Brand-new laptop lost after being handed in for repair – extremely disappointing management and customer service

I am sharing my experience with iCrack Chiswick because I want other customers to understand what I have been dealing with before trusting this company with an expensive electronic device.

I handed over my brand-new HP EliteBook 840 G10, with 1TB storage, to iCrack Chiswick for a BitLocker issue. This was a high-configuration laptop intended as a gift for my cousin. I had taken care of it because it was brand new, and the staff member who dealt with me, that I did not want the laptop opened or its screws removed, as I did not want any scratches or damage. I also handed over the original HP protective sleeve so the laptop could be kept safe.
After I was away for around three weeks, I was informed that the shop had been robbed/broken into and that my laptop had been lost or stolen during the incident. I understand that a robbery is an unexpected event, but I believe a company should have a clear process for dealing with a customer’s property when something like this happens. What followed has been the most disappointing part of my experience.

Since finding out what happened, I have repeatedly contacted the company by phone, email and WhatsApp, I have kept my WhatsApp history and other communications, and I have visited the shop multiple times to try to resolve the issue in person. I have explained the situation again and again, waited for promised updates, and been given dates that have passed without a satisfactory resolution.

This has not been a case of me contacting the company once and expecting an immediate answer. I have given them opportunities to resolve it and have tried to be patient. Yet I have spent an unreasonable amount of time chasing updates about a laptop that I handed over in good faith for repair.
I want to make one thing clear, my complaint is mainly about the iCrack Owners/management’s handling of this matter, not about blaming the shop staff personally, Ankush has discussed possible solutions with me and has explained that he has been communicating with the relevant team to get the issue resolved. From what I have been told during my visits, the staff have been trying to obtain a decision, but a clear resolution has not followed. As a customer, I should not have to keep visiting the shop and contacting different people because the management cannot provide a timely decision.

At one point, an HP EliteBook 830 G11 with 512GB storage was discussed as a replacement. The listing was on eBay for 512gb instead of 1tb and I was not comfortable accepting it because it appeared to have been previously used with scratches or opened and they told me they will replace the ssd from 512 to 1tb by opening the laptop and upgrade it. I had handed over a brand-new HP EliteBook 840 G10 with 1TB storage, so I requested them to consider that offer a suitable like-for-like replacement. I had also specifically explained from the beginning that I did not want my laptop opened or used because my laptop was brand new.

I also offered a £1,000 cash settlement as a practical alternative to help bring this matter to an end. Despite the time and effort I have put into finding a solution, the issue remained unresolved.

The stress, anxiety and frustration this situation has caused me have been considerable. It is not just about the financial value of the laptop. It is the uncertainty, the repeated chasing, the wasted time and the feeling that I am being left to deal with a problem that I did not cause. I genuinely hope nobody else has to go through the same experience.

My advice is to think carefully before leaving an expensive laptop or phone with a private repair company. After this experience, I would personally prefer to contact the manufacturer’s official service centre or an authorised service provider, even if the price is slightly higher. If you own a Samsung phone, an Apple device or an expensive laptop, check the manufacturer’s official repair options and ask what happens if a device is lost or damaged while in their care. Do not assume that any provider will automatically compensate you, check the terms before handing over your device.

I am not saying that every independent repair company operates this way. I am sharing what has happened to me at iCrack Chiswick, and my experience has seriously affected my confidence in the company. Customers trust repair businesses with expensive personal property, and they deserve clear communication, responsible management and a proper resolution when things go wrong.

I hope the management finally takes ownership of this issue and I cannot recommend iCrack Chiswick based on my experience.

Purchased a second hand iPhone from iCrack this summer. After a week it developed a fault with the speaker. I took it back and they fixed the fault without question within half an hour. Sadly it went wrong again producing the same fault. Again they replaced various parts. This happened a further two times. Each time I went into the store I was greeted with friendliness and genuine concern, the gentleman serving us was nothing but totally helpful. Four times I moaned and four times they fixed it, even offered to replace it. I was impatient and didn't want the hassle of swapping all my data to yet another phone. So they fixed it again. The last time they took the whole phone to pieces supplied a new body and parts with nothing but smiles and apologies. What a bunch of nice guys. With all the bad press about phone and vape stores this stands up as a beacon of respectability and reiability. Go see these guys they are straight up the nicest phone sales people I have met and I have met a few! You will not be disappointed! If I knew their names I would give them a check but I don’t. But just go in and bask in their hospitality! I live almost 100 miles from the store (phone purchased by my son in Bath as a present) but I would definitely drive back to get the service!

4 batteries varta 6,90 euro! Far the most expensive place ever...

Do not buy a Mozillion e-Sim from this store!
I bought an e-Sim from the Ipswich iCrack store, which I needed for one month, and have spent 3 months trying to cancel it. Mozillion do not respond, and iCrack say it is not their problem. One of their managers was supposed to call me back one week ago but I am still waiting, and am already 45 pounds out of pocket. Feels very much like a scam!

Great customer service & a great price.
My husband’s phone was fixed within half an hour, with a screen protector provided with the service. Highly recommend. Thank you !

I crack shop in Dorchester are very helpful.Very skilled and are very good at sorting out issues with I phones.Would recommend to anyone to pay them a visit and they will fix it.

I completely smashed the front of my iPhone and initially took it to a local phone repair shop. Although they repaired the screen, several functions stopped working afterward. Unsatisfied with the result, I refused to accept the repair and took my phone to iCrack on Chiswick High Road instead.

Osman, who handled my repair, was professional, knowledgeable, and understood the urgency of my situation. He managed to fix everything that I had been told couldn't be repaired. To top it off, the total cost was actually lower than what the other, rather dodgy, repair shop had charged.

I highly recommend Osman at the Chiswick branch. He works every day except Monday and provides excellent service you can trust.

iCrack Southampton store: While visiting from the U.S. my Samsung phone screen was crushed and phone was inoperable. Have medical apps i require. Needed it fixed ASAP! They replaced screen in 90 minutes! Great guys. Friendly. Professional. Life savers. Highly recommend.

WARNING: THEY ARE IMPERSONATING ANOTHER BUSINESS. I strongly recommend avoiding this shop. And to ignore the unverified accounts posting good reviews.

I paid £245 for a Samsung S24 Ultra screen/frame replacement. Within around 7 weeks, the replacement screen failed progressively: dead pixels spread, a horizontal line appeared, the lower half flickered, and then the bottom half went black. Instead of honouring the warranty, the shop blamed “customer damage” without giving any written diagnosis, evidence, photos, or inspection report.

I asked them to put their refusal in writing. They refused. I sent a formal written complaint, which was read and ignored.

I then raised a Revolut chargeback. The dispute was successful and the full £245 was refunded.

What makes this worse is the branding issue. This Southampton shop appears to operate under the iCrack/iCrack Phone name, but when I contacted the official iCrack business, they replied confirming that they do not operate any store or franchise in Southampton. Customers deserve to know that before relying on the name/branding.

Based on my experience: poor warranty handling, unsupported blame placed on the customer, no written evidence, ignored complaint, and serious concerns about trading identity. I would not recommend them.

We are much older but intrepid travellers who had a problem with our phone. We went to icrack in Parikia and our problem was solved!! Extremely helpful and VERY expert. Wonderful service!

Cowboys AVOID AVOID AVOID

Needed a new phone case. The guy in store was very helpful and pleasant. I was able to choose the colour from selection on offer.

During the £275 cash transaction, we were initially underpaid by £100. When this was pointed out, the additional £100 was handed over.

Unfortunately, those notes turned out to be five counterfeit £20 notes. 💷❌

We returned to the shop the following day, and the notes were taken back immediately, without any questions about where they had come from.

Make of that what you will.

For anyone selling devices or handling cash transactions, it’s a good reminder to always check notes before leaving the premises.

All the serial numbers were all the same, and the lovely workers in Schuh pointed out these fakes and what else to look for, and they kindly checked over the exchanged notes for us.

Avoid iCrack Chelmsford.

Went to the Southampton store to get case and screen protector for my new phone. The lady was friendly, professional and helpful putting the screen protector on, and the £25 odd cost was reasonable.

A couple of days later I noticed an annoying air bubble under the screen protector. I took it back to the shop and they replaced it free of charge. So much better. Thank you ☺️🙏🏽🙏🏽

I took my wife’s phone in to Icrack for replacement screen and battery and was told it would be Apple replacement parts, the phone was always hot to hold after that, today I took it to a different shop and was told that the parts were not Apple but cheap replacements, I will not be going back to Icrack ever again

Took Samsung a05s for a screen replacement unfortunately two weeks later the speakers and microphone developed intermittent working then not.
Took phone back explaining problems that weren't there before screen replacement .
They replaced the screen again and said it was a faulty speaker...
We said leave it but I also watch how they glued the back on ..
They didn't remove old factory glue seal and used a generic superglue to glue it back together then stuck cellotape around it to help the 24 hour glue to set.
I would not recommend 😐 or go there again for anything...
