I’m extremely disappointed with my experience with HCA Healthcare, particularly the communication and administration surrounding my colonoscopy.

To be clear, the consultant who carried out my procedure was excellent. However, my concerns are with the hospital and the way the booking, payment, preparation and communication were handled, nothing to do with the consultant.

There were repeated problems with communication. I was given an initial price of £1,700 (told that was the complete cost), but it was not made clear to me that the consultant’s fee was separate, meaning the actual cost was around £3,400. When I was then told by hospital staff that payment could be split, I understood that I would be able to pay in instalments which made it more feasible. I was subsequently told later that, because I was classified as an inpatient rather than an outpatient, the full amount had to be paid upfront. This was particularly frustrating given the conflicting information I had already been given. It's like the call centre team doesn't have any knowledge of what happens or able to give correct information. I was told it would be looked into and management would review the calls. If there was an error on their part they would potentially honour that. Supervisor then tried to ignore responsibility repeatedly.

The communication from the preparation team was also very poor. They did not appear to know whether I had received my bowel preparation kit, I hadn’t. I had to chase this repeatedly by email and phone, and eventually received the kit only two days before the procedure, in the evening. I had no other communication in-between that time and booking.

Trying to contact the hospital was another major issue. On one occasion I repeatedly called from when they opened and could not get through for over two and a half hours to the prep team.

Overall, I found the experience unnecessarily stressful and felt that I was repeatedly passed between different people without anyone taking proper ownership of the situation. For a private hospital charging a significant amount of money, I expected much better communication, organisation and accountability.

Again, the consultant himself was excellent, and I want to distinguish his care from my experience with the hospital. Unfortunately, the administration and communication surrounding the procedure were extremely disappointing.

I would not recommend using HCA at all.

The high standard of care from my consultant to the whole medical, nursing and other staff. I felt I was on holiday not worrying about my treatment and its side effects as it was taken care of in the most professional and excellent way. I consider this to be an important important reason for recovery from my illness. My treatment in accordance with the plan drawn out by my world class consultant.

Was chased for months by a credit collection company employed by HCA to personally pay a debt for treatment that should have been covered by BUPA. The treatment took place 01.2024, the invoice was sent to me (not BUPA) in 08.2025. After several months of receiving demanding texts, letters and emails from ACT credit agency, HCA conceded the fault was theirs and apologised 'for a billing error that occurred on your account. Unfortunately, due to a system issue, our processes did not identify that the billing window had already lapsed, which resulted in correspondence being issued in error.'

Excellent doctors! The staff was also really helpful from entrance to reception.

Makes you feel at home when at your most vulnerable state.

Everything and everybody - lovely big clean room with a balcony, staff kind and helpful even from just walking n the door. On the ward, the same lovely staff - nothing too much trouble (I do get very nervous - so all the little things and kindness make a difference. My Consultant is great and the theatre staff were all lovely. I have no hesitation in ever having to go to the Wellington again.

Overall, I have had a very positive experience with The Portland Hospital. Dr Datta has been excellent, professional, caring and very reassuring throughout my care. Vanessa was also wonderful from beginning to end.

The only area that could be improved is the administrative.

Excellent medical care overall, with some room for improvement on the administrative side.

From the moment I arrived, the hospital was exceptionally clean, well organised, and welcoming. The staff were friendly, professional, and genuinely caring throughout my visit, making what can often be a stressful experience feel comfortable and reassuring.

I would particularly like to recognise Dr Leon Creaney, who was outstanding. He took the time to listen, explained everything clearly, and demonstrated a genuine commitment to patient care. His professionalism, expertise, and approachable manner immediately put me at ease and gave me great confidence in the treatment and advice provided.

Dr Creaney is a real credit to the hospital and an excellent example of the high standard of care provided by the team. Please pass on my thanks and appreciation to him and all the staff involved.

My husband and I were very impressed by the cleanliness of the hospital and how helpful everyone was as soon as we arrived. The attention we received was amazing.

From the start to the finish of appointment, there is care,respect, dignity throughout, totally stress free day

The administration in advance of my visit went very smoothly, as did the visit itself.

The areas I attended were clean and tidy and relatively quiet all round, with very good lifts to get there in the first place.

My consultant was, however, the icing on the cake - a very relaxed and helpful set of discussions eventuated on this (first) appointment

My experience at HCA was wonderful. I was very impressed by the friendly staff. The radiologist was also extremely helpful and reassuring, making sure I was guided throughout the procedure. I truly appreciate the care and professionalism shown by everyone.

I was given great care and respect in HCA healthcare. I forgot I was admitted to critical care and felt like I was in a 5* hotel room with room service on standby waiting to provide the best care.

I attended The Harley Street Clinic, following some episodes of Chest Pains.
I was blown away by the care and attention I received, in a very short space of time.
