Extern.com Reviews

Extern gave me a genuinely valuable learning experience. Instead of just watching videos or completing theoretical assignments, I got to work on projects that reflected real venture capital work and decision-making.

The experience helped me improve my research, analytical thinking, and understanding of the VC space in a way that felt practical and engaging. I also liked how clear the structure was and how easy it was to stay involved throughout the program.

I’d recommend it to anyone looking to gain hands-on experience and explore careers in venture capital or startups.

The projects were more interesting and challenging than I expected, which I appreciated. The externship covered everything from Python and sentiment analysis to building a full pitch deck, so by the end I had something real to show.
The mentor meetings with working professionals were genuinely the highlight for me. It made the experience feel like actual industry work rather than just another course.

I liked the high-quality content of the externship I did in analyzing a semiconductor company, and it helped me develop new skills for my future career as a data analyst. I learned a lot!!

I had the pleasure of being able to add something to my portfolio while working with great program leaders! I especially liked the networking aspect of the program!

My experience was amazing i genuinely loved the way it was designed and the content was easy to follow. Even for a minute i didn’t feel that i couldn’t do this. Overall it was a great learning experience

Having finished my externship experience in Tiktok social media marketing and brand strategy, it has deepened my understanding in brand positioning based on brand voice, visual and style of reaching the targeted audience/customers on social media platforms such as Tiktok and Instagram, by use of metrics to determine views, shares, engagement and impressions to enable effective social media marketing and content creation that align with intention not exaggeration.
Moreso, Canva data visualization and AI Design externship has truly contributed in my field of climate literacy. I can now have access to Canvas AI design and produce educative visuals that brings strategic climate action storytelling that support localized biodiversity initiatives.

Great hands-on learning experience with Extern. The externship provided practical exposure to equity research, financial modeling, and valuation analysis using real-world business cases. I significantly improved my Excel, forecasting, and analytical skills while learning how to build financial models and analyze company financial statements professionally.

What stood out most was the structured mentorship, practical assignments, and the opportunity to apply finance concepts in a real-world setting rather than only learning theory. Highly valuable experience for students and early-career professionals interested in finance and investment analysis.

I had a really positive experience with the Extern + Outamation externship. The program was well-structured, beginner-friendly, and focused heavily on hands-on learning rather than just theory.

Throughout the externship, I worked on real AI-powered document intelligence projects using technologies like RAG, OCR, vector databases, semantic retrieval, and chatbot systems. I especially liked the step-by-step guidance, walkthrough videos, and final project presentation process, which helped me improve both my technical and communication skills.

The experience gave me more confidence in building and explaining real-world AI applications, and I genuinely learned a lot throughout the program.

Surely this site is a joke? I was interested in looking at opportunities to gain in experience in something connected to biotech, software, or science in general. I signed up for the "trial" and the only 2 projects that sounded relevant to my field appeared as if they were set up for school children. The projects were literally "Wow! In this super exciting project you are gonna feed a spreadsheet to ChatGPT and ask it to generate a report for you. How cool is that?" We are so doomed as a society. Actual internships have historically been about learning to do things yourself, not delegate tasks to a mindless LLM, uncritically copying and pasting its output, and calling it a day. Why would anybody pay for this? At that point you could just do the entire process on your own without needing somebody else to "supervise" you.

Extern helps both students and early career professionals get real world exposure to different industries. So it is great to explore what working within a sector looks like and for building experience

Helped improve my resume and learn important skills.

I had an amazing experience with Extern through the HP Tech Ventures Externship. I learned a lot about how venture capital firms operate, how they assess startups, and how they analyze a company’s growth potential and market opportunities. Having to do research and dive deeper into using AI was also a huge part of the experience. Before this externship, I had no idea about tools like Claude and Perplexity, but without a doubt, they are now some of my favorite AI platforms. Overall, it was a highly engaging experience, and the program manager was always available with reminders and ready to help.

They have programs that teach you from start to finish and are easy to follow while remaining challenging, and they have introduced me to amazing tools that I can now use in my personal and professional life. They have an excellent combination of theory and hands on work that really made what I learned stick.

The detail. Everything was thoroughly explained and executed

Very supportive from online mentoring, slack channels, and emails, the Extern program team was available to assist.

My experience was great because I got to learn more about my field. I learned social media strategy and brand consistency. To be honest I learned more about branding and strategy than some classes. To learn this much information and gain real experience is a true goldmine!

I recently completed an externship with Pfizer and was thoroughly impressed by the quality of the program. The most standout aspect was how current the material was; it’s clear they prioritize staying at the forefront of the industry. It made the learning experience feel incredibly practical and valuable.

Extern is a great place for students to get real world experience! Christie was my program manager for 2 externships and she was amazing!! Any time I reached out with a question, she got back to me quickly with detailed answers! Couldn’t ask for anything better!

I want to share my experience with the externship program. What stood out to me the most was the level of exposure and learning opportunities I gained throughout the journey. The company and manager meetings encouraged me to speak up, share my ideas, and reflect on my work in a more professional way. The materials and resources provided also helped me develop a deeper understanding of the industry and workplace expectations.

This externship was not only about theory, but also about understanding deeper concepts and building professional values and a strong code of conduct. During manager and company meetings, I learned the importance of professionalism, teamwork, communication, and sharing insights to ensure everyone stays aligned and works toward a common goal. That is what makes a strong and effective team.
