To say I'm disappointed is an understatement! I'd give the company no stars if i could! In May of last year, I bought literally thousands of £s of Birds and Bees turf from this company - 80 square meters. We prepared the ground and laid the turf as instructed at great expense. It very soon became obvious that we didn't get what we paid for! I immediately contacted the company for advice and thereafter kept in touch on a very regular basis including sending photos of what in effect was a wasteland of unwanted weeds - weeds that we have nowhere else on our property! (The company offered us a bag of seed at the outset which we scattered as per instructions) Over a year has gone by with approximately 2 white campion in 80 square metres of weeds! "We can't refund after this length of time' was their response and then an offer of more seed!!! This despite the fact we continually followed their advice and it was agreed we wait til this year to see if any improvement! They are now obviously using the passage of time as their 'get out clause'. Avoid this company like the plague unless you have money to waste. I don't want any platitudes in response, either. This would just be a PR stunt! I will explore other avenues to get some sort of recompense.

Shocking service and terrible product/ ordered yellow rattle plugs, which arrived looking a bit bedraggled. I should have complained straight away… but planted them and imagine my surprise when they all (several dozen) died. Zero interest or help from customer service who then turned actively belligerent. If I could give negative stats, I would.

On the strength of the images and description on the Harrowden meadow mat webpage ( and their published feedback which was all highly rated ) I bought five square metres of their Heritage range that grew into an unkemp , straggly and untidy mass of clover and grasses . It was laid down in March and has no evidence of any sign of the rich colours as shown on the website .
I contacted the organisation and sent over some photos , and was told that this was normal growth and to be expected at this time of year, and to remove any grass to enable any other species to flourish…… indeed .
It is only fit for the skip and restart from scratch for that’s all section of the garden .
All in all , a complete and utter waste of money , and have awarded 1 star as the turf was delivered on time . Sincerely hope this remains in the rules of feedback by being free , frank , open and honest . So top tip , look before you leap .

We had a look at a few turf companies and chose Harrowdeturf, the website was easy to navigate and place an order. We ordered on Monday night for the Friday delivery. Got a call next day asking if we would like an earlier delivery slot as they were in our area but as we were not available until the Friday kept it as it was. Delivery stated between 8am and 8pm. Delivery was prompt at 8am, and right outside our gate! We thought due to the position of where our house was it would be curbside so a gate delivery was a bonus. The delivery driver was knowledgeable and explained to my husband how to care for the turf once it was laid. Now the turf is down after it easily being put in place the garden looks great. Definitely wouldn't hesitate to use them again.

I bought several dozen yellow rattle plugs from Harrowden/Turfonline earlier this month to help control grass growth in a newly establishing meadow. Payment etc was all taken promptly and delivery arranged for the end of the first week in June (3 weeks ago). it was delayed by a day or two but the plugs seemed ok but a little dry on arrival. I went ahead and planted them.

All but 2 have died so I have paid about £35 per plug. I expected some attrition but it is clear I should have refused delivery when they arrived a day late.

To my disappointment, my contact request through the company website was ignored. I also filled out a customer feedback form that laid out my concerns. No response. It was only when I contacted the company through their instagram that I got any answer. They asked lots of questions about how and where I had planted but these seemed to be to try to establish that I had messed up. We seem to have concluded I’ve done nothing wrong other than accept plugs that I should have rejected. All I’m now getting from them is a repeated pasted line ‘ I am not able to advise further. I have responded and tried to help‘… but I’ve received zero advice and absolutely no help.

Maybe I’m simply unlucky but I guess I should have sent the plugs back on delivery. It has been a really expensive mistake dealing with this company, compounded by the rubbish and rude response from their customer service. I hope anyone else dealing with them gets a better experience. I certainly wouldn’t spend money with them again.

One to scratch off the suppliers list!!! Website looks the part but I wish I'd checked out the reviews first.
As an experienced landscaper and designer we often use sedum for roofs. I used Harrowden Enviromat this time as I wanted mats rather than trays. What a mistake! Out of 35 mats, 4 were of an acceptable standard. The mats were bone dry and stressed, full of weeds, massively missing growing media and patchy to say the least. Harrowden state they send the mats out with 95% coverage, we have little over 70% at best!!
When challenged, Harrowden says its because the mats are young and they will develop. Maybe they would if they had something other than plastic mesh to grow on!! Avoid this company or be disappointed!

I have twice bought online from Harrowden turf's online shop turfonline.co.uk and after my first disappointing batch of sedum carpet, I now wish I had not given them a second chance. I bought my first delivery of sedum carpet from them last year (2023), when it arrived I was disappointed that the rolls where very dried out and full of red brick and very little soil. Anyone who knows a little about sedum will realise that the red brick is just a cheaper way of adding a substrate than paying for soils. I laid the living roof in a few days and it took that long to unroll all the sedum before I realised just how bad some of the rolls where. On there site it shows a lovely roll of green sedum and they claim it has 95% coverage. This was certainly not the case, in general I would say the maximum coverage is around 75% but on many full rolls (and I have many many pictures) it was more like 20% and most of the substrate soils just crumbled to bits. The service I got from them was even worse, apparently you are supposed to not accept the delivery of 8 pallets full of sedum rolls unless you are happy with it - Well, has anyone tried to tell a delivery driver (who delivered really late on a Friday evening) that you need to unroll 600+ rolls of sedum blanket to check the quality is ok, that's right!.. it isn't going to happen, even if the delivery had turned up on time, the drivers simply unload as quickly as they can and get going. They are not waiting for anyone to check the product. And from the sides - the rolls look sort of ok. On that job we had to purchase an extra 2 pallets of sedum to cover the really bad stuff from the first delivery, I gave them the second chance as it was very hot in summer and I thought maybe this was why it was dropping to bits...

I was wrong!

Roll on March 2024, it is cold and wet and I have just received 10 pallets of sedum rolls from them. At least a quarter of it isn't even worth the soil its grown in, again too much red brick and the sedum coverage is absolutely appalling. I have 40 rolls with around 5% sedum on there and the rest is just rubbish! Once again I contacted them and sent pics but nobody replied, until today 6 days after the delivery, the first thing they said on the email was - we can't replace anything if we don't know about it straight away (Maybe that would happen if you ever answered your emails???). So after a week trying to get a reply to the pictures I sent them, I finally get a reply very similar (to the letter) to the first time I complained, pretty sure they are used to the complaints! And very sure the message is the same one they send to everyone who complains.
I think that during the week, apparently some sort of thieving elves must turn up in the night, roll out the sedum and remove all the plants (leaving all the very expensive red brick) and and then roll them back so that you cannot tell the rolls are sedum-less until you do all the hard work of getting it up on the roof and laying it out! Surely this can be the only explanation as according to Harrowden's - "As far as we are aware we have not had any other issues of bare product from this batch."
To be honest, I don't care if you have or havent had complaints from this batch, 420m2 of sedum is a very big batch, and the images I sent you clearly show the poor quality with no sedum in sight anywhere! - That is an issue! Deal with it, or at least sound like you care!?!?

Basically these people cannot be trusted, this is expensive stuff. And to anyone who has spent 3 or 4 days laying this stuff up on a roof or even on the ground, to find that turfonline are basically ripping you off every time you unroll some sedum-less carpet - be very very annoyed! Then make sure you let everyone else know by leaving your reviews online - save someone else all this hastle!

I didn’t read these reviews until after ordering so they got me worried but honestly I’m really happy with my order. Everything arrived before 11am on a Saturday so we had lots of time to lay the turf. We ordered top soil, some normal grass and some meadow mat. The meadow mat especially is lush and gorgeous with lots of worms. My only issue is that we don’t know that the turf and the soil would be delivered in different trucks so there was an hour of panic when we thought we’d have turf sitting out for hours without any top soil to prepare the lawn site.

I got the turf via B&Q. There was a slight issue when their/B&Q website was faulty and I called the number and they sorted it out without any hassle and even managed to get an earlier delivery day.
The turf arrived in excellent condition and the delivery driver dropped it right next to my back gate even though it says curb side only. Really pleased and can’t fault them at all. I would definitely use them again.

The delivery driver could not get down our road to deliver our turf so he said he would go back to the depot and get a smaller truck. We later had a phone call from Harrowden turf saying that they can only delivery the turf onto the high street which is 1/4 mile down a hill and would have meant blocking the path way and somebody's front door! They said that we would have to then use a wheel barrow to move the turf up the hill to our house. They also suggested that we could collect from their depot which is 124 miles from our home, we only have a normal family car that all the turf would not fit into and the car would get ruined in the process as well as us having to make two trips. Apart from their two ridiculous suggestions they offered no solution to our problem and just said we would have to speak to B&Q. We had paid for a labourer to come the following day to lay the turf which obviously added to our frustration.
We are being forced to ask for a refund from B&Q. The attitude of Harrowden Turf was terrible, do not buy from them.

Great customer service, friendly and professional delivery and excellent product. Its grown in really, really well, already mowed it once (about two weeks ago), now ready for the second time. To be fair we did re-soil the garden and let it settle for about two weeks before putting down the lawn, so would like to think that the hard work also is playing its part =) Really good value for the price.

Very bad quality Turf also the Customer Service. No communication at all no helping offered. !!!!!
Very disappointed from the level of the customer service. We have received two pallets yesterday afternoon. two pallet one of them fine and one of them dead dumped with very bad smell and yellow grass, very bad quality so I don’t think the heat will damage just one pallet !!!!!!! so this is not fresh as they claim !!! Big scam just to get the money, about £450. I had no grass and no money back.
Not even offer anything to help !!!

The turf I received, a day late hence the 4*, is absolutely first class. It's down and being watered night and morning so hopefully it will grow into a beautiful lawn. Looks amazing now so thank you Turfonline for delivering a quality product!

Very unhappy with the 'Floral Focus' turf we bought over a year ago, at a cost of nearly £800. No problem with delivery or customer service, that went smoothly. However, there are supposed to be 41 species of wild flower in the turf. Now that it is established it looks like we have about 6 at the most, and these are the least atractive wild flowers I have seen. It is mostly a mass of big green leaves. I wish I could post some photos here of what is shown on their website compared to what we now have. I sent a photo to Harrowden and they told me that this is what it is supposed to look like, bearing in mind that not all 41 species will grow due to differing soil conditions. I did not expect every one of the species to become established but I did expect a lot more than we got. I have suggested that they use my photograph on their website and see how their future sales go.

I purchased sedum turf from this company in August, this was to replace some turf that had to be removed due to a leak and for a new small outbuilding, a couple of months later, I noticed that large patches of grass where growing where sedum should be.
On contacting the company and providing more photos and information as above, I received a reply that basically said tough, and suggested that I weed out the invasive grass and put it down to experience, I contacted them again explaining that the option was not acceptable and if this was common practice, then green wild flower or sedum roofs would not be popular, as maintaining a roof by having to weed constantly would be like putting a lawn up in the air and suggesting that one cuts it once a week.
The company have not responded and I am now escalating this to Trading standards and any other aspect that points out the very poor customer service approach and failure to supply the product purchased.

Ordered 50 square metrea of turf through B@Q, , but it was so hot and dead, it was dreadfull, the carrier pick it up the day before and we didn't receive it till 4 in the afternoon the next day, Will NEVER order turf through these again, no replacement or compensation was offered just a straight it should have been laid the day it was received although it was laid within 18 hours of delivery,which went into the next day, DIsgusting Turf disgusting service

Had 100m2 delivered yesterday. On time delivery. Driver was incredibly enthusiastic and helpful. Put it where i asked no problem. Will use again. Thanks

After 3 month Shadesman turf looks good.
There is nothing to complain about.

Unfortunately Harrowden Turf fell well short on customer service. Ordered turf via b&q, secured a delivery date 2 months prior to delivery. They called me 3 days before delivery and said they cannot do the original date because it was a bank holiday. I had the day booked off work for delivery and this caused huge upheaval and stress. Their response was 'well it wasn't me who booked the wrong delivery date'. No apologies no compensation and nobody took responsibility. How can you not remember when the bank holidays are, this is you job. SHOCKING.

Ordered on 02.05 on turfonline.com some jubilee turf, really fast delivery, 5* delivery driver, but the turf it had a lot of dead- dried lawn, I emailed them for advice, no answer whatsoever... The lawn it's watered every day since then, it starts growing nice, but that died grass will need to be removed- scarified.
