Unsolicited email from an unrelated domain, no opt-out, then bullying over this review

I received this from a domain with no connection to SOTpay and no website:

"I'm William from SOTpay. We help teams collect arrears through secure phone payments and payment links, so more customers pay without long chase calls. If collections are slowing down, I can outline how to reduce failed follow-ups in 15 minutes, or I'll keep it to a practical workflow you can use anyway. Open to a short reply and I'll send the outline?"

That is the whole email. No company registration number, no registered office, no postal address, no unsubscribe or opt-out, and sent from a throwaway domain rather than sotpay.co.uk. UK companies are required to state their registered details on business email, and marketing email must give a valid means of opting out. This did neither. The company has since confirmed in writing that the email was theirs, sent by AI-assisted outreach, and that the sending setup is being investigated.

SOTpay flagged this review as defamatory. Trustpilot reviewed it and kept it in place.

Update: the CEO then emailed me personally, three times. The first asked me to reconsider the review and reminded me that relationships matter in small business communities. The second confirmed the outreach was theirs, then added a passive aggressive postscript about my other reviews and my character. When I asked for my details to be removed and for the source of my data, the third told me to "stop this bloody nonsense". The following day a negative review of my own company appeared on Trustpilot under a pseudonym. My data request remains unanswered.

In my opinion that amounts to bullying a reviewer for an honest personal review, and the emails read as an attempt to recast the recipient of the spam as the problem rather than the company that sent it.

Judge the company by how it markets, and by how it responds.

Paid using SOTPAY a few days ago. The money is pending on my account and the supplier is asking me to pay again as they haven’t received the money from SOTPAY. What a muddle. The email saying that the payment has failed has come from SOTPAY.
