I was delighted to be able to purchase my dream car, thanks to Startline Motor Finance. A very speedy and efficient service. I have received an email and confirmation in the post regarding direct debit details, which I can keep with my car documents. Thank you Startline.

My boyfriend took out finance on a vehicle through this company and had driven it for less than two months and under 1,000 miles when, during a routine service, a significant amount of metal filings were discovered in the engine. We were subsequently advised that the engine would need replacing.
He raised a complaint and has now been without a vehicle for around a year. Communication has been extremely frustrating, with emails taking an unreasonable amount of time to receive a response. Following the ongoing dispute, he withheld one monthly payment while waiting for the matter to be properly addressed.
Both Startline and Zuto have denied responsibility, despite an independent inspection concluding that the underlying problems were present before the vehicle was purchased.
What is particularly concerning is that they are now attempting to recover the vehicle and sell it at auction while there is still an ongoing complaint and the matter has also been referred to the Ombudsman.
After a year without a car and an incredibly stressful experience trying to get this resolved, we feel completely let down by the way this situation has been handled.
Think very carefully before using this company. Based on our experience, we would not recommend them

I did not get the car that I was offered I called your company twice to inform you that I want to cancel the financial agreement becauee I was no longer interested in buying the car but they could not give me a proper answer the second lady said I must tell toyota to contact you but toyota said match me company must contact you the mat h me company don't pick calls one their employees told me I must go and take the car that I bo longer want the other one said the matchme manager will contact me I wrote a letter to you still waiting for the response. I feel you communication channel is poor

Extremely disappointing experience dealing with a serious vehicle complaint

I took out PCP finance on a 2022 Audi Q2 and have had a very difficult experience with the vehicle and the subsequent complaint process.

The vehicle required a major suspension repair shortly after purchase. I then experienced another serious mechanical issue when the vehicle developed a loud, constant knocking noise. An independent garage found that the gearbox mounting bolts were loose, with one completely broken and detached from the gearbox.

Due to safety concerns, I stopped driving the vehicle.

Following Startline’s request, I paid for an independent inspection at my own expense. The inspection identified numerous faults and concerns with the vehicle, including suspension/ball-joint wear, a shock absorber issue, poor starting, jerking, low oil, burning oil and numerous diagnostic fault codes.

The independent garage specifically stated that several of the electrical faults appeared to be historic and did not appear to have occurred recently. It also stated that certain wear had developed over time and raised concerns regarding the vehicle’s overall history and condition. The garage could not guarantee that the vehicle would not suffer further problems or breakdown until it had been fully investigated and repaired.

I have also provided evidence of previous damage and repairs to the vehicle which occurred before I purchased it, none of which was disclosed to me at the point of sale. Had I known about this history, I would not have purchased the vehicle.

I have provided Startline with the independent report and supporting evidence and have repeatedly cooperated with their requests.

Unfortunately, despite all of this evidence, my complaint was not upheld. I feel that the evidence I provided has not been properly addressed and that the significance of the independent garage’s findings has been overlooked.

I have also experienced frustration with the communication and handling of the complaint, including having to repeatedly provide information, chase updates and deal with delays while trying to obtain the evidence needed for the investigation.

I have tried to resolve this matter reasonably, but I have now been left with a vehicle that I have serious concerns about, significant inconvenience and expense, and no satisfactory resolution.

I am now taking the matter forward to the Financial Ombudsman Service and seeking independent legal advice.

I would encourage anyone taking finance on a used vehicle to make sure they obtain as much independent information about the vehicle’s history and condition as possible before committing themselves.
