Jackson Hewitt Reviews

Although their site is somewhat easy to use, if there is any information from a previous year, you have to make sure you track it fully yourself, and don't rely on any help from their customer assistance. I had an issue accessing my depreciation schedule from the previous year. Customer service only ever said "look harder," which lead me to realize that not only was the information I needed inaccessible, but they told me to look at a specific form from my taxes that THEY DID NOT FILE. This means either they are deliberately telling me incorrect information to get me to stop asking for assistance OR they committed tax fraud on my behalf. Either way, they are not answering my questions any more.
The last person I tried to "chat" with disconnected the chat when I asked if they could access my file to see the previous emails or if I needed to go over it again.
If you run your own small business, STAY AWAY.

I first used Jackson Hewitt three years ago when my CPA retired. I was pleased with their service and pricing. Last year, I noticed a decline in the service provided but my taxes were prepared accurately and in a timely fashion. This year was a disaster! I was told that I owed $11,000 which was my estimate. When I went to the office it was $22,000. Totally WRONG !!!

Never again false advertisement and shit accountants. Go somewhere else

Jackson Hewitt in Dublin Va is the absolute best of the best! Very professional staff!! Robin always goes above and beyond!!

I needed a new CPA or tax filing resource to help me with my taxes this year as the CPA who did my returns last year is no longer in business. I was looking for alternatives and noticed that Jackson Hewitt would do it for only $149 for new customers. They have boldly announced "NO HIDDEN FEES". I was skeptical about the pricing but they assured me that it is accurate. I submitted my paperwork in one of the stores, the next day I got a call that they would not honor the price and that I should go to another store. When I called the other store, they told me that they would not honor the price as it would mean giving me a discount of $550. When I went to collect my paperwork from the first store, she informed me the store in the local Walmart would honor the price. When I called this 3rd store, she agreed to do it for $149. After dropping off the paperwork, she called me to inform me that her boss declined to honor the price.

I strongly advise against using Jackson Hewitt for tax preparation. After seeing their $149 deal, I booked an appointment for peace of mind. I only needed to file a W-2, 1099s, and a 1098 mortgage interest form. The tax "pro" was friendly but made multiple errors, claiming I owed thousands more in taxes than I did. I was shocked when their service fee was $506, which is what a CPA would charge.

My return was rejected by the IRS because he entered the wrong last four digits of my Social Security number, which was on the W-2. When I requested a refund, I was told to wait for the owner to contact me, but I never heard back.

Now, I’m disputing the charge with my credit card company. I ended up filing online myself for free, and the IRS accepted it immediately.

I received a promotional email from Jackson Hewitt to get your taxes done for $150. I set up an appointment by clicking the link in the email. After a two-hour appointment, they told me their service will cost $744. When I brought up the promo email, they told me that's a corporate thing and they're a franchise. Afterward, I called corporate, and they told me I needed to speak to the franchise manager. When I called the franchise manager, she said that's a corporate promotion. This is fraudulent.

Side note: it's not like we got an incredible return and they charged a percentage. We actually owed money. As if taxes/tax season isn't hard enough, now you have a company taking advantage of people. This isn't fair.

Maryanne is great she knows what she’s doing and explains to you every detail. She is very welcoming as soon as you arriv.

Not good Overpriced Charge my 98 mom 241 dollars and girl had to ask helper numerous questions I’m getting them redone by CPA it’s worth it since only 1 person is one and they are never there Sorry guys and gals All I kept hearing standard deduction not even showing younwhatbtheybarevdoingbTurn the screen so we can see Not worth the money bin factvwhybnot donthebrightbtjingvand send me half back Ha like you ever will

Jackson Hewitt has good tax preparation advisors however they are charging way too much money for tax preparation. Why am I paying you $617 just to type in some information. It’s as if we’re asking them to do a whole lot as of next year I’m going to be starting to file my own taxes. I think it’s something that’s very much so doable rather than losing so much extra money in the beginning of the year.

I think they are cheaters. They promised me that I will receive my refund 2500 .
I received nothing

I have seen Jackson Hewitt for several years to file my taxes. This year I had a 3pm appointment and I was not seen until 4pm. When I was finally seen there was no apology for my wait and the tax preparer immediately launched into her ridiculous political ideology. I was there on time to get my taxes done,

If I could I could give the jackson hewitt in walmart on pepperell pkway 0 stars the lady there luis I had booked my husband a 5:00 appt to file his taxes and when he went in it was 4:30 so she would have time to do his taxes but she was snobby and had an attitude towards him saying he didnt have an appt when i had the conformation for the appt and that she was ready to leave.Jackson hewitt yall need to fire her. she works at the jackson hewitt on 2900 peperell pkwy opelika alabama

I have been with Jacksonhewitt for a years. I have never been given a discount or any deals. They charge $200 for simple W2 taxes that i can do on Turbo tax for free. I would not recommend them. Go somewhere ales or get their new comers deal and the year after go somewhere ales cuz they don't care about loyalty.

Made an appointment over the phone and was lured in on the premise of a promotion they currently run for $49 for tax filings. once i arrived there at the appointment i have asked numerous times both in the office and beforehand over the phone if as a first time customer with them i would be eligible for that promotion and he assured me over and over saying yes i am and that all i would have to pay is that $49. So i got to my appointment and the guy behind the desk seemed to have somewhat of a language barrier, every other question we asked him he either didn't seem to understand or just couldn't answer even basic tax questions so he wasn't even that knowledgeable. After sitting there for almost two and a half hours he then happily informed me my total would be $265. they lure you in on fake promises, have amateurs fill out the tax forms for you and will end up costing way more than promised. i could've done a much better and much faster job using services like turbotax and it would've ended up costing me nothing as a first time user or much less than the $265 i was asked to pay!
at the end of our visit he asked me if i wanted to apply for a no fee tax refund advance saying that i am eligible and could get at at no extra charge or cost and that there are no downsides to doing that, he basically persuaded us to do that, so i said yes for that tax refund advance. after i got home from the jackson hewitt office i got a message saying that i am not eligible for the tax advance refund and i will have to wait for the refund to be given through the state and federal instances.

on top of that, 2-3 weeks after filling my taxes i get a letter in the mail from Republic Bank stating that we applied for a no fee tax refund advance and after reviewing my information they inform me that they can not grant me that loan. A LOAN!!! the tax preparer at jackson hewitt never told us anything about that and the fact that it was a loan! because he put me up for that they appeared to do a hard pull on my credit score lowering my score dramatically for nothing!

jackson hewitt is one big scam and a big pile of dirt that will end up costing you way more both financially and mentally!

WOULD ABSOLUTELY NOT RECOMMEND JACKSON HEWITT TO ANYONE, ABSOLUTE WASTE OF TIME, MONEY AND ENERGY!!!!!

Jackson Hewitt deducted money without any explanation.
They charged me $484 as their service charge for my Robinhood shares, even though I made no profit from those shares. My husband and I filed a joint tax return at their Cayce, Columbia branch in February 2025. According to our W-2 statements, we were supposed to receive a $4,000 refund (federal and state combined), but Jackson Hewitt claimed we would only get $2,400. Meanwhile, my colleagues with similar tax situations received their full refund amounts as stated on their W-2s. When I contacted Jackson Hewitt, they had no explanation or justification. We both are an International student and our earning is very limited, the person took advantage of this. They scammed us.

I'm really disappointed by their lack of professionalism...
I had 3 interviews, only to hear that they are not qualified to do my taxes!!!! What good are they if they can't advise me on my taxes??? (Especially as my situation is not particularly complicated or exceptional...)
Couldn't they have told me from the start that they wouldn't help me?
Another negative point: the lack of transparency about their rates (the advisor refused to give me even an idea of the cost).

Was scammed and lied to by one of their so called tax experts. He messed up my taxes not once but twice. Hey charged me for things I didn’t even have done. He was extremely unprofessional. I have a whole list of things I noticed that weren’t right. Well, my return got rejected and I have tried contacting the company and no response and regard at all. It’s probably because they dont want to honor their policies… figures. Weren’t they supposed to be there to help people?

Samantha had wonderful customer service the moment on the phone and in person , She really put a smile on my face and was very helpful, And Donovan and Logan was very helpful and explain to me about my taxes , That why I been going here since 2011, Great service, and fast didn't have to wait long 😀.

My taxes are now done and I received my refund. However, I became aware that my preparer was most likely being "trained" by doing my taxes. They are complicated as I am self employed but that is not an acceptable method to use with your client without disclosure. There were typos and monatery mistakes. I did not receive my refund until I called about a credit that was missing and then had another appointment. resulting in receiving my refund. If I had not proofed my taxes, there would still be mistakes. This was truly unprofessional and uncalled for. I was also charged $125 - $225 more than my two previous accountants. I did receive an apology. I was later reading the Jackson Hewitt national website and they proclaim that they have a "Lifetime Accuracy Guarantee" and that if they Make a Mistake they will pay you!" ~ Try calling their number... there is No selection for anything even slightly related to this Lifetime Guarantee. It seems that since my tax return took over 3 hours of interaction with Jackson Hewitt that at least $100 back to me would be appropriate. UPDATE They are truly sloppy in their work - I just went to pay my first quarterly for 2025 and they had printed 2024 coupons for me for 2025, even after I had pointed out a typo in my address so they still reprinted the 2025 coupons with the wrong year! Never again!!
