We were a family party of seven getting together for a pre Christmas get together for the evening. The menu looked very inviting and we were looking forward to a Gastro Pub experience and expected a nice meal going by the price of the meals on offer. However, the overall experience was average and the meals ‘Pub’ ordinary and therefore disappointing and seemed too expensive. Haddock and chips came out as overcooked with a measly portion of what was called minted peas, rosemary fries were simply fried chips sprinkled with salt and a very few slithers of rosemary leaf (not what we have experienced in other establishments), miso aubergine main was bland and the size of a starter and arctic roll (£10!) was a slice of arctic roll with a dollop of ice cream (really!). Even one of the meat burgers was tough. So, sadly, a disappointing and expensive experience. We will think twice about returning. We were asked to make a review by the Front House, this is it.

Menu mainly fish tried the lamb but had trouble finding it on the plate 2 pieces as big as a 50 coin would not return not good value for money very disappointing

We have a group Breakfast every Thursday and today my avocado on toast was the best so far - soft toast, generous avocado topping and a runny poached egg! Yummy.

Super roast dimmer. Fabulous service from the whole team, particularly Daniel who made our friends birthday extra special.

I visited The Watermill today with family for a meal. The food was delicious and the service from Elaine was exceptionally good. This is a lovely restaurant which also has very clean facilities. Highly recommended!

Love the Watermill but our visit on Friday left our party of 4 feeling harassed. I booked the terrace for 2pm, two of the party hadn’t been before and loved the venue and the view. However, after being asked to move inside as our table was needed ( fair enough we’d been there for hours), we seemed to be being chased/harassed to pay our bill (£265) and were treated as if we were expected to run off. A young couple sat at a table for two adjacent to us and the manager asked them to move (with the table and chairs) less than 6 feet so they were in the dining area as opposed to the drinking area - where we had been asked to go. All very odd and to be honest it’s put me off eating here again, as I don’t accept being hassled to pay my bill when I’m trying to enjoy conversation with friends. They seriously need to look at their attitude towards customers. I may go again for a drink, but they’ve lost 6 eating customers.

The Watermill has a great atmosphere and is as clean and smart as a shiny new penny, with views to die for.
The staff are excellent, attentive and friendly, so you would think it would be great place to visit for a lunchtime meal.
This along with an extensive menu and wine list would probably make you want to try it out…
But, there’s always a but…
After booking a birthday lunch for my wife we were left slightly underwhelmed by the food.

Don’t get me wrong the steak special was cooked to perfection but unfortunately didn’t match the description on the menu, unless of course you think a Portabello mushroom should only be 1 inch across and onion rings should look like burnt chicken nuggets!
Another example of the menus exaggeration was the fish pie advertised as including king prawns, mussels and scallops (note the plurals) we got 1 scallop cut in half and 3 prawns the size of a thumbnail. Oh and the added bonus of a sharp piece of mussel shell which was almost as big as the prawns…, however when we pointed out it was dealt with apologetically and deducted from the bill. We didn’t stay for a dessert as intended.
Overall great place for a drink and probably nibbles but we won’t be eating there anytime soon.

We had such an enjoyable couple of hours at The Watermill this weekend for a late afternoon dinner with family for my 40th. Elaine was our host and what an incredible host she is! Elaine made us feel so welcome, was really warm and so personable. With such unique qualities her character is most definitely one to be treasured. An extremely valuable member of your team. Thanks for having us!!

This was our second visit to the Watermill and we came with the whole family. Whole experience was excellent. Food was great and the service and attention from Elaine was fabulous. We were a large group and she made us all laugh and relaxed, making our daughters 40th birthday celebrations start with a bang! We highly recommend the Watermill.

Went for 3 course Valentine dinner in this welcoming and fabulous designed pub and restaurant.
All the food was excellent and tasty as well great choice of drinks.
The ambiente was made very special by the live pianist and singer.
Special thanks to our very attentive and polite waitress Elaine to make this an evening to remember.
