Try to fine me £100 for parking at a petrol station for 5 hours, when I had gone in once in the morning and once in the afternoon, said they couldn't find the other photos of me going in and out, just the one going in in the morning and the one going out in the afternoon. Proved it was lies by sending my ring doorbell footage. Absolute scam artists.

These filthy parasites have no legal basis whatsoever for their demands.
They have no contract with you, nor do their so called debt collectors.
I have repeatedly told them to take me to court but they don't, their only method of obtaining funds is bullying and harassment.
Hold your own against them, they have no jurisdiction over you whatsoever.
Simply advise that if the fuel vendor wishes to be paid for the fuel they forgot to charge for, they should contact you directly.

Received a fine demand through the post…

Received a fine demand through the post from this charming organisation. Only three days before a payment deadline. Otherwise I pay more. I paid the fine through the post and had it recorded /next day, the £88+fine was allegedly for failure to pay a garage, i regularly use, £45+ for fuel, but my bank statement records seem to tell a different story, it appears a payment to the garage went through, but for £4+ only, this looks like an error made during the payment, by the garage? This organisation is meant to protect from theft, but I feel like a victim..

Surprises me that companies like ASDA would use rogue traders like this. I’m pretty sure tapped my card to pay for fuel, never bothered to check my statement. Letter received for drive off. The letter wasn’t from a professional outfit either. No more petrol from ASDA.

Avoid if you value your sanity ⭐

Went into the petrol station (Esso/Asda in Denham) to pay for my fuel, bought nothing else, and the cashier (Ganesh) charged me the wrong amount. Somehow this became a “drive off” and a VARS claim.

I disputed it immediately, provided bank evidence, and twice asked VARS to put the case on hold while they investigated. I got automated “ticket created” responses while the fee merrily increased anyway.

Visited the petrol station as was told they could do nothing...

Eventually I paid £157.21 because I was fed up with the threat of further escalation or worse, a CCJ.

And, in a plot twist absolutely nobody could have predicted, the moment I paid, within 24 hours an actual human finally responded. 😂

Thanks Jess Hardy 🖕🏽

Awful system, painfully slow communication and an incredibly stressful way to deal with what began as a simple cashier/payment error.

I appealed an overstay parking fine…

I appealed an overstay parking fine issued by VARS Technology Ltd via POPLA in Sep of last year and it was ruled in my favour because I was charging my car up not actually parking. Despite this on 14 Aug 2026, precisely one year less a day after the alleged incident I get a letter from a debt collector to say I had to pay an increased fine. Note they are no longer regulated by the FCA, these people are cowboys and are bullying people into paying fines they do not owe. The lack of a phone number despite employing 32 people says it all - it's one way communication.

Absolute Shysters

Absolute Shysters. Received a drive off notice when I did no such thing. Must have been an issue with the garage because i remember going into pay. Bought a drink as well. Next day when I check my bank I noticed I had been undercharged. Garage was 150 miles from where i live so just though nothing else of it, then receive a notice. You try and email them to question it and then you hear nothing back. Absolute joke of a company. Ending up paying it as I don't need the hassle of arguing it. Not sure how these people sleep at night. Bunch of wasters.

Blacklisted without receiving a single…

Blacklisted without receiving a single letter – fortunately the CCTV still existed!!

I only discovered by chance that my vehicle had been placed on the VARS system as a “drive off” and blacklisted when I visited a petrol station and staff alerted me.

The record related to an alleged unpaid amount of £8.23. More concerningly, the system showed the case had already reached “second letter sent” status, with administration fees added bumping it up nearly £80.

I had never received a first letter, second letter, email or any other communication from VARS about this matter. Had I not discovered the blacklist by chance, I would have had no idea that this was being recorded against my vehicle or that additional charges were apparently being added.

The irony the whole system is that I had been back to the very same petrol station numerous times and purchased petrol too.

Fortunately, on discovery I went directly to the petrol station where the alleged incident had occurred as it was my local that I regularly use. The site manager was extremely helpful and was able to locate the transaction and CCTV footage so that we could work through what had actually happened.
Importantly, I was told that I was lucky because the station only retains its CCTV footage for 28 days. We had also paid by card, which meant there was a transaction trail that could be traced and followed up. Between the payment records and the available footage, the circumstances could be established and the matter was resolved. The blacklist was removed.

That leaves me with a serious concern about the VARS tech process.

If my case was already showing “second letter sent” despite my never receiving either letter, how was I reasonably supposed to know there was an issue that needed addressing?

More importantly, what would have happened if I had discovered the blacklist after the CCTV had been deleted, or if I had paid in cash and had no easily traceable payment record?

The original issue in my case was capable of being clarified once somebody actually looked at the evidence. My concern is that the lack of communication could easily have deprived me of the opportunity to obtain that evidence while it still existed.

I would encourage anyone who unexpectedly discovers their vehicle has been flagged by VARS not to assume that the information displayed is necessarily the full picture. Obtain the incident reference, ask for the underlying evidence, check your payment records and, where possible, contact the originating petrol station promptly before CCTV or other evidence is routinely deleted.

I believe there needs to be much greater transparency around how motorists are notified, how letters recorded as “sent” are evidenced, how administration fees are added, and what safeguards are in place before a vehicle is placed on a shared blacklist?

Thankfully, in my case, the petrol station took the time to investigate and the matter was resolved. But I shouldn't have had to discover it by chance. The 1 star given was solely to be able to log my feedback! VARS Tech feel free to justify or respond!!

Avoid this company at all costs

Avoid this company at all costs. My experience with VARS Technology has been nothing short of appalling. They issued a claim against me for “non‑payment” of fuel, yet I have a digital record proving I paid in full on the exact date and time in question.

When I contacted them, they admitted their original information was incorrect, but still insisted I must pay. Even after acknowledging their own error, they continued to pursue the claim without providing any proper evidence.

Any business considering using this third‑party service should seriously rethink their decision. Their behaviour is misleading, aggressive, and feels like an attempt at extortion rather than legitimate debt recovery.

If you receive a demand from them, do not accept their claims at face value. Ask for verified evidence, not vague statements or contradictory stories.

I will be reporting this matter to Trading Standards and the Financial Ombudsman Service

Update: As of today, 6/10/2026, I have been in touch with the ICO, FSA, FOS, Citizen Advice and also my local MP to get this matter resolved. VARS escalated this to DCBL for collection of the alleged debt based on the wrong evidence. They have also said that they are now treating this as a fuel theft, even though I have proof that I paid for this fuel. This is a prime example of their intimidation tactics to try to get me to pay for something I have already paid for.

Fraudlent company that tried to charge…

Fraudlent company that tried to charge me an “admin fee” as i’d supposedly driven off without paying for petrol.

What actually happened (after contacting MOTO) was that i’d attempted to pay via card and it hadn’t gone through.

Even after this, they still tried to claim I owed them an admin fee, which was bollocks.

Eventually it was waivered and i just paid for the petrol (but had to get confirmation of this through MOTO).

VARS Technology is so so bad …

Here’s a corrected version of your message:

VARS Technology is the worst. My son accidentally put in £15.67 of petrol first. Then my daughter told him to fill the tank, so he put in another £36 of fuel. My daughter paid the £36, but the cashier never asked for the £15.67 from the first transaction. My daughter didn’t realise there was an unpaid amount because the cashier accepted the payment and let them leave.

Later, VARS Technology sent us a letter demanding payment of £57.60. When my daughter tried to pay, they had increased the amount to £87.50. This is very unfair. If the cashier had asked for the outstanding £15.67 at the time, this situation could have been avoided. I believe VARS Technology has handled this very poorly.

I post this as a warning to others

I post this as a warning to others, a Ukrainian national I sponsor inadvertently drove off the forecourt without paying for about £20 of fuel leaving myself to collect the details of this event from my local service station.
The notification letter arrived requesting payment of fuel with a £35 charge payably within 14 days after which the total demand would then increase to £94. I therefore paid the first amount in order to prevent any further escalation of funds demanded over time.
This letter arrived by second class mail in 7 days leaving only 7 days to pay before the deadline expired thus escalating his case to the next level. This letter is therefore classed as a time sensitive legal document and sending said document by economy second class post clearly constitutes bad practice which I sorely complained about in my email together with demanding a VAT receipt only to acknowledge the payment and attach the receipt.
On another note and I name BPH council for this one. A neighbour's son received a £200 demand letter from them after dropping a cigarette butt, this demand letter by second class mail requested payment in 7 days followed by court action in default, the letter arrived 12 days later, 5 days after the time limit expired, their letter is classed as a time sensitive legal document immediately escalating to legal procedings. This case counts as gross bad practice setting up the lad to fail in the worst possible way.
BPH council, hang your heads in shame!.

I woke this morning 31st July and…

I woke this morning 31st July and received in the morning post two non payment notifications for fuel drawn at a forecourt, picture of my vehicle leaving provided. One notification was for £102 and the second detailed £137 as I had not paid the first one. The incident in question happened on May 28th where I thought the wife had paid in the fuel station and she thought I'd paid at pump..I'm not disputing this happened I owed the garage £67 . There is no telephone number to contact VARS so I immediately tried to pay my intention to resolve the £102 as I had only found out today!! . Upon trying to pay I discovered I was now in the hands of a collection agency who demanded £197 after waiting on hold for 30 minutes. I have had to pay this as it would have continued to rise despite my protestations they didn't give a toss. VARSPAN must be directed by Trading Standards to send initial notices on recorded delivery and or something that requires signature upon delivery to ensure the person accused has been made aware, otherwise they could make this up as they go along. Thanks to a delayed communication I'm out of pocket an additional £100. If these letters had not arrived on my door step the collection agency would have kept adding to the bill I have had no communication from them. I understand VARS are not responsible for a crap postal service well then why should I be made responsible for it...I've emailed them four times, sent images of the two letters that arrived this morning that through no fault of my own cost me an additional £100....guess what ...total silence...Why are these companies allowed to do this and trade in this manner, ESSO forecourts need to investigate how this company is operating....last time I fill up at an ESSO station..be careful I think they also cover ASDA

What a scam these people are

What a scam these people are. I am another who has fallen foul on a dubious process. For 25 years I have bought petrol at Moor Road station in Chorley. Then apparently I have told the cashier the wrong pump and paid for someone else’s fuel.
I get a ‘drive off’ notice for the difference plus £35 admin fee. Leanne the petrol station manager wasn’t interested. What are Asda doing about this? Check out the reviews, check their financial position on Company’s House and also see that they are no longer part of the FCA!! Companies spend millions getting new customers. Asda are loosing them left right and centre with this lot of jokers. Wonder what happens if you pay too much for someone else’s pump. Do you get the money back? I doubt it. How am I supposed to know if another pump is more or less than mine? It’s crazy.
