Copthorne Tara, a dirty hotel that extorted an exorbitant fee from an elderly woman

My travel agent booked me into Copthorne Tara Hotel Kensington. Although the Reception area and restaurant were clean, neither my room nor the corridor outside were cleaned during my 5 night stay.

After three nights here I decided I needed more time in London. Many hotels were full and I am profoundly deaf and have difficulty using the phone, so decided to stay an extra 2 days at Copthorne Tara. Reception refused to take my booking and told me to do it online. All was well until I tried to pay and my card would not go through. I remembered I had put a block on it, but it took only moments to remove it. When I tried to pay a second time, the fee had risen to an exorbitant £350 per night, for a mediocre hotel that was very dirty.

Slough Copthorne hotel

Slough - checked in at 10.15 after navigating around the worlds tighest car park trying to park!

Slow check in despite being only person there - finall got up to 6th floor room to find the key didnt work - went back - asked if i had it by my phone - explained no just my hand as i havent even opened my bag yet - got another key

Finally walked in the room to be greeted by water coming from the light fitting heavily, soggy carpet - so back to reception

Stand like a lemon whilst the original guy hands me to another member of staff - who them tries to give my key to another customer as he doesnt have a clue who he is serving

Comes out with the key and says i come with you - a nice touch i thought NO!!!!!! he takes me back to the original room to show him - like Im lying - when he sees it he says it just where someone leaves the shower on above - RUBBISH!!!! water through an electric point is not good

Then takes me to the 1st floor to a new room - now gone 10.45 and i just want to go to my room - he asks if ok and i say if its dry ill take it

Enter room - tatty and in need of updated but dry - unpack bag and call room service to order food and drink - rang for over 10 minutes no answer

Call reception - ask why i cant get through to room service - say i want food and drink - told the bars closed - i know that now as it took so long to check in my plans to go to the bar where cancelled - ok fine if no food can i get a drink - he asks me to come and get it as if not he will have to charge me £5 for room service WTH!!!! when i only need room service because the bar is shut after my crap check in.

Duvet is as thin as paper - 1 pillow each in a double bed and no spares

Move to breakfast - greeted by a man who points and says second table round the corner - ever heard of take the customer to the table - especially when there is no queue and noone in the restaurant - food was ok but tables are bar tables and too low to each from
Apple juice is beyond sweet and undrinkable

would not stay again

Avoid!

Horrible experience at Millennium Gloucester Hotel;

> Room service: the costs differed on the menu to what we were charged.
> When I phoned to say there was no bottle opener for my coke I was told that I should come down to the lobby to open it myself (I was on the 6th floor with a child - and had paid the service charge for room service).
> I couldn’t find the switch for the strip lighting across the top of the head rest of the bed. It took 45 mins for someone to come up to the room. We got the light off, and my son and I tried to get to sleep, then we were woken up twice when 2 more people came to the room at different times asking about the light. No internal communication to say that the issue had been resolved.
> At midnight I realised there was the sound of running water somewhere in the room and I discovered there was water dripping from a spotlight in the ceiling. Again, I had to phone the lobby and three men came to the room and said it was "just" the air conditioning and that I should turn it off and it should stop dripping. They offered to bring me an extra towel to put on the floor to catch the drips. There was no offer to change room or anything by way of an apology. I was blown away by their dismissiveness of the situation - one where I would consider water running out of an electrical device being rather unsafe. It took an hour to stop dripping after turning off the AC. I had phoned back to ask for a room change but they said no.
> I had 2.5 hours sleep after that due to the extreme heat (this was during the heatwave).
> The next morning I spoke to the manager David Benza who told me to email him but has since ignored my two emails and two phone calls where I have left him messages.

A room at £147 would be considered a luxury stay in my books. If I had known about the ill repair of the room and the customer service before I had booked, there’s absolutely no way I would have stayed at this hotel. I suggest you avoid it.

Stayed at the Manchester hotel with my…

Stayed at the Manchester hotel with my partner, and everything was great. It is not exactly the Ritz, but perfect for what we needed.

We have stayed in several Millennium and Copthorne Hotels and the service here was the best.

Wonderful place to stay

Stayed here recently as part of a coach trip. Lovely, clean hotel and staff who were all very helpful and cheerful and accommodating, especially as I am vegan. Thanks particularly to Chelsea and Elizabeth for their care and attention 😊 My only suggestion would be to provide evening entertainment, otherwise, first class!

Most distressing experience. Avoid.

Stayed at Gloucester Road due to heatwave. 1 night and asked for a quiet room in advance. First room had to be changed due to noise. 2nd room was having a midnight party and after me knocking on their door asking to tone the noise down, i was being shouted at by a night manager trying to make his way into my room declaring his right to do so. I was called a bully and the whole behaviour was hulimiating and totally distressing. After speaking with their GM i was even more dissapointed - dismissed my health issues as result of a stressful night, did not seem interested one bit and generally just...well...more humiliation. Complaints procedure was not presented to me, it is a different story depending on whom one speaks to. As i am recovering from the miscarriage and the surgery i was not allowed any stress whatsoever and the hotel completely failed to exercise a basic duty of care. I am disgusted by the treatment and very unwell following my stay. Arrogant, dishonest and lacking any courtesy. Words fail me.

Dudley Copthorne Hotel

The hotel has a great location. Staff were all friendly and willing to help. Bev at breakfast in the restaurant was so friendly and helpful - great asset. Phyllis on Reception also was very professional and friendly. Only disappointing aspect was the sauna and steam rooms were out of action.

Copthorne Hotel, Newcastle

Stayed at the Copthorne Hotel, Newcastle in May 2022. Good views of the Tyne, pleasant rooms and spacious lobby. Of particular note is the warmth and hospitality of the staff who i found to be cheery and positive without exception. A strong team throughout with special mention to the Food and Beverage Team Chelsea, Paul and Elizabeth -Hospitality legends! Keep up the good work.

Newcastle quayside copthorne

I have been staying in the Newcastle Copthorne over the past year and found it to be good.

As long as the price is set at a reasonable rate I would recommend this hotel.

Rooms are good however bathrooms are poor and seriously require an upgrade. Very worn suites. Water pressure very strong so if you like a power shower you may like it here.

Rooms are nice and clean.

No room service which is a shame.

Good location and have car park.

Would recommend for either business or leisure although if you are wanting a plush bathroom, stay elsewhere

a long overdue review.

I've been stopping at the copthorne in dudley regular for a couple of years now although there has been a fair share of problems I'd like to bring praise to the staff. 2 in particular Trudy and Tom who both work in the bar area. fantastic people who can't do enough for you and no problem is too great. I just hope senior management will pass this review on to them so they know their efforts are not going unnoticed.

So I stayed in the copthorne hotel in Salford Manchester had some bad issus with my stay left a review and the response is poor in my eyes. Will show you for your selfs

Thank you for your feedback on your recent visit to Copthorne Manchester. I will be sharing your feedback with team as to improve our service and product. The letter on arrival explained about the room cleaning process and the reception desk is 24 hours to assist you plus provide additional supplies. We are sorry about the key issues you had, this can be impacted by your phone being placed by the key for periods of time and de-activating the magnetic strip.

We had a professional football team check in late due to them having a match locally the next day, we are sorry this impacted your stay. On our regular floor walks the night team never observed any fighting or arguments from them, and generally they were very well behaved as they were representing their club.

Thank you again for your feedback and hope to welcome you back soon.

Things were not even mention in my complain just because you did not here anything at the time you did your walks dose not mean it did not happen I was below it and it's ok to judge some by the way they look and till they see different shame lovey hotel 1st time as well

Unclean hotel , High covid risk

Stayed in the copthorne hotel in Cardiff , room 208 on 13th of jan 2022 By far the worst unclean hotel I have ever stayed in is a really high covid risk .mould in bathroom under , dust on everything never see a cloth is months , cracks in wall and lots more thing , stay clear and save your money . Wish I could post photos on here you really would be shocked.

Booked into Millennium Hotel in George…

Booked into Millennium Hotel in George Square, Glasgow for one night which wasn’t cheap. Hoping for a view of the Square with Christmas lights we ended up with a view of Queen Street Station car park. Black mould and peeling artex on bathroom ceiling. Safe and bathroom radiator didn’t work and general rooms condition to a very poor standard.
Menu non existent as were communications with the staff. We went to Premier Inn just up the road for breakfast and wished we had stayed there instead. Could not wait to check out, a real disappointment indeed.

Poor hotel, a really disappointment.

We have just spent two nights at the Copthorne Tara Hotel, Kensington. I have never stayed at such a poor hotel. The room was tired and a bit like a 1* B&B. The food was appalling, can not even call it average. Despite being assured before arriving about parking there were no parking spaces. I paid £58 to leave my car on a verge by a wall opposite a delivery bay. No one seems to care or take any pride in this hotel. Breakfast was a joke, no plates, no cups, no glasses, no hot water, no pastries, no bread, no tables: the staff were few and far between. We cleared our own table to sit down to a very poor breakfast. I wouldn’t pay £25 a night to return to this hotel let alone full price.

My company booked me a Superior double…

My company booked me a Superior double room, and my room was 1424 in the Millennium hotel. The room was a great size and a good and clean as was the bathroom. I just felt like the room was a bit drab and dated and didn't look like a 4-star hotel. The bed was very comfortable and the bedding was very nice a clean. The towels in the bathroom were very fresh and fluffy so no complaints there. The sockets in the wall have every point you'll need to charge your tech equipment, but I really think a USB point beside the bed is needed to charge your phone through the night and use it as an alarm. Now the not-so-good. they advertise as having complimentary wifi, yes it's free but it's only 5MB, you'll use that up booting up your laptop. Trying to get food at the hotel was a real problem for me. I arrived back at the hotel on a Friday evening around 18:00 and showered and went for food around 18:45. I went into the hotel and up to the bar and asked if I could get food, but was told the restaurant is closed and I would need to go down to the place outside, called Frankie's. I got into Frankie's and was given a menu, but unfortunately, the only food available was pizza fish and chips, and a burger, now I'm not a good snob but I would expect a better choice if they are connected to the hotel especially as the hotel restaurant is closed. Saturday night after work, around 17:10 I went straight to Frankie's without even showering to see if I was early enough to get food. I was told by a staff member that they had stopped serving food, but to try the hotel bar. Off I go to the hotel bar, hello can I order food I asked the barman? Sorry sir we don't have stopped serving now, I said but it says you are serving till 21:00, and as a hotel guest I think I'm entitled to get some food. He goes away and comes back a few minutes later and says I can have beef lasagna and that was fine. 15 minutes later this sorry excuse for a lasagna was pleased in front of me looking flat and we'll flat, nothing else except this small lasagna, no salad, chips, nothing. So this was my experience of the Copthorne Millennium hotel. I hope you have a better one, but I won't be recommending the hotel to my company as a place to stay.

Unhygienic check in making covid a bigger risk.

Considering we are in a covid outbreak, the check in at the Copthorn Cardiff j hotel was more unhygienic now than before covid was known. The information on arrival was poor.
We arrived and stood patiently in a queue of 4 couples. The people in front was holding some papers. When it was our turn to approach the desk, the receptionist told us we need to go to a table and fill in a paper form about our health before approaching the reception desk. Why isn't there a notice in reception on arrival rather than leaving us standing in a queue and waiting for us to get to the desk. Even worse why are we filling in paper forms when this could have been done electronically. We had to handle pens that were just crammed in a pot being handled by every other guest on arrival. The paper forms were being stapled by another receptionist before being put on this table, so more physical contact to contend with. When we pointed this out to the receptionist she got a bit snotty and said that's the best way to do it.
The hotel was very nice but the check in process and reception let's it down
