The system ignores spent convictions
I suspect the DBS check gives employers and voluntary organizations a false sense of security. There is no record of spent convictions.
If I was designing the system my DBS record would show my 6 month driving ban (completed 1-Nov-2024) and that I was "bound over to keep the peace" for one year in April 2019 after I assaulted my wife in December 2018.

Depending on the level of check you have applied for, spent convictions may not be displayed on your DBS certificate.
If you have applied for a basic DBS Check, this will only check for unspent convictions. In order to receive a certificate that checks for both spent and unspent convictions, you will have to apply for either the standard or enhanced DBS Check.

I was given the impression that this was a service for professionals and I ended up with a basic not an enhanced disclosure. I will ask the company to address this and then write an updated review once they have responded.

We offer support for both Basic and Enhanced checks, and the level selected during the application process determines which one is processed.
Enhanced checks can only be requested through an employer or organisation authorised to conduct them, whereas Basic checks can be requested by individuals.
This sometimes leads to misunderstandings, so we’re always happy to clarify the differences before or after an application is submitted.
