They operate like a scam—quoting very low prices and then forcing customers to purchase their insurance, even when the renter already has valid coverage. Although my insurance covered the required amount, it wasn’t on their approved list, so they insisted I buy their insurance at an exorbitant price. Even their cars are old. Please avoid this company and choose a reputable provider instead, even if the rental cost is higher.

I had a reputed coverage and proof while checking the car out. But your agent was not interested to reviewing it.

There were other customers with similar frustration at the counter (so this is not a new issue). Moreover, 2000$ hold is something I never heard of. Not every customer will have a a limit for you to hold 2000$.

Yes, they do take advantage, people please be aware before you make a booking here.

Agent deceived me saying I needed more…

Agent deceived me saying I needed more insurance and she would not take no for an answer. I initialed and now my credit card or the Florida BBB won’t do crap about it. They also tried to say we scratched a hubcap. Very dishonest and deceitful. Let’s put them out of business to save headaches for anyone else.

The worst car rental experience

The worst car rental experience — borderline scam.
If you live in the USA or Canada, be extremely careful booking with this company (especially through third-party sites). They do NOT clearly disclose that you cannot decline their insurance, unless you are arriving from another country. This is NOT mentioned during booking and only revealed at the counter, forcing you to pay hundreds more.
This location was the Fort Lauderdale branch, and the problems didn’t stop there:
The car was not washed, and I had to wait even longer.
The car smelled bad.
The bumper was glued on, which is unacceptable.
I had to record multiple videos before leaving because I didn’t trust they wouldn’t try to blame me for existing damage upon return.
Overall, this company uses misleading practices and pressures customers into unnecessary insurance. Save yourself the stress and money—rent from a major, reputable car rental company where you can decline insurance if you already have coverage.
I would never rent here again.

I booked a car online thru Expedia

I booked a car online thru Expedia. Due to the high demand, Expedia sent me to Green Motion rental. As soon as I walked inside the rental place there were customers complaining and arguing with the clerck at the desk. They wanted me to pay 2,000 dollars security deposit even if my insurance was from their approved list of car insurance. The clerck was rude and did not speak good english. I decided to cancel the rental due to the insurance scam just to find out that Expedia will not reimburse my money!!!
STAY AWAY FROM THIS CLOWNS!!!

FRAUDULENT BUSINESS PRACTICES

SCAM ALERT! This company is a full fledge scam. They internally cancel reservations at no fault of the customer then tell you to do a same day rebook at a mark up of 500% - 800%higher than what you originally booked the car for online in advance. They also overbook cars to customers with no regard. They charge a $2,000 deposit if you don’t agree to buy their insurance coverage, even if you present verified USAA full coverage of $300K that covers you in rental cars. Don’t bother calling their customer service number. They don’t speak English and don’t care about poor service. They are all in cahoots. Also won’t transfer you to a manager. DO NOT BUY FROM THEM. ALL OF THEM ARE SCAMMERS. This company should be investigated by state/federal government for fraudulent business practices.

I would leave 0 stars if that were an option

Booked a rental car with Green Motion. Watched the two customers in line before me get subjected to the Green Motion representative attempt to charge for overpriced insurance and a toll device. In one case the customer rejected the offer the other customer protested but paid the price.

In my case I had the required insurance from State Farm. The representative pretended he could not receive my email after repeated attempts. It was clear he had no intention of renting to me unless I purchased their over priced insurance. I chose to Uber to another provider.

There should be a way to regulate/police unscrupulous businesses of this nature. Until then vote with your dollars and boycott Green Motion.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!! These are the biggest clowns I have ever had the misfortune of dealing with when it comes to rental car companies. When I walked into their (offsite) location, there was already one upset customer in line and soon after, the person in front of me was set off by the counter clerk in frustration. When I was told that my credit card would not be accepted, only to offer another that they again, declined to take, I called Priceline to see if they could do anything. Priceline then tried to resolve the issue and the people (right there in front of me - walking around aimlessly, stairing at their mobile phones) did not answer the call from priceline. TOTAL WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY! I got a refund and WILL NEVER MAKE THE TERRIBLE MISTAKE of reserving a car from these TOTAL CLOWNS again.

Still Ignored After Weeks – Terrible Customer Care

I filed official complaints with the BBB (#24007989) and FDACS (#2510-04007) after being forced to buy $160 insurance, receiving a car with a dead key fob that locked itself, and being treated rudely by staff at return.
Corporate acknowledged my case twice (Oct 13 & Nov 4) but never followed up, reimbursed me, or corrected the issue. Even state regulators haven’t been able to get a response from them.
If you value honesty, accountability, or even basic professionalism, avoid Green Motion Tampa. There are plenty of rental companies in Florida that actually support their customers.

AVOID this place.

Booked a vacation package through Priceline(flight and car). Fort Lauderdale Florida. We waited for the shuttle for 30 min. ( note: this lot is not in the airport) It was a bit of a wait to get to the counter. Once there we were told we needed to put down a deposit of 2000.00 on our credit card. We also declined their insurance as we had our own. Of course they had a list of the only car insurance companies they approved. We walked out. Called Priceline and made other arrangements. At this time it wasn’t only us that had the same issue another couple walked out and made other arrangements. Avoid this place like the plague. It’s a scam company

This was the worst car rental…

This was the worst car rental experience I’ve ever had. Green Motion/USave arethe same company — and both are a nightmare to deal with. I booked the car for 4 days from Los Angeles Airport (Lax).

To start, their location is not very close to the airport. You have to take two separate shuttles to get there! We waited over 40 minutes just for the shuttles, and then another hour just to get our car once we finally arrived.

The worst part was their insurance scam. They refused to accept my valid insurance through my personal car insurance and my credit card — both of which fully cover rental cars. They insisted I buy their overpriced insurance at more than $50 per day, or they wouldn’t give me the car! I already paid for the car and had no choice to get the insurance!
They are so many other charges on my bill that Ive never heard from other rental car companies : concession fee, facility fee recovery, tourism fee, vehicle license fee, and local!!! They are not substantial range from $5 to $15 each, but it ads up!!!
The whole setup felt intentionally confusing and designed to upsell. The staff was unhelpful, and kept saying that there is nothing they can do!!!
Avoid this company at all costs. If you’re renting a car at LAX, go with a reputable, well-known company. It’s not worth the stress, wasted time, and unexpected fees.

Green Motion / U-Save at LAX

If you value your time, stress-free travel, and good customer service, avoid Green Motion / U-Save at LAX. To reach their location, you need both a bus and a shuttle, which takes around 30 minutes. The rental lot is in an industrial area, difficult to access, and the wait times are excessively long.
The paperwork process is entirely manual, and staff push insurance sales aggressively. If you plan to use your own coverage, make sure to bring proof of full insurance to avoid an extra $27/day charge. Customer service is well below acceptable standards.
Returning the car was equally frustrating: we waited while an employee finished chatting and smoking, even as the shuttle back to the airport was leaving.
If you return car after 7pm, you can't catch a shuttle, you will need to take Uber or taxi.
Overall, this location suffers from hidden fees, misleading deposit requirements, long wait times, and poor customer service. Any potential savings are not worth the hassle.

Don't rent any car from them

Don't rent any car from them. The service is very bad. My wife and I rented a car in toronto airport. Since the flight is delayed and they already close when we landed. I call them next morning immediately and I agree to pay 1-day rental cost, but they take all money. Very bad.

Stay away

I rented a car from this company with everything paid, insurance and rental fee. However, I still had to pay over $500 for insurance they said I needed. I was supplied a GPS that did not work for this vehicle. How can one get around another country without a working GPS. I emailed this company about my concerns without any answer. I stated I wanted to return the car as I was using Uber anyway. I returned the car early as it was no use to me without a GPS for which I paid for. They refused to give me any refund. I emailed them again and still not response. ( I am guessing they cannot handle al the complaints) I travel often and this was my worse experience of my life with a car rental company.

I received your unhelpful response. Your answer still did not address the following, that you gave me a non working GPS, I returned the car early due to poor service, I paid for a trip to Spain,(which your company requires even though I paid for the rental car) which I could not take without a GPS, answering my emails stating my concerns the 2nd day of renting the car which stated, I wanted to return the car because of all the issues. Now I would say, STAY FAR FAR far far far and use a company that does not have all these complaints. I am 67 years old and I have traveled the world and I have never seen a business run like this. Stay far away.

I will not answer any more as I already provided documents that showed my side but nothing was done.

Hidden fees, unreasonable rental

This car rental was one of the worst ever, and Expedia should not list it as an option to choose from. We booked the car few months before for a certain rate for 7 days and when we arrived, they wanted to take additional $45 per day for the insurance. Even though we had our own insurance, they did not accept it because our coverage was 1/3 of a price less than what they demanded. They basically catch you on that. We have never experienced such racket before, and we rent 3-4 cars a year. Their staff was extremely cold and robotic, with an “take it, or leave it” attitude “I don’t give a …”. While we were there, 5 other customers left and cancelled their deal. No one wanted to get their vehicle under these circumstances.

worst experience

I rarely write reviews, but I feel I have to share my terrible experience at Green Motion Miami today so that others can be aware of what they might face.
When I arrived to pick up my rental, I explained to the representative, Edwin, that I had already purchased full coverage protection for my rental through a third party, in addition to the coverage I already have. Instead of listening to me and handling the situation professionally, Edwin immediately became rude, dismissive, and unprofessional.
Edwin kept interrupting me, not allowing me to finish a single sentence.
His tone was mean, condescending, and completely lacking in basic customer service skills.
At one point, when I tried to explain my situation, Edwin actually said, “You don’t understand,” which was not only disrespectful but also unnecessary since I was only asking for clarification.
I asked to speak with a supervisor, and Edwin flat-out told me that he was the supervisor, which left me with no option to escalate my complaint.
To make things worse, the email confirmation I received clearly showed a $1,000 deposit, yet Edwin demanded a $2,000 deposit on the spot. When I questioned the discrepancy, he continued to cut me off and even made mean comments that had nothing to do with the situation.
I have rented cars many times before and have never been treated this badly by anyone in customer service. Edwin’s disrespect, lack of professionalism, and dishonesty about deposit requirements left me extremely frustrated.
This was by far the worst rental car experience I’ve ever had, and it has completely turned me away from using Green Motion in the future. If this is how their “supervisors” treat paying customers, I can only imagine how they handle other situations.
I strongly urge anyone considering renting from Green Motion Miami to think twice. There are plenty of other rental companies in Miami that value their customers, treat them with respect, and honor their agreements. Unfortunately, Green Motion Miami has shown me they do not.

In over 30 years of renting hundreds of…

In over 30 years of renting hundreds of vehicles I've never once had an issue with fraudulent or predatory practices from a rental agency until renting from Green Motion at FCO airport in Rome. After presenting to us a very dirty car (inside and out) that was heavily damaged with major dents, scratches, etc. we took delivery of the rental as we were told there were no other cars available. We returned the car in the EXACT same condition, documenting with before and after videos. Green Motion then sent me an invoice 2 days later for over 1300 Euros for a blemish they found on the windshield no larger than a pin prick, a couple of paint scuffs as small as a ballpoint pen on an interior door edge (that you need an extreme close up to even recognize, and a very small scrape under the bumper on the bottom side of the car. We did not cause these damages but they are also beyond ridiculous to point them out on a car with MAJOR damage when we picked it up. Shame on Green Motion and I will pursue legal action as necessary. They are still holding my deposit in addition to charging my card. I'm in disbelief this company behaves this badly in hopes they can continue to get away with it.

AVOID THIS SCAM! Bait and Switch at its Finest!

I booked a car with Green Motion through a third-party app, attracted by what seemed like a great rate. I then spent $80 on an Uber to get to their location, only to be hit with a classic bait-and-switch scam.
At the front desk, I was told the initial rate was only the beginning. They demanded an additional $60 a day for their insurance, $20 a day for tolls, and a ridiculous $2,000 security deposit.
When I tried to use my personal State Farm insurance, which includes full rental coverage, the front desk agent refused. He claimed that under Florida law, it is mandatory for Florida residents to purchase a separate policy with at least $300,000 in coverage! A completely false and unbelievable assertion. After being told I couldn't use my own valid insurance, I realized I was dealing with a company that operates on misleading and dishonest tactics.
I was forced to walk out without a car and spend another $80 on an Uber. Save yourself the time and money. This company is not legitimate. A total scam!

I would give a -5 if I could.

I had reserved a standard sedan in Tampa. I had a flight delay and called the company to advise of a delay. The woman on the phone didn't identify herself, nor did she ask my name. I was told not to worry, the sedan would available.
Upon landing, I called the agency, was given better directions to the area to catch a shuttle. I was there for 30 minutes and called. They said they run every 10 minutes. After 10 more minutes, the shuttle arrived.
When I arrived to pick up my car, and began the process, I was told that I didn't have the right amount of bodily injury coverage for Priceline, $300,000. I carry more that what Florida's basic requirement is("It's in the fine print", he said) I was then charged an additional $215 for their insurance. I was also give a compact car instead of the sedan I reserved. I asked " So you're charging me for a full size car and giving me a compact at the full size rate?" He said "Yep, pretty much."
When I left the location, I called Priceline about the requirements. The have no minimum requirement for insurance. They only require the coverage of
Comp and Collision.
I am highly upset that this is what I, as a customer, had to go thru. I know the customer is not always right, but we are customers. I would give them a negative 5 if I could.

Auto Insurance Requirements
Customers intending to self-insure our vehicles are required to produce sufficient proof of auto insurance, to include comprehensive and collision deductibles.
If opting to self-insure, you must carry a full coverage policy, to include both physical damage and liability.
Not all insurance companies are accepted – please contact reservations@greenmotion.com in advance to enquire if your policy / coverage will be accepted.
If opting to utilise credit card CDW, please note liability is not covered by credit cards, and the guest must purchase 3rd party liability coverage from the rental counter.
Insurance verification must be presented in the form of documentation (declaration page of policy), email or via the insurance company’s mobile application only.
If proof of insurance cannot be provided, clients will be able to purchase insurance at the counter.
Customers who intend to use third party insurance will be required to have a minimum of 2,000 USD for the deposit.

If you do not meet these requirements or wish to lower your deposit, you will be offered an excess reduction waiver at the rental desk.

Avoid Green Motion – Dishonest Charges and Zero Customer Support

I rented from Green Motion at Rome Fiumicino (FCO) in June 2025 and had one of the worst car rental experiences of my life.

Due to a Lufthansa flight delay (completely outside my control), I arrived 10 minutes after their posted closing time. I had called ahead to inform them, yet I was treated rudely by staff and still forced to pay an outrageous €122 “after-hours” fee, even though the employee was still present.

On top of that, they wrongly charged me an “additional driver” fee for my wife, even though their own advertising clearly states that a spouse is included under their family offering.

I filed multiple complaints with the Fiumicino location and later escalated to Green Motion’s UK corporate office. Both completely ignored me — no replies, no resolution, no accountability.

This company survives on hidden fees, unfair charges, and non-existent customer service. I strongly advise anyone considering Green Motion to avoid them and book with a more reputable rental agency, even if it costs a little more upfront. In the long run, Green Motion will cost you far more in stress, time, and money.
