consider aggressive. They weren’t interested in the information I provided that showed the contradictions and inaccuracies in the description, instead they went on the attack, made assumptions that I didn’t do everything I could to check compatibility with the information THEY provided. As it happens I actually phone a main dealer and asked if there were any variations to this car for this component.

They tried to retain half the purchase price to cover “postage and fees”! What postage costs £27? I know the cost of things has gone up but I also know the postage was at very most £5

If you have a business and you’ve been shafted in the past by customers or incurred costs due to customer error don’t take it out on the next customer, they may have a valid point and maybe, just maybe, you could be wrong.

Again with the excuses and trying to blame the customer. The listing stated that the image containing the dimensions “was for illustration purposes only”, so the only thing I had to go with was the clear statement that it would fit my particular vehicle. I phoned the dealer who confirmed there were no variations on that particular part for that model. No eBay return rules were broken and yes of course I wrote a negative review on eBay.

My reason for return was chosen as it best matches the situation, not because I have an in depth knowledge of how eBay returns work and the costs involved.

Again I point to your unwillingness to except you could be wrong. But you seem to believe you know more than the MAIN DEALER!

We apologise for any inconvenience caused and would like to address the concerns you raised. It's important for us to ensure the highest level of customer satisfaction, so we have investigated the matter further. We deeply regret any confusion caused.

This was an eBay purchase on one of our ATD reverse cameras. Our data on the fitment of the bespoke range of reverse cameras is very accurate as we've been doing them for over a decade but as with all vehicle parts, variants can apply. This is why we have a big red poster informing buyers to read the listing and then in the listing, it has an OEM cross reference, pictures, dimensions and another warning to check before you buy, because as we note, variants apply. You always want to cross reference when buying any car parts as variants apply. Whilst we do our best to make sure our product compatibility listings are as accurate as possible, there may still be exceptions. Different vehicle shapes and specs may require different cameras.

Ultimately it is the buyers responsibility to check that the product matches the vehicle it is to be fitted to prior to purchase. All we can do is put as much information as we can into the listing and hope that customers read it. We appreciate the layout on eBay, depending on the device you are viewing the listing on, is not always the best on eBay.

The partial refund on eBay was done because a false return reason had been opened in order to obtain a free returns label from us. You claimed we sent the wrong part, when indeed we sent the part that you ordered. Sadly the impact on the seller is large when this happens as they lose out on the sale, the commissions on the sale, the original postage costs, the return postage costs, eBay defect costs and other admin costs. This is the reason for the partial refund being used on your return. Had the correct return reason been used, you actually would have received a free UPS return label from us and a full refund been offered. Instead you decided that you would use a method that you knew would have a free returns label provided by eBay. You also left us negative feedback for the transaction which eBay removed due to the abuse of the eBay returns system. The partial refund tool is given by eBay to sellers to cover costs but buyers will always be covered by eBay and you did receive the remaining refund back from them as part of their buyer guarantee.

In the end, the order was returned and you was given a full refund.

I purchased a car play module for my Golf 2013 MK7 and I can say that my personal experience dealing with James was excellent. From start to end he was there and helped me throughout the process making sure that I was able to do this as easy as possible.
I saved £££ on CarPlay and am over the moon

Found their presence on eBay - great service

Found their presence on eBay, noticed they had a website and therefore called their store, discussed my requirements and purchased the items I needed. I found them to be incredibly polite especially as I knew I was being a pain in the backside with my endless questions (I'm a newbie in regards to reverse cameras) but they all had the patience of a saint, and I'm now awaiting my items to be delivered and for me to install and experience. No complaints whatsoever and I'm quite surprised and saddened by the negative reviews left on here by others (to be honest).

Absolutely brilliant Company to deal…

Absolutely brilliant Company to deal with, quality products at a great price with super fast delivery.

It doesn’t stop there though as when I had problems installing due to a lack of electrical knowledge the advice they gave me over the phone was priceless. Unlike a lot of sellers these also have a professional fitting bay so have the necessary knowledge to provide advice and information.

Review of my experience purchasing from Audio Tech Direct

In keeping with Trust Pilot's guidelines. I have all of the email evidence to substantiate this review

I do not usually write reviews, but in this instance, I feel that people should be aware of the service that Audio Tech Direct provide, and the way they treat people who purchase from them. I won’t say customers, as in my opinion, they do not treat people like customers.

I wanted to replace the head unit in my Mercedes S class 350 W220. Before doing so I did extensive research and what was available. I decided to purchase the equipment from Audio Tech Direct. This was mainly on the basis that they are based in the UK, therefore if there were any problems, I would be dealing with UK based support and receive a good customer service…..how wrong I was!

I purchased an Erisin Android head unit. Before doing so, I took pictures of the existing head unit including the rear view and the fibre optic cabling looms. This was so they could identify what kit I needed to purchase from them. They gave me a list of kit to purchase, this included a cabling loom at a cost of £29.99 that they said I may or may not need, but if I did not need it, they would refund the money.

The head unit is now working great; however, it took weeks of toing and froing to get it working.

I was paying an audio engineer by the hour to fit the unit. When he first installed it, there was no sound. I contacted them and received an email from Thomas who although he was very helpful, the information he supplied did not work.

I then started to deal with James Jackson and this is where the problems really started. The equipment arrived without installation instructions. When I questioned this, James told me that no audio equipment comes with installation instructions and never has. This is despite their web site advertising that the equipment they supply comes with full installation instructions.

As I was paying by the hour for the equipment to be fitted, I thought it would be best to let the audio engineer talk directly to James. Although James tried to help, the information he gave was trial and error. Suggesting using different inputs and outputs on the connections from the wiring loom. None of what he suggested solved the problem.

The audio engineer questioned if the UGE-F0B01 MOST fibre optic retention amp RCA adaptor, could be faulty or incompatible with my vehicle. James’s response was that they had never had a faulty part and it was unlikely. He suggested trying other connections but again, none of his suggestions worked.

Eventually he agreed that the part may be faulty. However, he first of all asked me to return the part for them to test to see f it was actually faulty. When I argued that this was unreasonable, given the time and expense that I had already incurred, he agreed to send a replacement part, but forced me to purchase it at a cost of £99.99. He said that I would be refunded if the part was actually faulty.
When the replacement part arrived, it was a different part to the original. As soon as it was connected, it worked.

I spoke with James at length and asked if they were prepared to compensate me in some way, as I had incurred additional costs due to the part being either faulty or incompatible.

All he was prepared to do was to quote their terms and conditions at me, saying that they are not responsible for my installation costs.

I wrote to their managing director Stuart Pope. Instead I got a patronising email from James Jackson, informing me that Mr Pope does not speak to the public, that is why he employs staff to deal with issues. James again reiterated that they are not responsible for my installation costs. He even suggested that he had “done me a favour” by giving me a “free of charge” delivery of the replacement part and collection of the faulty/incompatible part!!!

When the faulty part and the cabling loom that was not needed (it was not even taken out of the box) were returned. They refunded me the £99.99 for the faulty/incompatible part, but refused to refund me the £29.99 for the cabling loom that was not needed. They told me that I had returned the wrong cabling loom and that it was damaged. I threatened them with legal action and eventually they refunded the £29.99.

I work in the service industry and know what good and bad service is. I also know what is reasonable and unreasonable when dealing with problems and complaints.

The only thing I need to complete the installation is a DAB aerial. Audio Tech Direct supply them, but I would not spend another penny with them after this extremely unpleasant experience.

I have ordered a DAB aerial direct from Erisin in China

I would firstly like to apologise that the part you received, which when returned, was found to be faulty, we obviously do not want to be sending faulty products however as it can be with tech products, faults can occur. We have over 10,000 parts in stock and not everything can be checked before it goes out sadly.

In this instance our customer service tried to resolve the issue with you, we ran though lots of troubleshooting with you whilst with you on the phone. The information provided is based on the knowledge we have of the product, extensive vehicle knowledge and support provided by our factory that produce the products. The majority of car audio equipment is not supplied with instructions, we do not have this detailed on our listing, as you suggest, unless the item has written instructions for it, typically fibre optic retention harnesses are not supplied with instructions as they are not required as cables are labelled. Also worth pointing out, if you have an installer with you who charges by the hour, then they should really know what they are doing without being consulted by a retailer on the phone.

It is not unreasonable to request a item be returned before a replacement is issued this again would be the case with any product of value purchased we need to be sure the item needs to be replaced before we send a replacement as some people may be dishonest and not return the original part. We could not rule out an installation issue and not a product fault so the majority of companies out there will not send out parts on a say so as this would result in multiple items being sent out when in fact it is not the products that are the issue.

The DPD express free shipping gesture of goodwill was offered for next day shipping as you were very insistent you could not wait for the normal free shipping of 48 hours. This was certainly not forced upon you as we cannot obtain money from you without you giving the details for the payment to be submitted.

The returned items that came back were not not the products that were asked to be returned. You had returned a cable from the head unit accessories and not the Comand cable that should have been returned. It was also damaged and should not have been refunded normally, however the decision to refund was made as taking a loss on the product was more beneficial to put an end to the transaction.

You was refunded in full for the parts returned and you received a replacement on an express delivery service. You are ultimately upset because you feel we should be paying for your installation but as our website T&C's say, we are not responsible for any installation cost under any circumstances. This is clearly detailed in our terms and conditions which are available to read on our website prior to placing any order. You also click a box to confirm you accept these T&C's when you purchase.

We are certainly sorry that the product failed first time around. We feel we did our best to rectify the issue in a swift way. Sadly one of the negatives of mail order is that it is not a shop for an easy walk in exchange. We are mail order and we use mail order to send goods and sadly that takes time. It all balanced out in the end and although it gave us a loss on the transaction, it ended up with everything working for you, which is what we want.

Initial excellent experience tainted

What was a close to perfect experience in the beginning quickly turned a bit sour. Delivery was super quick! I was very keen to get the headunit fitted in my car only to find out the connection wasn't compatible to my car. When I let the seller know, I was told an adaptor had been provided in the box, however it hadn't. It took a few too many messages to finally get them to agree to send an adaptor FOC as my only other option would've been to return the item because the adaptor was never present

The head unit you purchased are physically checked a few times before they go out so when you said a cable was not present, it was met by questions because the manifest checks done on it will always show it was. All we asked was if you could double check as you wasn't even aware it came with the cable in question. In the end, we did send another out for you, which we thought was a quick solution to solve your issue at our own cost.

EU buyers avoid!

Don’t bother… if you are in the EU all their products become way too expensive!

Purchased a PbA headunit for my Mk6…

Purchased a PbA headunit for my Mk6 Golf. Package arrived in a couple of days. Good email communication from the company in terms of my orders progress. Product had clear instructions for installation which were pictured on the website, wire wise everything I needed was in the box. Couple of YouTube videos to learn how to take apart the car trim and it was easy to do with no prior experience. I installed it and it works great. It's obviously not OEM, but it suits the car, the plastics match the dash well, and the functionality works great as well i.e. parking sensors work, Sat navigation works, Bluetooth, fm radio, CD player, etc. I didn't go for installing the DAB ariel, I don't live in an area with strong DAB signal and you have to be realistic. Most aftermarket car DAB ariels only work effectively in strong signal areas, and with Android auto/ Bluetooth I can easily stream BBC six music and other DAB channels via an app on my phone.

Great service and advice - RDC330 works fabulously

I was given very helpful and accurate advice, specific to my car and the audio I wanted - including that I would probably need a two into one aerial lead (I did)

Order was taken on the phone and delivered the next day.

Fitted exactly as I was told it would and works perfectly.

Do not buy off these crooks sold me one…

Do not buy off these crooks sold me one of their multi media units and dab receiver, cds keep skipping just cheap Chinese rubbish, expected me to pay postage to return it and would only repair the one they sent me, the dab receiver is useless, keeps breaking up and losing signal, avoid avoid avoid avoid avoid !!!

The option would be for our technical department to see if they could offer a repair. This was offered despite this being outside of our warranty period. As detailed in our terms and conditions you are responsible for the return of items when out of warranty.

All we could do here was offer to take a look at the unit for you. You never returned it to us so sadly we will never know the true situation of the product and if it was actually easily solvable.
