Impressed!

Honestly I’m used to USA prices/experiences and 1Rebel was very refreshing. It’s not too corporate like Barry’s, but also not suffocating like a small studio. It’s a fun experience and the instructors don’t call you out which I appreciate. Facilities are clean and nice!

I love 1Rebel!

I love 1Rebel, it's my favourite boutique gym in London. Reshape is my favourite concept, classes are vibrant and full of energy.

Terrible experience all round

Terrible experience all round

I used to like the classes but front office is staff has always been really unhelpful through their branches and they have an extremely strict policies and no regard whatsoever for customer service.

Life sometimes happens but apparently not for 1Rebel. I sustained a serious hiking incident over Christmas and couldn't walk for a while let alone go to the gym so I missed out on lots of pre-purchased passes as all naturally expire.

I had passes at Psycle who kindly were able to offer an extension but 1Rebel has intense policies and requests doctors proof - which I would understand for a membership but not for a few weeks postponment of some gym passes you've already paid for. At the very least it's just keeping a customer happy who you would hope would be purchasing passes again in the future.

Classes are ok but nothing special and really depends on the instructor. I've done a wide variety of Reformer classes particularly at their Euston brnach and some of the earlier ones have been good (that instructor is no longer on their list for some reason) but the others are very basic or focus on just one group of muscles or too much on the props. For the fee I'd expect something better and I've done classes for even £20 at private studios which have been much better.

Similar issues at the Chelea branch where I wasn't let use some passes for a guest (as I didn't have time to do all 4 classes by myself). They said that particualr pass was for my sole use only although other passes are not normally - so you have to be aware of very strict T&Cs between branches.

Similar experience with others where at the Holborn branch I arrived 5 minutes earlier for a class (which I have done before at other gyms) but they told me I couldn't get in as I needed to due their famous inductions. Their inductions are extremely basic by the way for 20 seconds and if you've been to any gym before I can assure you, you can handle it.

It is a shame as I have been using them for a number of years but a gym experience needs to be relaxing and fun whereas 1Rebel policies and rudeness of front office staff has really made it a hugely negative experience. Lots of my friends have had similar experiences (not be able to attend a class due to illness - and you actually get charged if you don't go). They state it's because they don't want empty spaces but I don't understand why policies need to be so strict when the class has already been paid for.

I know they are trying to be cool or whatever (not sure why being so strict helps them) but I would highly recommend staying back from this gym. There are better and cheaper gyms on the market!

First and foremost, we’re really sorry to hear about your hiking injury and hope you’re now on the mend. We completely understand how disappointing it must have been to miss out on sessions you’d already paid for, especially in circumstances that were out of your control. While we do have set policies around pass expiry, extensions and medical exceptions, it’s clear from your feedback that this didn’t feel supportive or proportionate in your situation, and that’s something we take seriously.

We’re also disappointed to hear your experiences with our front-of-house teams felt unhelpful or inflexible. That’s not the standard we aim for, and we’ll be sharing this feedback with the relevant club managers to ensure it’s addressed. Our induction and late-entry policies are in place for safety and to minimise disruption, but we recognise that how these policies are communicated is just as important as the policies themselves.

On the class experience itself, we appreciate your honest view. Our training teams work hard to maintain consistency across instructors and concepts, but we know that preferences vary and that not every session will land the same way for everyone. Your comments around Reformer programming and instructor changes have been noted and will be passed on internally.

We’re genuinely sorry that this has overshadowed what was once a positive relationship with 1Rebel. While we stand by having clear policies to ensure fairness and safety for all customers, your feedback highlights where our approach can feel too rigid, and that’s something we continue to review.

WORST STUDIO

WORST STUDIO.

Having attended dozens of spin classes at multiple reputable studios, I cannot believe the treatment I received at the Victoria 1rebel studio.

Having arrived 5 minutes in advance of my spin classes I was told I cannot attend because there is a mandatory induction, which means I need to arrive 10 mins in advance. Why? I know how to setup a bike and put my shoes on, what makes 1rebel supposedly so special that I need a 10 min induction? The fact that I was told oh just take bike 12 when I booked bike 4 can’t mean the induction is all that important for someone that has been to multiple spin classes before. I was then told I cannot even have the credit refunded and have to attend a session later that day - I’m sorry but I spent almost an hour to get there, and do not have time to sit around waiting for the next class.

How incredibly disappointing. Do better.

Addition to my original review - having emailed the Victoria branch and being told it would be passed onto the manager, who will respond within 3 days, I have heard nothing after a week, even after chasing. This again shows how little care is given to customer service. 1rebel if you truly care about your customer experience sorry this out.

For first-time 1Rebel Ride guests, we do ask everyone to arrive early to start the 5 minute induction on time and ready to go. This isn’t about experience level, but a short safety and setup briefing specific to our bikes and studio, so classes can start on time without disruption. I completely understand why arriving five minutes early felt reasonable though, especially after travelling in.

I’m also sorry if this was communicated in a way that felt inflexible or dismissive, that’s not the experience we want anyone to have. While our policy is to keep the session as a usable credit rather than forfeiting it, I appreciate that staying for a later class wasn’t realistic for you on the day.

If you’re open to it, please email us with your booking details and we’ll look at re-crediting or refunding the session and help you rebook at a time that works better. We appreciate you raising this and are sorry we missed the mark here.

The class was okay but just didn't really challenging and didn't find the choreography of the class very engaging compared to others studios.

1Rebel is amazing. Brilliant, clean changing rooms and facilities. Classes were great… a brilliant workout. Lots of products to use and a fridge full of cold refreshing towels. Excited to go again

Great classes

Great classes, especially the reformer Pilates with Martha! Only thing I don't like is that difficulty levels quite a lot and its hard to tell before you book

They used to be really good

They used to be really good, and you could carry over any unused classes for a week. However, after an app update, this was no longer an option, and at the same time the cost of the class packages increased.

The reception staff at the Oxford Circus location were consistently rude. They would often stand around chatting instead of checking people into class, yet if you were in a rush to get changed before the class started, they would literally shout after you that you needed to check in first. On several occasions when I pre-ordered a shake, it was never ready after class and was only started once I asked to collect it.

It is also almost impossible to cancel or freeze your package, despite being on a rolling monthly membership. In November, after I fell pregnant, I paused my membership via the app and received confirmation that my account had been frozen. I didn’t take a screenshot, as I didn’t expect there to be an issue. However, in December £90 was still taken from my account. There was no email confirmation of the pause, so I had no evidence.

In December I cancelled my membership altogether, yet in January I was charged another £90. This time I had taken a screenshot, which I sent to them. I was told this was due to a technical error on the app and that I would be refunded. I am currently waiting to receive this.

A few things I want to address clearly:

Carry-over sessions and pricing
Our membership and terms were updated late in 2024, but I completely understand how this change may have felt sudden. Your feedback is noted and will be passed directly to the team. Unfortunately due to our new booking system, we're now unable to carry over sessions between billing dates.

Front of House experience
You should always feel welcomed and taken care of when you walk into any 1Rebel club. The behaviour you’ve described at Oxford Circus isn’t reflective of the service we aim to deliver, and we’ll be following this up internally with the General Manager and Front Of House team. Thank you for calling it out.

Shake pre-orders
Your shake should always be ready when you step out of class, that’s the whole point of pre-ordering. We’ll feed this back to ensure consistency with the bar team.

Freeze / cancellation issues
This is where I’m especially sorry. You absolutely shouldn’t have been charged after attempting to freeze or cancel your membership. It sounds like a technical error on our side.

To make sure everything is fully resolved, I’ve flagged your account with our Ops team so they can review it end-to-end and confirm once all outstanding actions (including any refunds) are complete.

If you ever choose to return to 1Rebel in the future, we’d love to welcome you back with a far smoother and more positive experience.

Great amenities and class variety!

The staff was very lovely and helpful as a first time guest (and traveler to London). I signed up for the first time 3 sessions promo while on holiday. There is a lot of amenities and class variety that makes this gym superior to others (water bottles, tolieters, free towels, hair tools, etc). The only thing I found missing was dry shampoo. Would definitely recommend this gym and go back next time I'm in London.

I have reached out to their consumer…

I have reached out to their consumer service roughly 10 times over the past 4 months and have not heard anything back from them.

Just unacceptable with a company as big as them and who wants to look after their customer base from a subscription basis

1Rebel Bayswater- Incredibly Rude Instructor & Staff

I book a class at 6:30 pm through class pass and walk in to 1Rebel bayswater at 6:29 pm. I’m unaware of their rule that you can’t go into a class even if 30 seconds after it starts as I haven’t been there many times and was late to my first class with them and got in with no problem. I walk in, clearly unchanged and still need to get ready, and they sign me in. I start getting ready in the changing room and they announce on the microphone that there are 30 seconds to go into the room otherwise you wouldn’t be able to attend the class. I thought this definitely didn’t apply to me as they literally let me into the studio and was very obvious that I wasn’t changed and yet they didn’t say anything whatsoever about potentially not having enough time to get in and I could be denied entry. They closed the door and I open it and walk into the class with the clock literally still at 6:30, but the door had closed. The instructor stops the class and tells me to get out because the door is closed and I can’t participate, instead of just letting me start the workout without disrupting the class. I try to explain that 1. It’s still 6:30 2. I had no idea of this rule and asked if I could just stay. He tells me I need to get out and directs me out of the class (gently pushing me). I go to the reception and ask them why they would sign me in and wouldn’t make me aware of this rule when I was clearly never going to make it in time. All they could do was give me an attitude and say that they have strict rules and they can’t possibly guess how long it would take me to get dressed. Incredibly rude, very poor service, didn’t even try to offer me any solution, and severely lacked any emotional intelligence whatsoever. For sure never going back there again as it genuinely felt like I was speaking to robots who didn’t give a shit whether I got in or was upset or not.

Thank you for taking the time to share this, we’re really sorry your experience at Bayswater felt this way. No one should leave feeling dismissed or unheard, and we completely appreciate how frustrating the situation must have been.

To give a little clarity, our door-close policy is in place purely for safety. Once the class starts, the warm-up has finished, the lights drop and the studio becomes a high-intensity space. Letting someone enter late is unsafe for the customer and disrupts the experience for everyone already in the room. That said, we absolutely should have communicated this more clearly to you at check-in – especially as you were signing in so close to the start time. You deserved clearer guidance in that moment.

We’re also very sorry if the interaction with the team didn’t feel supportive. That’s not the standard we set, and we’ll be feeding this back internally so we can make sure situations like this are handled with far more empathy moving forward.

In terms of your credit, as this was booked through ClassPass you can request the session back directly through them and they’ll take care of it.

We genuinely appreciate the feedback, it helps us improve how we guide new customers and communicate studio rules in a much better way. Not the gym for you if you need some flexibility…

I generally really like 1Rebel and am a long-time member, but their new charging system for cancellations is really unfair/excessive. You used to lose a credit if you didn't make a class, which is fair enough, but now for example, if you wake up really ill and have a class booked that evening (could be literally 11 hours later) the only way not to be charged is to STILL GO - which isn't good for you or anyone else at the class! I have an auto-immune condition which means I'm very susceptible to illness, and sadly this means I'm having to consider cancelling my membership because of this new system. If you are someone who needs a bit more flexibility (or if you have kids and so a lot of last minute nursery and school illnesses!) then this isn't the gym for you.

Thank you for taking the time to share this, and for being such a long-standing Rebel. We’re genuinely sorry to hear this has caused stress for you, especially with the added challenge of managing an autoimmune condition. That’s absolutely not the experience we want for any of our members.

To give a little clarity, our late cancellation fee exists to make sure spaces don’t go unused. Many of our classes run with long waitlists, and the fee helps keep things fair for everyone trying to book in. That said, we know life, and health, can be unpredictable, and we never want anyone to feel they have to train when they’re unwell.

If you ever find yourself in a situation where you’re too ill to attend, please reach out to the team directly. We’ll always do our best to support you on. Your wellbeing comes first, always.
