Evening birthday dinner was very…
Evening birthday dinner was very disappointing. Table greasy on arrival. Steak was tasty but chips from chippy not great. The small fly in my sons salad was the icing on the cake. Was not value for money or enjoyable. Very disappointing!
We would not recommend this place
We recently visited Greendale at 10 AM, excited to enjoy breakfast after some shopping. Unfortunately, getting a table turned into quite a hassle. Despite several empty tables, we were informed that they were all reserved. It’s hard to believe that a café like the Farm Shop Café would require reservations! It was only after expressing our frustration to the manager that a table for two was finally found.
Unfortunately, the disappointment didn’t stop there. The food quality was poor and served cold. The presentation was unappetizing, and we regretted ordering the Barn Breakfast. What we received was half a plate of cold canned beans, one egg, and a tiny sausage.
Additionally, when we went to pay, the young man at the cash register couldn’t provide us with the correct change. He charged us £0.65 and only returned £0.22 from our £1.
Overall, we felt it was a waste of time and money. We would not recommend this place to others looking for a pleasant breakfast/lunch experience. They must improve its reservation management, food quality, and staff training.
I placed an order for Chelsea buns
I placed an order for Chelsea buns, and fruit scones, I thought that they would be fairly fresh, upon arrival I found that they had been frozen, and then defrosted before delivery to me I am very disappointed
Waited an hour for food which was cold!
Couldn’t move our booking an hour earlier as app said full, but arrived early and lots of tables empty! Arrived 7pm and took an hour for our food to be served, not great when you have hungry kids! Chips and gammon were hard and cold, battered fish was ok, but let down by the dish being cold, 5 adults, 2 kids meal and drinks came to nearly £120, I expected much better!
Shocking and embarrassing cafe
This review is purely for the farmshop cafe, ‘Greedale Kitchen’. We visited on Sunday 4th August, table at 10.30 for breakfast. Plenty of empty tables around us, not peak time, and yet the service was absolutely abysmal.
There wasn’t a single member of staff who displayed any basic customer service skills or table service skills, and it was genuinely astonishing and borderline embarrassing to have brought my family there for what I had marked as a celebration when making the booking. Genuinely, the woman who took our order didn’t even look up from her iPad for a second, she muttered ‘next’ and ‘brown or white’ for each of us, and that was is. No thank you, no consideration for whether we needed anything on the table to actually eat with! We felt SO uncomfortable, it was like she’d never taken an order in her life!!??
Just to make matters worse, once the food had finally made it to the table, the plates were shoved down almost as badly as the food had been shoved on to the plates. Beans dripping off the side onto the table, the servers dirty tea towel was dipped into my beans and the bacon was beyond measly. My sister’s waffle looked like it had been taken out of a packet with a limp bit of bacon sat on top. How can you get the most basic of breakfasts so wrong!? We were given no cutlery, had no sauces, our empty cups were pushed to the side to make space rather than be taken away. As I was complaining to the host about not having anything to eat our breakfast with, he was actively watching my husband take any spare cutlery off of empty tables, whilst saying sorry and asking what he could do!? Maybe stop my husband doing your job and actually rectify the situation yourself!?
What this shows, is that Greendale is a greedy money spinner, not a serious eating establishment. We paid £90 for 6 people to have a couple of drinks and some very sad looking breakfasts. To rave about the quality of the produce and suppliers in your farm shop, and then serve sub par food at a premium next door is shameful and daylight robbery. Bread looked like it was out of a supermarket loaf, the butter was rock hard in packets, beans were hard, you’d never believe the meat was something that would be supplied in the butchers… I could go on!
Do not be fooled. This is a place for kids to run around, a playpark with a nice farm shop to pick up some novelty bits, not somewhere to eat a good meal. The prices are INSANELY high on even the cakes, almost a fiver for a tiny slice, and don’t look a patch on other local independent businesses in Exeter. I’ve had a better breakfast in a roadside cafe. No effort, no care and no pride. A really terrible shame
Greendale fish and chip gone down hill…
Greendale fish and chip gone down hill and fish shrunk by half the size and dry ordered two kids fish and chips then a larger fish and chips to share with the wife as we alway have the large fish was no difference from the kids fish so wife took it back to be told that this is the the large fish as we thought that they had given us a kids fish and chip he then said you need more chip and said is that ok? my wife replied it has to be doesn’t it. If you are buying a large fish and chip at £11.00 don’t buy a kids fish and chip at £6.35 and you will have the same with money left in your pockets we as a family will not be returning for fish and chips again gone down hill they must be making a killing cutting the fish in half the putting the price up too
Never again ,
Never again ,

The customer service is awful .

Delicious Fresh Seafood!!
Just received some VERY fresh seafood. I'm really impressed with the quality of the food and the speedy time it took to be delivered.
This is my first time ordering and I will definitely be back to order more. 😃
Afternoon tea
Nice afternoon tea , however you could order what cakes you like as we did & they just gave us what they thought waiter did say person behind cake stand likes to choose for you however we are paying for them at £4.25 each .we ordered coffee & on way out they had a lot of coffee ones there , think this is very poor , as we were given marzipan that I can’t stand , won’t be doing that again, will be doing afternoon tea else where .
Items missing, no refund and not uk produce
We ordered fresh vegetables, fruit and salad to be delivered. We checked the provenance of each item when ordering. The lettuce arrived pre-packed in plastic from Spain when the provenance online said UK. We ordered and paid for Isle of Wight heritage tomatoes and ended up with 1 heritage tomato that was blistered and powdery and 4 beef tomatoes that were certainly not Isle of Wight or heritage. The raspberries didn’t even last a day having arrived soft and past it. On top of that we were missing 3 items, 2 were listed as “refunded out of stock” and one just wasn’t packed. We’ve never received any refund for the items they didn’t supply. £90 not well spent.
I have to say Greendale looked too good…
I have to say Greendale looked too good to be true on the website and reviews around the web. I wanted a proper farm and farmshop with products that had great provenance. I searched all over the web and settled on Greendale. I ordered the carvery rib of beef, both pigs in blankets, bacon and sausages for Christmas day. I then noticed my main item, might be substituted. I emailed customer services to say that I really needed the beef as it was for Christmas. I quickly received reassurance from them that they had spoken to the butchers and the beef would definitely be there. I received notification the day before delivery and then the delivery arrived on time, left in a safe space as requested. The packaging was sturdy with lots of cool packs, everything perfect.
As for the food itself, it was all amazing. The rib of beef had all the provenance on the packaging and cooked a treat. As for the taste, it was absolutely delicious, so much excellent meat that lasted for days. All the extras were perfect too. The Greendale products really elevated our Christmas day. The value for money was exceptional. Worth every single penny. I will be ordering again and not just for Christmas. What a place, what a find! Thank you, Greendale and keep up the good work!
Poor food and service.
We were a party of 11. It took ages for the food to be delivered but it was busy because it was New Year’s Eve so we made allowances for that, however, when the food arrived they had forgotten to give 3 of us our meals. We waited an age for them to bring the missing meals out, everyone in our party had finished their meal by the time the missing 3 meals arrived. The late meals were awful, dry chips which were luke warm, overdone fish and overcooked eggs. They removed the price of 3 drinks as a good will gesture (coke, coffee and squash) but the experience spoiled what was meant to be a new years celebratory meal with the family. I wouldn’t recommend Greendale to anyone. They are overpriced, serve poor food and provide poor service. We won’t return
Three bird roast it’s the way forward.
Everything about this company is Excellent from the ordering to receiving. And cooking the food.
We had a three bird roast for the fourth year on a run. It was amazing value for money. . And extremely tasty.
Disappointing product and service
Ordered a medium Lobster Thermidor advertised as "Lobster Weight 650-850g". What arrived was a small lobster with a dressed weight of less than 420g (including packaging). If the final prepared weight is potentially 50% less than the raw product it should say so on the website so that customers can order a larger item if required. A call to Customer Service resulted in an unheplful fishmonger informinng me that the weight was correct and then (rather patronisingly) telling me it is what it is. I appreciate Christmas is a busy time for suppliers, but it is also a time when customers will remember the experience they receive. Based on MY experience, I'd be inclined to steer well clear if this is indicative of their normal service.
Awful fish and chips.!
Awful fish and chips.!! Grease laden fish, dry chips. Won’t be buying again.!
This is the 2nd time I’ve bought fish…
This is the 2nd time I’ve bought fish & chips at Greendale the first was horrible batter thick and spongy yellow inside fish dry and batter dark thick and greasy and the fish was not even fresh ! Gave it another try this evening exactly the same utterly horrible wish I’d have donated 31.50 to charity at least someone would have benefited! Give it a miss !
Not the best today …
Have been here a few times to shop but never eat. Sadly todays experience was not good. Ordered 2 baguettes with chips. I ordered mine with no onions which came in the burger. I asked for no onions and still got them put on top of my salad so couldn’t eat any of it, and both mine and my husbands chips were Luke warm We had been warned they were short staffed today but that’s no excuse for either of the two issues. Very disappointed
Want a quiet coffee? Forget this place!!!!I have no complaint about the breakfast…
I have no complaint about the breakfast items or coffee we recieved but if you want a nice chat with friends, forget it!!! It was SO noisy in the restaurant..tables of mums with babies and toddlers screaming and screeching, we couldn't hear ourselves talk! Now I don't object to kids in restaurants but Greendale has an indoor play area where parents with kids could easily be seated together rather than in the main restaurant area...customers came in and walked out due to the noise! We mentioned to one of the managers about the idea of seating parents in the play area. So if you go during holidays and want a quiet coffee FORGET THIS PLACE!
Service excellent
Service excellent, with particular mention of the butcher who was fantastic. He went out of his way to provide an excellent service.
Best fresh crab in the UK
I absolutely love fresh crab and prefer to order whole crab and pick them myself. I have ordered crab from online fishmongers all over England and Scotland and had many disappointments. Greendale crab is the freshest and most delicious by far. Now I never buy my crab anywhere else.
There have been a couple of hiccoughs over delivery but this has always been sorted immediately by customer service - in one case with a member of staff doing a 50 mile round trip to deliver my order!
Many thanks to the seafood team at Greendale.
