I have dealt with Josh Edwards for a few years now and have had no problem at all. Josh made the whole process very simple and understandable, takes the time to explain everything and also keeps you up to date throughout the process.

Used these for a couple of years now. The guy I used to deal with was very responsive. However now dealing with a guy called Josh who can’t seem to be bothered to reply to emails. Service has definitely gone down hill

Wow, couldn't beleive how helpful the guys at Gorilla are. I just cannot recommend this service to anyone.

Paper claims (self assessment claims) you can do yourself by sending a letter and calculation to HMRC and general claims for the tax year can be submitted online and you’ll have your money within a few weeks - I did 3yrs online myself and it couldn’t of been any easier and I then did my self assessment tax return with Gorilla.

When I first contacted Gorilla Tax Rebates they were friendly, communicative and they said that my Pension Tax Relief claim would be settled within a month.

October 29th the claim was received by HMRC and the advisor (who I won’t name) said that it should all be done before I travelled on December 3rd. I was very pleased knowing that I wouldn’t have to do anything and this would be settled in around 30days and everything seemed good at the start.

I contacted them again when I returned to the from my travels and noticed that the claim was still ongoing this was around the start of January. Gorilla said that HMRC would review/aim to settle the claim by the 8th of August and that’s the date they had been given. Obviously I was not best pleased with this as that would be 10 months to receive back anything on my claim. Gorilla said there was nothing they could do as they are bound to HMRCs timeframes despite colleagues of mine receiving their money already at this time.

I chased HMRC myself throughout January and again in February and finally I got HMRC to escalate this claim internally. A few days followed and I got a letter saying that the funds had been sent to my tax agent on the 26th of February (Thursday 26/03/26).

I called Gorilla on March 4th (Wednesday 04/03/2026) and my usual contact was away so I spoke to someone new. I let them know my funds were sent on the 26th and they said that they haven’t received the funds and went on to explain cheques take longer to come and clear etc - I stopped the agent and explained my funds were transferred on the 26th so they were 100% in their account and funnily enough it was! I got no confirmation that Gorilla had received my money, they have just been sat on it and gone mute whilst I’ve done all the leg work to get the claim reviewed and settled.

I used Gorilla Tax Rebates for ease, they are an expensive way to do this but I didn’t mind paying their fee (29% commission + VAT) to get my money ASAP and the month window to receive these funds sounded great. In reality I waited almost 6 months, had to chase the claim the whole way through, and had no updates/contact while all Gorilla did was send a letter to HMRC, go quiet and take £648.47 off me for the pleasure.

My claim came to just over £1,800.00 and Gorilla took almost £650 off me by the time their 29% and VAT came off, despite doing almost nothing themselves.

Stay clear, this is easy enough to do yourself and is not worth the time, hassle and cost that comes with using this company.

I was promised two separate payments. I received the first one and now 8 months later I have not received the second. I have requested updates numerous times from Nick Parish and the info email address and no one is replying. It has been very disappointing the lack of responses and questionable about where my second payment has gone.

I was a bit dubious at first after seeing an advert on instagram but Nick was assigned to my case and made the process stress free, took care of everything, a pleasant individual to deal with.
I didn’t realise I had overpaid tax! Will be using them every year and I recommend that everyone does!
