My experience with Clever Accounts was poor.

The main issue was payroll and salary. I repeatedly explained, by email and on calls, that I needed proper payroll in place and formal salary evidence, including payslips, for mortgage, credit reference and rental purposes. I made it clear this was urgent and, at points, felt like I was practically begging for movement on it.

The repeated response was effectively to pay myself £1,047.50 and take the rest in dividends. That missed the point entirely. I was not asking for a generic tax-efficient split. I was asking for proper salary and payroll records because I needed evidence of income for real-world financial checks.

Despite raising this multiple times, there was still no meaningful progress on the one issue that mattered most. That created practical problems for me with rent and mortgage matters, and it also prevented me from bringing an employee on board when I needed to.

A lot of the contact ended up being repeated chasing on the same unresolved issue rather than actual progress. I was able to sort a number of other things out myself and, on calls, it was acknowledged that I was already ahead of matters. That is why I do not accept that the volume of calls reflected strong service.

When I gave notice, I gave additional time, 3 months notice, to help support a proper handover to the new accountants. My initial experience was that Clever Accounts ended the engagement almost immediately, literally the next day, which in my view was inconsistent with the 1 month notice position they had set out in their own T&Cs and contract. That added unnecessary friction at the point of transition.

Overall, based on my own experience, I found the service slow, reactive and not fit for what I needed at a key stage of growing the business. I would not use Clever Accounts ever again.

We have been using Clever Accounts for our accounting and payroll for several years now. They’ve always been incredibly supportive, offering great advice, expert knowledge, and a very personal service throughout.

Their systems are straightforward and easy to use, communication is always prompt, and they are very easy to get hold of whenever needed. In particular, Annie, who manages our payroll, has been absolutely amazing — professional, helpful, and always efficient. We’ve been extremely happy with the service they provide.

Closed down business almost 1 year ago and still waiting for Clever Accounts to finalise paperwork.

For the past 11 months, we have been constantly chasing for final accounts, final paperwork, etc. There are always long delays with us doing all the pushing/follow up.

Emails constantly being sent to the wrong address, almost impossible to get hold of the person who manages our account, even after leaving numerous messages. Over a week ago, he told us he was sending us a document to sign. He said it went by email - still don't have it. To the best of my knowledge, emails are almost instantaneous. They don't take over a week.

Have phoned twice today to chase up and left a lengthy message with someone at Clever Accounts. No response.

My feeling is that this company takes their time so that the can continue to deduct the monthly fees, which we are now having to pay personally, because we closed the business a year ago.

I searched high and low for an accountant and I feel I definitely have found the best one with Clever Accounts who I joined in December 2025. Since that time, they have provided me with as much support that I have needed in setting up my own Ltd. They have provided me with an excellent accountant named Ajib. They encourage me to make regular appointments for the first view months to make sure I am onboarded properly and that I have all of the necessary information needed. Therefore, I feel, they have gone over and above to provide me with their support. They will also check any contracts to make sure they meet Ltd requirements. They came in at very competitive price compared to similar accountant companies. There have been no extra or hidden costs. They appear to have a very streamlined and efficient approach which seems to support the company to be fully available in offering all of the support you need from an accountant.
